Affirmative Action
Affirmative action remains a program or policy that takes measures actively to ensure, concerns for general education, equal opportunities, parliament or government seats, and employment (United States Department of Labor, 2002). The initial policies proved intended for helping blacks began fairly, but evolved into more for every American (Bennett-Alexander & Hartman, 2012, p. 272). The author will elaborate on why organizations remain subjects to affirmative action. The author will also explain what the plans require of employers, and list in detail what happens if the goals of the affirmative action plan remain unaccomplished.
The Affirmative Action Plan
The requisites of laws, regulations, rules, and court cases that mandate affirmative action and nondiscrimination, which agencies must plenarily meet in particular situations present as compliance. An EEO-1 annual report is required from private organizations that house 100 or more workers and with federal contract regimes of $50,000 and 50 workers or more for federal contractors (Bennett-Alexander & Hartman, 2012, p. 242). The process helps to provide a head count of the organizations workforce in categories of job, gender, race, and ethnicity. In addition, the process will also help eliminate discriminating and treatment toward groups or persons based on sex, race, or protected classes illegally. Disparate impact and disparate treatment remain the two forms of discrimination (FindLaw, 2014).
Disparate impact has a greater effect negatively on protected class members than others. A disparate treatment is unfair treatment because of an individual's protected-class, disability, sex, or race (FindLaw, 2014). For example, to recruit women, covered veterans, minorities who prove advanced and qualified, and individuals with

...response to the threats which the industry has experienced. In order to mitigate eroding market share: given the growth of beer imports, competition from specialty-craft brewers, a decline in sales of the leading domestic premium brands, and competition from new products and marketing methods, the leading breweries actively acquire successful micro-breweries and add its label to their portfolio of beverages (Aaker, 1996; Arens & Bovee, 1982; Belch & Belch, 2001; Elzinga, 2004). Similarly, the industry leaders utilize extensive advertising strategies to save market share and simultaneously attempt to alter their positioning and public perception (Assmus, Farley & Lehmann, 1984; Baker & Bresnahan, 1985; Grabowski, 1977; Kelton & Kelton, 1982; Nelson, 2005). In order to maintain their market share, the major breweries keep discount famous-name beers while introducing new styles of beer (light, ice, non-alcoholic) as well as employing various packaging innovations (Berger, 1988; Seiler, 2002). Health Care Forces

...The Forces Affecting the System Evangeline Hampton HAS/500 November 5, 2013 Doctor Debra Beazley Abstract The forces, which have affected the development of the health care system in the United States, are economics, technology and legal. The functioning of the health care system in economic development has become an influential issue. Health care is a predominant industry in the United States and is expected to develop further. Health care performance influences the economic growth in several rural communities. The health care system could be an influential organization and supplier of economic development or unimportant segment of the local economic model (Shinberger, 2005). As medical technology evolves, understanding how and when to adopt or invest in it is critically important. Move too early, and the infrastructure needed to support the innovation may not yet be in place; wait too long, and the time to gain competitive advantage may have passed. The economics affects the competition, which exists with the development of technology. The improvement in health care reports economic tasks: capital for the advance change and considering the parties responsible for the cost, and expenses for the product or service it yields. One difficulty is the time-consuming speculation period necessary for different medications or therapies, which needs the food and drug administration approval. Economics, Technology and Legal The health care segment is an essential factor...

The Good and Bad of Sales Representatives

...The Good and bad of Sales Representatives Christopher Kelton BUSN115: Introduction to Business and Technology Professor Jay Egger DeVry University 5 April 2014 The Good and bad of Sales Representatives Introduction The purpose of this paper is telling my experiences with sales representatives. It begins with my most memorably good experience and moves to my most memorably unpleasant experience. I then compare the two to further illustrate the difference in the two. Next we examine in further detail the reasons one made me feel good and one made me feel uncomfortable. Most Memorable Experience My best experience as of late with a sales person was when I went to buy tires at Pep Boys. The sales person made the experience a pleasure. I went in with an idea of the style, type, and purpose I needed the tires to be able to accomplish. When I talked to the sales associate he listened to me and put together options of tires the met and exceeded my requirements, weather they were in the store of from another company. He explained the differences in the tires and how they were quality rated and ranked the according to best suited and price. We discussed the options and he even tried to get a lower price online just to make sure he was not over charging me. It shows that he was looking out for the customer and portraying the company in a good way by insuring loyal customers that feel like they are being taken care of both at the start of the sale and after...

...ride towards the reservation, armed with only a bow, when he was joined by his fellow soldiers, where, upon his comrades arrival, the enemy advanced towards them, inevitably leaving Walker to be unsuccessful in restraining the enemy's force. Walker continues to narrate that he saw the soldiers shooting at fleeing women and children. In the aftermath of the attack, the “Seventh Cavalry Army had killed and wounded more than 200 Native Americans” (Kelton 117). Walker claims that he saw the bodies of men, women, children, and babies scattered all over the reservation. On the other hand, President Harrison described the event as a program aimed at reducing land ownership by Native Americans. According to President Benjamin Harrison, the attack at Wounded Knee was an effort to protect the lives of the settlers that were located around the area. “Harrison stated that with the complaints of a reduction and delays in supplies which the Sioux were entitled to by the treaty, an attack on the white settlers around the area was imminent” (Kelton 119). Moreover, Harrison states that the warlike nature of the Sioux, strengthened by the excitement derived from the encouragement given by their chiefs and medicine men through the notion of the arrival of an Indian messiah, made the Sioux a dangerous group. The American history is joined by an extensive rundown of wayfarers who initially were found and investigated by the massive landmass. Conclusively, the majority of the adventurers affected...

Realismwhat Are the Key Principles and Claims That Underpin Realist and Liberal Understandings of the World?

...Hobbes describes realism as all men interacting in anarchy and are equal. They are motivated by competition (scarcity), glory and diffidence. Realism emphasizes on constrains on politics imposed by egoism and the absence of anarchy which require ‘the primacy in all political life of power and security’ (Donnelly, 2009).Realists rely on themselves and do not recognize any authority in anyone and pursue power at all cost at national interest to achieve sovereignty which results them to maximize their military power to ensure survival. This leads to security dilemma (Dunne & Schimdt, 2011). The main difference between classical realism and neo-realism is the determinants of state behaviour. For neo-realists, the balance of power is a main motivation due to human nature According to the 6 principles of Morgenthau’s Politics of Nation, politics is governed by laws created by human nature and revolves around the concept of interest, defined in terms of power. This leads to classical realists being pessimistic. States act in a selfish and competitive manner in a constant state of anarchy seeking power. Neo-realists however think that economic resources and military powers are important to influence other states to achieve hegemonic stability (Dunne & Schimdt, 2011). Realism revolves around 3 core elements; statism, survival and self-help. Statism is the ideology that instils the belief that community are protected and sustained by states. This allows the states to increase their...

Roy Orbison Research Paper

...adopt to a whole different culture from my own was very difficult, but the most difficult part of all was leaving my mother back home. The one thing that kept me going was music. I used to listen to music day and night trying to find radio stations that played the songs that I remembered my mother singing in Colombia. Although, we were so far away from each other, it somehow made me feel closer and still connected to her. Throughout the years I started to learn English and started researching about the lyrics of the songs and I simply fell in love with it even more than before. This is when I finally found out who the artist of this beautiful songs was. This is the story of one of my favorite singers from all times. Roy Orbison. Roy Kelton Orbison, born April 23, 1936 in Vernon, Texas, where his family had resided for generations, to Orbie Lee Orbison and Nadine Orbison. His father was involved in the oil industry as well as being a proficient mechanic, the later lending a hand to Roy’s affection for cars, and his mother a nurse. Embracing DNA, Expanding Horizons: The Panda Turns Fifty The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was established fifty years ago to save endangered species from extinction. The first WWF office was established in Switzerland in April 1961 and the second was established in the United States in December of that year. Fifty years later, WWF is one of the largest conservation organizations in the world, operating in more than 100 countries and employing more than 5,000 staff. WWF is a global network of 30 self-governed national offices, five WWF associates operating under different names, and dozens of program offices each working under the direction of a national office. Over the years, WWF’s work has expanded beyond species conservation to include habitat preservation and pollution reduction. Acknowledging this expanded scope, the global organization changed its name in 1986 to the World Wide Fund for Nature. However, WWF offices in the United States and Canada retained the original name and, in 2001, the WWF network decided to use the original acronym “WWF” as its one global name. Notwithstanding the different names, WWF’s logo—the iconic panda—is cherished by the entire WWF network. Inspired by a popular panda named Chi Chi at the London zoo...

Importance of Independent Learning

...Why it is important that I understand what independent learning is? By: Catia Marques As Social Creatures we have the desire to learn, this desire is cultivated during our early development when we learn, through participation (Berk 2008). In these early stages of learning, cognitive, metacognitive and effective skills are developed. These are vital skills for a student to comprehend independent learning. Knowing and understanding the value of ‘independent learning’ has been considered the core basis for a successful academic journey. In other words, ‘independent learning’ is the foundation for students becoming confident self-regulated life-long learners, Koper and Tattersall (2004). Although, ‘independent learning’ is not a new concept, Broad, (2006) believes that there seems to be a lack of agreement on what it actually means.   However, the intention of this paper, therefore is to analyse the meaning of ‘independent learning’ and the important influence it has on a student’s academic performance. This paper will also evaluate the impact of teaching modes on the learner’s education experience. Therefore in order to understand the importance of ‘independent learning’, one must look into its meaning to fully comprehend its value and benefits. Kesten,(1987) defines ‘independent learning’ as the “acquisition of knowledge free of external control by a self-motivated learner that willingly and appropriately identifies and uses resources available to make decisions to meet...
