The person who I greatly admire is Tan Sri Dato Seri Lim Goh Tong. Tan Sri Dato Seri Lim Goh Tong was born in 1918 in Anxi, a mountainous county in south eastern Fujian province in China. Tan Sri Dato Seri Lim Goh Tong was a prominent wealthy Malaysian Chinese businessman. He was renowned for his vision and courage in transforming Genting Highlands from an unexplored hilltop to one of the world's most successful casino resorts. He was once the 3rd richest man in Malaysia with a net worth estimated to be 4.2 billion USD. This making him the 204th richest person in the billionaire list compiled by Forbes.
Tan Sri Dato Sri Lim Goh Tong set up a private company called Genting Highlands Berhad on 27 April 1965 and Tan Sri Lim successfully obtained approval for the alienation of 12,000 acres and 2,800 acres of land from the Pahang and Selangor State Government. In 1971, the first hotel at Genting Highlands was successfully completed and was named Highlands Hotel.
There are many great things of Tan Sri Dato Seri Lim Goh Tong that I always admire. The personal values that Tan Sri Dato Sri Lim Goh Tong demonstrate is determination. He acts as a role model and inspiration to many that the difficulties one may face should not be the barrier in to achieving one's goal and success. Although he received many negative comments from his relatives and friends into venturing into this project, he was still determined in conducting this project. He even sold off his plantation to raise RM2.5 billion for the project.
He is not only a determine person, but also a punctual businessman. Whenever Tan Sri Dato Sri Lim Goh Tong promise to meet someone, he always make it a point to arrive 10 minutes before the appointed time. To Tan Sri Dato Sri Lim Goh Tong, all appointments are important. He do not make excuses to cancel an appointment just because the other party is not an important person.
The last value is selflessness. Tan Sri Dato Sri Lim Goh Tong never stingy when it comes to money and in donating. He had set up a foundation called the ‘Yayasan Lim', which donates regularly to educational and medical institutions and other charitable organization. Apart from his success in business he still gives back to the society through his foundation, the Yayasan Lim.
