...Below are the 16 differences between successful people and unsuccessful people that Andy Bailey and the postcard claim, followed by a picture of the postcard itself: 1. Embrace change vs. Fear change Embracing change is one of the hardest things a person can do. With the world moving so fast and constantly changing, and technology accelerating faster than ever, we need to embrace what’s coming and adapt, rather than fear it, deny it or hide from it. 2. Want others to succeed vs. Secretly hope others fail When you’re in an organization with a group of people, in order to be successful, you all have to be successful. We need to want to see our co-workers succeed and grow. If you wish for their demise, why even work with them at all? 3. Exude joy vs. Exude anger In business and in life, it’s always better to be happy and exude that joy to others. It becomes contagious and encourages other to exude their joy as well. When people are happier they tend to be more focused and successful. If a person exudes anger, it puts everyone around them in a horrible, unmotivated mood and little success comes from it. 4. Accept responsibly for your failures vs. Blame others for your failures Where there are ups, there are most always downs. Being a leader and successful businessperson means always having to accept responsibility for your failures. Blaming others solves nothing; it just puts other people down and absolutely no good comes from it. 5. Talk about ideas vs...

...From the first moment I walked into this Positive Psychology class, I knew it would change something about me, for good. As a natural optimist, I was already expecting to have something good come out of this course that would affect my life, broaden my perspective, and somehow change something about my behavior. Little did I know that I would get so much more than just notes, lectures, and homework, I received some important tools for life that can help me in many situations. The five tools I incorporated into my life and do today are benefit finding, the nightly gratitude journal, and importance of flow in life, eudemonia, and the wonder drug. These important five tools that I picked up this semester result in an increase in happiness and so much more. Once of the first things that I remember really stuck out to me was, Professor Susan Thompson’s story of her life as a benefit finder and as a fault-finder. The difference was incredible and from that moment on I dedicated my life to transforming into a benefit-finder for all of life’s situations. I never considered myself as a fault-finder, but it always depended on the situation, now as a benefit-finder my life is open to more opportunities to learn, and move onto the future. For example, recently my little sister and I have been looking for a white Pomeranian breed puppy. Ever she was a little girl she wanted this puppy, and now as a fully employed part-time teen she has made it her job to find one. Together we have been looking...

...Dalton Hill Vocation and Life Journals Dr. Patty 11/7/15 Journal 1: Mailaender LLM Certain relationships are of profound importance for human life and of great significance for the moral life. Meilaender explores some of the tension which Christian experience discovers in one such relationship, that of the bond of friendship. These tensions help to explain why friendship was a more important topic in the life and thought of the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome than it has usually been within Christendom. Journal 2: Merton in LLM The author states that solitude is "not just a recipe for hermits" but a means to keeping society together. Individuals need a retreat from the exigencies and pressures of work in order to dialogue with God. Merton outlines some characteristics of the spiritual life that set the stage for solitude: gratitude, keeping awake, practicing humility, listening, and unifying our lives. He sees silence as "the mother of truth" and as a divine milieu. He calls the Psalms "the true garden of the solitary." By submitting ourselves to God, we foster our love for others while we are apart from them. This is "the true fruit and the true purpose of Christian solitude.” Journal 3: Harding in LLM In “I Hear Them… Calling”, the community really helped Vincent Harding realize his profession of historian and minister and rebel for a cause. He was able to make his own choice and he changed ideas, career ideas, and actual professions, many times...

...happiness is keeping a gratitude journal where one regularly keeps a consistent record of positive events that occur in the day. One of the aims of a 2003 experiment conducted by Robert A. Emmons and Michael McCullough was to examine the effects of gratitude listing on mood and behavior. In the experiment, “participants were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 experimental conditions (hassles, gratitude listing, and either neutral life events or social comparison” (Emmons and McCullough 377). Along with being placed in different experimental conditions, each group of participants kept regular, individual records of their mood and behavior. The results of the experiment found that “participants in the gratitude condition reported considerably more satisfaction with their lives as a whole, felt more optimism about the upcoming week, and felt more connected with others” (Emmons and McCullough 385). Some may argue that utilizing a survey method of experimentation contains possible confounding variables that can alter results such as response bias and sample size. However, similar experiments regarding the same subject matter has been done before and yielded results consistent to those results of this experiment. Moreover, while results collected from self-reports of a sample population may not always be fully applicable to all people, the frequent occurrence of similar results from similar experiments suggest that there may indeed be a possible correlation between gratitude listing and happiness...

...performance appraisal methods used by different companies. Gerard C. Eakedale has once said “recognition is the greatest motivator.” Human Resources Departments are aware of this and have implemented the appropriate methods to incorporate their appreciation and gratitude to employees when they go above and beyond the call of duty to improve their work performance. This paper will analyze the methods used at my current company of employment and recommend improvements that can contribute to improving the workplace performance. Employee selection processes are a company’s way of finding out who would be the best candidate for the specific position they are trying to fill. Whether it be from one simple phone interview or multiple interviews with different managers of the company, different businesses come up with what they believe to be the most effective way to find someone to fill a position and must follow the procedure. This procedure is put into place so that there will be no confusion or risks of any favoritism, bias, illegal, or biased behavior going into the process. Additionally, employees working for a company want to feel appreciated for all of their hard work. Companies have their methods of expressing gratitude in which this paper will analyze the different methods and offer recommendations to make it a better experience for both management and employees. After reading this paper, it should be clear the different effective ways to select a candidate and improving the...

...daily basis not only their own personal life but the life they deal with in the society. They must prepare mentally, internally, externally, physical, and operational. They face the fact that they may not only have their own life in danger but as well as others at all times. Furthermore, they may not have the support at work from others and also the support from the community that may put them in danger. It is important that all officers have thorough training and safety practices. Officers also rely on the most modern technology so that they can proceed with their job effectively. All the training and all the safety that officers are provided with still does not guarantee their safety. Therefore, it is important to acknowledge and give gratitude to all of the thousands of officer throughout our nation that put their life on the line for our safety. The use of less-than lethal weapons has decreased injuries for officers and offenders. It is nothing new that officers have been using wooden clubs since the eighteen hundreds, now they use pepper spray and conducted energy devices such as Taser ("Police Use Of Force: The Impact Of Less-Lethal Weapons And Tactics", 2011). Officers also use canine’s to go after offenders but have caused severe injuries. Taser seems to be the most effective and the technique that causes fewer injuries out on the field of policing. Police officers not only use the high technology of Taser and pepper spray but they must adhere to the...

...Do You Have What It Takes to Be Happy? By Stacey Colino 1.If you add up money, beauty, fame, and admiration, you’ve got the formula for a lifetime of bliss, right? Wrong. The truth is, your financial status, external circumstances, and life events account for no more than 15 percent of your happiness quotient, studies show. What elements do make a difference? Surprisingly simple internal factors such as having healthy self-esteem, a sense of optimism and hope, gratifying relationships, and meaning and purpose in your life have the most influence, according to recent studies on what researchers call “subjective well-being” 2.If that sounds like a tall order, here’s the good news: Even if they don’t come naturally, many of the attitudes and thought patterns that influence happiness can be cultivated, which means you can boost your capacity for happiness today—and in the future. “Studies with twins reveal that happiness is somewhat like a person’s cholesterol level—it’s genetically influenced, but it’s also influenced by some factors that are under our control”, explains David Myers, Ph.D., a social psychologist at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and author of The Pursuit of Happiness (Harper Collins, 1993). In other words, while your genetically determined temperament has a fairly strong influence on your happiness quotient, you can nudge it upward with the attitudes and approaches you bring to your life. To develop a sunnier disposition, use the simple strategies outlined...

...Concept Comparison and Analysis across Theories “Nursing theory is the term given to the body of knowledge applied to support nursing practice. Nursing theory is a framework designed to organize knowledge and explain phenomena in nursing, at a more concrete and specific level. A nursing theory is a set of concepts, definitions, relationships, and assumptions or propositions derived from nursing models or from other disciplines and project a purposive, systematic view of phenomena by designing specific interrelationships among concepts for the purposes of describing, explaining, predicting, and prescribing” (“Currentnursing.com”, 2010). Core concepts embody a theory creating the basis for the theory or model. In nursing, concepts help in the development of theories. Theorists have developed different models or theories but have common core concepts. Dorothea Orem’s self-care deficit nursing theory “The central philosophy of the Orem’s self-care deficit nursing theory is that patients want to care for themselves and can recover more quickly and holistically by performing their own self-care as much as they're able. The self-care requisites identified by Dorothea Orem fall into one of three categories” (“Currentnursing.com”, 2010): 1. Universal self-care requisites. a. Air b. Water c. Food d. Activity e. Rest f. Hazard prevention. 2. Developmental self-care requisites. a. Maturational: progresses the patient to a higher level of maturation. b. Situational:...

...Running Head: JOE SALATINO Joe Salatino, President of Great Northern American Case Study The case study of Joe Salatino, President of Great Northern American, enlightens the success process of the organization. It highlights the measures and processes that Salatino adopted to motivate his employees in order to enhance the achievements of Great Northern American. It portrays the fact that in spite of having a sales force of 30 employees, Salatino was still able to achieve success and effectively compete with its competitors. Why Joe’s employees need to understand the importance of how people form perceptions and make attributions? Perception is a process which involves the recognition and interpretation of stimuli which register our senses. It relates to how we make sense of our environment and sensation refers to basic stimulation of the sense organs. Understanding the perception of people is essentially important. The role that perception of a customer plays in a business transaction is very much significant for the growth of the organization, as it is due to the perception of an individual which affects the outcomes of the conclusion that an individual draws on a particular good, product or service (Wilson & Rookies, 2000, p. 2-3). In the case study of Joe Salatino, the President of Great Northern American, it is evident that the understanding of the perception of the customers is essentially important for the employees working in Joe’s firm. As it is acknowledged...

...Strategies for Evaluating Electronic Medical Records System Keisha Williams-Young HCS/587 May 02, 2011 In the past few years, many organizations have been making technological advances when it comes to medical records. By implementing Electronic Medical Records system to the Long-Term Care Home Facility, managers will be taking a huge leap into the future. Of course, when organizations decide to make an over-haul change of this magnitude, managers need to make sure they have planned strategies for measuring the various outcomes. Now that the implementation of Electronic Medical Records system has been implemented at the Long-Term Care Facility, management needs to focus on the strategies for determining just how effective was the change to the EMR system. The managers must also be able to analyze possible future outcomes of the implementation as well as looked at how they plan to measure the quality and satisfaction outcomes of the implemented change plan. Change Effectiveness Now that Electronic Medical Records system has been implemented at the Long-Term Care Facility, managers will now have to determine how effective the change to the EMR system was. According to Spector (2010), effectiveness is determined by the degree to which employee behavior is adaptive; moving people in a direction that is in the long-term best interests of employees and the organization. By watching, talking, and gathering surveys from employees...
