Summary:
In his argument, “Kenneth Cole Gets Schooled,” David Sirota’s thesis claims that Kenneth Cole’s campaign against public schools, teachers, and unions is wrong and ideologically extreme. Cole’s foundation, which conflicts “Teachers’ Rights vs. Students’ Rights,” has many problems. Sirota states, “[The campaign] fundamentally misunderstands how education works … a clothing corporation doesn’t have much credibility on education issues,” (para. 9). Exceptional teachers are needed at schools that educate at-risk populations as they can overcome student hardships and help them succeed. Sirota believes that unless teachers’ rights are extended, it’ll be impossible to recruit teachers to schools that need them most.
