...Seminar report on Risk-return tradeoff Submitted by Pradip Routh Reg. no - 0906247013 Introduction :People have many motives for investing. For most investors, however, their interest in investment is largely pecuniary- to earn a return on their money. However, selecting stocks exclusively on the basis of maximization of return is not enough. To sat that investors like return and dislike risks is, however, simplistic. To facilitate our job for analyzing securities and portfolio within a return-risk context are, we must begin with a clear understanding of what risk and return are, what creates them, and how they should be measured. The ultimate decisions to be made in investment are (1 ) what securities should be held and (2) how much money should be allocated to each. These decisions are normally made in two steps. First estimates are prepared of the return and risk associated with available securities over a forward holding period. This step is known as security analysis. Second risk-return estimates must be compared in order to decide how to allocate available funds among these securities on a continuing basis. Security analysis is built around the idea that investors are concerned with two principle properties inherent in securities; the return that can be expected from holding a security, and the risk that the return that is achieved will be less than the return that was expected. The primary purpose herein is to focus upon return and risk and how...

...Muhammad Kamal bin Ismail MC244S5A 2013916883 1 CONCENTRATION OF OWNERSHIP AND CONGLOMERATION AFFECTING MEDIA PLURALISM AND MEDIA ECONOMCS IN MALAYSIA. Media ownership occurs mostly in developed countries around the world, whereby lesser individuals or organizations regulate the shares of the mass media (McEwan, 2007). The concentration of media ownership and conglomeration has said to alter the truthfulness of media delivering information to people. In the United States, there are eight major corporations that controls the broadcast and cable networks (Steiner, 2015). Among the corporations are News Corporation, The Walt Disney Company, National Amusements, Comcast, Time Warner, Discovery Communications, E. W. Scripps Company, and Cablevision. The scenario is criticized to affect media pluralism and media economics. In 2012, a global performance-management consulting company, Gallup, Inc. has conducted a poll on American trust in the mass media. The result shows that the American distrust in the mass media had increased, with 60% of the respondents saying “have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly” (Morales, 2012). According to Valcke, Sukosd, & Picard (2016), media pluralism is derived from the word ‘plural’, which defined as an unclear measurable concept indicating the existence of diversity, and plurality itself shows a state of being various. Media pluralism therefore is a system where media outlets...

...through your mind for a long time. Be it the floods, train accident or the little boy's death it is Madhavan who breaks down and get shattered. But Kamalhassan adapts himself and reconciles himself to reality and helps in the best possible way he can. While it takes a lot of effort for Madhavan to tell Kamalhaasan about his fraternal love towards him, Kamalhaasan finds it easy to tell 'A.Ars, you are a go(o)d man' (it's not that easy to tell it to someone earnestly). From where did Kamal get this maturity? The story moves into the flashback of Kamal,a communist, who loves the daughter of a capitalist, Nasser, whom he opposes as a worker regarding wages. When the duo decide to elope to Kerala for marriage, their bus meets with a gory accident. Kamal is badly bruised losing a limb and is totally disfigured. While struggling in bed for life, Nasser speaks extremely rude and blatant to Kamal. On conjuring up the scenes after the accident, he evaluates stark contrast of Nasser and the sister. Kamal sees god through the sister and sees it subsequently in quite a...

...rare, and I have hardly found across a couple of movies which have moved me to this extent. Foremost among those would be the 2003 Tamil masterpiece Anbe Sivam (translated to Love is God). Anbe Sivam was released about 8 years ago and is widely acknowledged as the most profound and deepest of Kamal Haasan’s films till date; Kamal also co-wrote the dialogues with Madan, apart from playing one of the protagonists. The other protagonist is played by Madhavan in probably what is his most memorable role ever. The film also stars Kiran Rathod, Nasser and Santhana Bharathi in important roles. It was directed by Sundar C (though widely rumoured to have been ghost-directed by Kamal himself) and the music was composed by Vidyasagar. The film basically revolves around the lives of the two protagonists over the course of a few days as both of them get stranded in Orissa due to torrential rains and floods, cutting off all forms of transport; the entire plot is rolled out as they try to get back home to Chennai. Madhavan plays Anbarasu (A Ars as he prefers to call himself), a young and successful ad film-maker who has recently got engaged and has his marriage scheduled in about a week’s time. Kamal plays Nallasivam aka Nalla, a middle-aged man with a painful past, who is now disfigured and has a prosthetic leg as a result of a horrible accident which changed the course of his life. As the plot moves ahead, we get to see the differences in the personalities of both of them and how they approach...

...Cherry Strawberry Introduction: I was asked by the chief executive of Uro Cola Company to write a report on the feasibility of introducing two new flavored drinks in the market. In order to do the research I collected some 400 pieces of samples from the production department and with those samples I went to different markets, shopping malls, restaurants and some schools and colleges. I offered the samples to 400 different types of young and old, male and female people and after taking the drinks they expressed their opinions to me about the newly made drinks. Discussion: I visited different markets, shopping malls, restaurants and some schools and colleges and offered the drinks to 400 people. Among those people 73% people gave a very positive response to cherry flavored drink. They said they simply loved the strong red colored sweet and cherry flavored juice. I found that 13% of the people showed medium preference for the drink because they are not very fond of cherry flavor. They also have diabetic, cholesterol and heavy weight problem for which they are not allowed to take this sort of extreme sweet drink.7% people did not like this drink at all. They admitted very frankly that they do not take any sweet or soft drinks because they are strong alcoholics and as they take whisky on a regular basis, they have lost their taste for any light or juicy drink. In the case of strawberry drink I found that 59% showed strong dislike towards the...

...ASA NGO: An overview of ASA The Beginnings & Expansion ASA has emerged as one of the largest and most efficient Microfinance Institution (MFI) in the world and has been working relentlessly to assist the poor since its inception in 1978. The major drive behind ASA is to gradually remove poverty from society. During its early years, ASA undertook various development programs like awareness building for social action, training local birth attendants, capacity building of journalists, etc. In the mid-80's it introduced new programs working in the sector of health and nutrition, education, sanitation, etc. It was at this stage that ASA introduced microcredit as a pilot project. From its hands on experience in the field, and by evaluating the impact of development assistance, ASA realized that financial solvency, to a great extent, is what the poor need to bringing positive changes in their lives. In 1992, this paradigm shift led ASA to focus solely on microfinance as its tool in fighting poverty. ASA wanted to evolve its operations to become self-reliant and move away from depending on donor funding and grants - ASA's Microfinance Model gradually transformed itself to become the globally renowned "ASA Cost–effective and Sustainable Microfinance Model." Following this model, ASA became self-sustainable within a short span of time and the organization declared itself a "donor free MFI" in 2001. This model, that has been practiced and perfected in the field by...
