...really be used to make people healthy.” (DiCarlo, 1996, p. 1). Dossey’s discover of Era III involves consciousness which affects not only your body, but individuals miles away. This era is known as the mind-body-spirit model. Within Dossey’s research, he discovered the mind is different from the brain. When people die, their spirit lives on to assist in research to help with diseases. The difference in Era II and III is that era II has the basic power of prayer within the individual. Depending on your attitude being positive or negative is whether you will get a disease or how you will heal from a disease. The difference in being human in era III, power of prayer can heal others near or far and your spirit will live on after death. A 2. Models...

...Professional Presence and Influence Western Governors University Professional Presence and Influence A1. Models of Health and Healing- The candidate provides a logical discussion, with substantial detail, of the differences between 2 models of health and healing as they relate to what it means to be human. Since the mid-19th century, there have been three distinct models of health and healing. The first era began in the mid-1960s and dealt primarily with the physical body. It is known as the mechanical model and focused solely on the anatomy and physiology of the body. It was physical in nature, and gave no consideration to the mind or spiritual side of the human being. In this section we will compare the differences between Era II, the Body/Mind model, which emerged around the 1950s, and Era III, the Body/Mind/Spirit or Bio/Psycho/Social model which emerged in the 1990s. During the mid-20th century, Health care providers began to understand that human consciousness played an important role in overall wellness. They recognized that patients with a positive mental attitude about their condition and care generally healed faster than those who did not. Doctors and nurses started to value and encourage input from the patients in their care. Health care professionals began to notice that emotional well-being, personal belief system and attitude all had a definite impact on health and for the first time became important in treating disease. This new phenomenon was considered...

...Professional Presence & Influence Janene Mills Loga Western Governor's University Professional Presence and Influence C351 Professional Presence & Influence Introduction In these days of HCAHPS scores, and patient satisfaction being tied to reimbursement, it can be vitally important for the success of a healthcare facility, to have nurses who strive for quality relationships with their patients because this can influence the perception of the care received. A very important part of this is the professional presence the nurse conveys. A nurse’s professional presence is uniquely personalized; it is influenced by their own views on health and medicine, individual personality traits, how mindful they are in their practice, and in the type of healing environment in which they may be practicing. Professional Presence Models of Health and Healing Dr. Larry Dossey, MD describes his theory of Western Medicine as having three Eras’. (Dossey) Era One, which he states to have started in the 1860’s and continued to the 1940’s. Era Two, which he proposes to have begun in the post World War II period to recent times. Era Three is the most recent which he states is an emerging shift to a new focus which he calls “Transpersonal Medicine”. In Era One, Dr. Dossey describes the practice of medicine as being only physical in nature. He equates this era as focusing on the body and mind, and their functioning only in a physical way, not related to one another. He describes...

...Professional Presence and Influence Dina L. Bredeau, ARNP Western Governors University Society has progressed both socially and technologically as has medicine. This includes our understanding of health and healing as evidenced by Dossey’s three eras of medicine. Era 1, beginning in the 1800’s, reflected the prevailing view that health and illness are totally physical in nature and therapies included surgical procedures and drugs. Era 2, starting in the 1950’s, related to the mind and body. Practitioners began to realize that emotions and feelings can impact health. Era 3, still developing today, began in the 1990’s and builds on the previous eras by adding the spirit and proposes that consciousness is not confined to one’s individual body. The mind is boundless and may not only affect a person’s body, but the body of another person at a distance, even if that person is unaware (Dossey, n.d.) A. Professional Presence As the three eras of medicine have evolved over the years, it is apparent that they are intertwined, yet very different as evidenced by Era 1 and Era 3. Era 1’s main focus is on the body and addresses the health and healing of humans based on bodily functions and how they can be treated. Era 3 takes a more holistic approach by incorporating the body, mind and spirit. This includes Watson’s theory of human caring which discusses “human caring consciousness, administering ‘human care essentials’, which potentiate alignment of mind body spirit...

...been working for thirty plus years. It has been my experience that if you can really get through to the old timers, you have won half the battle trying to change the culture because they are the influencers. Do you think leadership develops with experience? Experience is the only way I have gotten better with anything I have done. To be more specific the more I failed, the better I got at what I had set my goal to. Are there one or two experiences you look back on as having been especially valuable in helping develop your won leadership? I can think of 10, 50, 100. None specifically, but more collectively have been valuable developing leadership. What’s common in all of these situations are that personalities were the driving force. If I could learn the personalities of the people in my team, I could use their strengths to overcome obstacles....

...Professional Presence and Influence - C351 Richard A Kurtz Western Governors University A1. Models of Health and Healing The Era I health model is a “beginner” health model if you will, that uses a mechanical approach to health care, with a vision of you fix this, you cure that type of image. There appears to be no ties to mind/spiritual type healing that is noted in Era II, where self-awareness seems to show its’ face in regards to health and healing. The image that comes to mind is one of hard, cold facts; where reality is what you have, and the affliction of your health is nothing more than that. There will be no prayer or positive thinking that will help the body to become healthy again, and any thoughts of despair or feelings of depression were independent of the physical illness or injuries that are being experienced. Health care is still at its roots, with curing of common infections decades away, and thought of an organized health care system beyond the imagination. In this second era, the relationship of the person/human element becomes evident, and the emotional, meaningful and conscious model that has become so clear today is taking its’ baby steps into existence. The change of thought process as well as considerations of feelings and emotions of the person come into view as an important part of the healing path, and new emphasis is incorporated into the vision of health care. Systematic health care is well on its way, evidence based practice is in use on...

For testing movement related function Box & Block Test, assess UE manual dexterity & gross motor coordination on affected wrist. Mental functions, global mental functions and sensory functions could be affected after mild concussion. Concussion is a physiological brain injury with physical, cognitive and emotional sequelae. Most patients recover within 2 weeks, but if not they may develop post-concussion syndrome (PCS). With PCS client will show impulsive behavior, confusions, memory problems, inappropriate behaviors (Leddy et al., 2016) and fatigue which will negatively impact his mental function. Client may demonstrate difficulties in the mental functions of sequencing complex movement, unable to perform sequences from memory, difficulties controlling emotion, affected temperament and personality such as unable to impulse control and self-control. With affected cognition, he will have compromised independence in health, safety and well-being. He might not recognize safety hazards, decreased confidence. ...10/04/2013 2. Acknowledgment First off, I would like to thank my professional tutor during my internship in the Disneyland Hotel Mr. Ruben Hilberink, who allowed me to use his research on performance quality management while he was in college which inspired me in finding the company problem statement of this paper. While his research focused more in the implementation of performance management in the workplace in general, he advised me that it could be a good subject concerning the hospitality industry, precisely at the level of the reception where the performance can be measured easily. Following his advice and being interested by the subject, I therefore decided to study more precisely this process and how it was implemented, rightly or not, in the Disneyland Hotel. Apart from this person, I would also like to thank my manager Mr. Oliver Drutschmann who hired me as a Team Leader intern and allowed me to work in this environment, involving me in several projects such as the transformation process of the majority our standard rooms in terrace rooms situated in the main floor of our hotel (in order to get a higher average price / room) or empowering me and other team leaders in taking operational decision related to management. I had also the opportunity to work with a wonderful team, always available if needed and I’m grateful to them as my time at the Disneyland Hotel was very positive in terms of personal and professional experience. 3.
