Kergyma Community Choir The choir was founded November 2001, in New Haven, Connecticut through the vision of Arnold Johnson, a dedicated member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church and Gwendolyn Busch, also a dedicated member of Bethel A. M. E. Church. Kergyma (pron. Ker-gee-ma) from the Greek translation: proclaiming or proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ with the intention to elicit the decision of faith in the redemptive work of Christ. The mission of Kergyma Community Choir is to bring together an aggregation of Christians from different ethics, socio-economic and denominational backgrounds for the sole purpose of witness through song. Kerygma’s mission also is to enhance the spiritual of New Haven as well as the secular community through the proclamation works of Jesus Christ. The objectives of this choir is to create a medium in which Christian men and women can come together to lift their voices in holy, merciful praise. The Goals of Kergyma Community Choir are to: 1. Aid the lost, hungry and saved souls by bringing the word of God through song. 2. To seek new members and introduce the lost souls to Christ through song. 3. To support the community of New Haven, Connecticut and other communities by providing spiritual guidance, refuge and mercy through song.
Kerygma’s introduction of this ministry to the city of New Haven, Connecticut was due to the foresight and faith of Arnold Johnson and Gwendolyn Busch, both lifelong residents of New Haven. They both felt there was a need in New Haven, Connecticut, to bring together an aggregation of Christian people from different social economic and denomination backgrounds to effectively minister the good news of Jesus Christ through song.
