Keep me in your Heart

It all started with one hello. The day when I met the most beautiful girl my eyes could ever see. Eya Montenegro, the girl that I adore all my life. Whenever she’s around my heart skips a beat, butterflies flood my tummy and I feel like I’m in heaven.

I am Kevin Patrick Padua, the son of the Wilford University’s President. Many thought that I was a playboy, chick magnet perhaps but only one girl entered my heart and never once again left. One day, Eya or Ey walked into the gymnasium where I was playing basketball when suddenly the ball hit her right through the head. “Hey! What’s your problem?” Eya said. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” I say. “Yeah you did.” She said and throws the ball right at me intentionally. “That was mean! I said sorry, remember? I will never again treat you right!” As I said this to her, she immediately walked away.

On our chemistry class, we were given a project and assigned to a lab partner. Unfortunately, Eya is my lab partner. “You again?” She says. “It’s destiny my love” I say with a wink. “Ha ha, very funny” she says with a snobbish attitude. We hardly got ourselves into a conversation the whole class when suddenly she started talking, “So what’s your plan Mr. Padua?” “Let’s meet at my house and get this project over with” I say. “That’s a good idea, Saturday 2 pm? Is that okay?” she says. “That’s perfect.” I say.

Saturday comes and I saw Eya knocking at the doorstep. “Is Kevin Padua here?!” She says. The dog kept barking so I didn’t immediately heard her. “I’m coming!” I say rushing down the stairs. “Oh my! You have a dog here?” she says, frightened. “Yes, you scared? You act like a dog yourself” I say. “You’re a great comedian, don’t you know that?” She said while entering the house. Hours and days passed and I felt something I have never felt before. I feel so comfortable being with her. I like being with her. I like her.

Weeks and months passed. Those times I am with her just feel right and I want it to never end. I want it to be just us, without caring about the world, just us. When we were doing our project, we decided to go out for a stroll. As we were walking, I decided that it’s time to tell her what I truly feel. “Ey...” We stopped. “I just want you to know that I can’t pass a day without thinking about you, your hair, your scent, your perfect smile. Everything about you is just fantastic” I say and she became silent. After a few minutes of awkwardness, she finally said “I don’t want to be somebody’s crush. If somebody likes me, I want them to like the real me, not what they think I am. And I don’t want them to carry it around inside. I want them to show me, so I can feel it too.” “I promise, I’ll show you how important you are to me. I’ll let you feel how serious I am about these feeling I have for you.” I say. As the night skies go darker, we decided to go back and let Ey go home.

After the confession I made for Ey, we really got close. Now, I know her better. What she likes and dislikes. From her favourite music down to her favourite color, everything about her really is interesting. We dated and I courted her, know all I am waiting is her sweet Yes.

My phone buzzes, it’s Ey.

Meet me at the mall. 4 pm.

Ok I’ll be there.

She replied, See you.

I went to the mall and realized Ey isn’t here yet so I waited. After a few minutes, I saw Ey turning her direction back at me and crying. I rushed towards her and asked why. “You ask yourself, Kean!” She says. “Did I do something wrong?” I say, having no idea what she meant. “I saw you with another girl. I know she’s prettier than me, probably better than me. But, why?” “Let me explain. I love you Ey” “You love me? I don’t think so... because in the end all we care about is looks. No one falls in love with personality at first sight” she says, as tears streams down her face. “But...” “No buts kean. I know what I saw. I’m done with this.”

Days passed and I never received a text from Ey. I miss here so much. Her voice, her smile, everything. Then my phone buzzed. It’s Ey’s mom calling. “Hello?” “Kean. Ey’s...” She says, weeping. “What happened? Is Ey alright?” I say, very worried. “I’m sorry to tell you. She’s already dead.” “What? How could this be? What exactly happened? This can’t be real. It should not be real.” “The police found her dead in a road. She has been hit by a speeding truck. The doctors could not save her. I’m so sorry.” After that news, I was really devastated. My ideas of true love and happy ending were too shallow now. Reality just keeps coping up. I want those characters in fairy tales. The princess being rescued by his knight in shining armor and sweeps her off her feet. Those damsels in distress that will meet their prince charming and live happily ever after. Those moments will never happen to me. I know what I’m into now. And all I can do is mourn and let everything pass until I can find happiness in myself again.

Ey’s mom texted me about Ey’s burial. I’m not sure of coming because if I will attend it just shows that I have accepted Ey’s death and I haven’t. I never will. But I want to see her beautiful face again.I want to see the girl who caught my heart, took the lock and never decided to give it to me again. I want to see the perfect girl I fell in love with, the girl who made my heart skip a beat.

At the burial, I came to her bedside. She’s just so beautiful. My tears dropped immediately and I can’t stop the feeling of hurt I have now. “Why leave me here, all alonEy?” I say, crying. A girl came toward me. “Ey, remember the girl you saw I am with at the mall? Well, meet my sister” “She said she like you. Alot.” “You just never gave me the time. That is what’s wrong with you, you’re too excited and I lack time.”

Two weeks later, I opened my voicemail and noticed I have one from Ey. It was sent an hour before she died. “Hey kean. From the first day we met, I thought you were this arrogant but good looking guy. I admit it, you were head turning. I never expected that my feeling for you would exceed the borderline of friendship because I’m afraid to fall in love. I’m afraid to be hurt. But you taught me that the key to change is letting go of my fears. And that’s why, I loved you and always will. I love you Kean Patrick Padua. May you find happiness in your life with me in it.” Her message was all I need to find what she wanted me to find. Although not completely, but it still fillls some parts in the hole in my heart. I was madly in love to the most unexpected one. The thought of her, made my life complete. I gave her all my love, but she gave me heartache and sadness in return.
