...exclusive dormitory for male students of UP Diliman. Anyways, I was with Leo yesterday and he told me that he will go to UP Diliman to bring something for Kiko. Because of not having been there for a long time, I decided to join him and went there from Las Pinas. It was really a tiring ride from the almost southernmost part of Manila to the northernmost part of the region. Leo and I were able to get a cab from Las Pinas and it cost me a lot for the fare... Well, we arrived in UP Diliman at around 8:30 in the evening. We waited for Kiko at Philcoa Jollibee Branch. Just after 15 minutes, I guess, we saw Kiko outside waiving at us with Anton. I felt happy seeing them again after a long time. They told me that Narra is having their OPEN HOUSE that night. Leo told me that he informed me about it but I cant really remember him telling me that. Anyways, I felt a bit bad because I didnt bring my camera with me...and I was only holding my very cheap Nokia 1110i and left my phone camera in my condo. So it was a little frustrating though...I kept on blaming Leo and Leo kept on telling me that he infomed me about it. I guess it was my fault...I'm so damn deaf! Moving on...Leo, Kiko, Anton and I went to a nearby Jeepney Station from Philcoa. While walking towards the station, we saw Christian who's a former dormmate of ours too. I think Kiko informed him about the activity in Narra so he decided to come too. So we all went straight to Narra and arrived there after a 10 to 15 minute ride. Every...

They represent the masculinity and the femininity in ourselves to balance and/or even out our souls. The men wear tattoo designs on half of their face, inner and/or outer lining of the arm or leg, the backs of the hands, and the front of the body. Just like the men, the women wear tattoo designs on the inner and/or outer leg (specifically the upper thigh area), the wrists, and the back of the hands, the fingers, the arms, the neck, the ankles, and the chest. The priest is the only one to actually practice these tattoos, rituals which consist of ceremonies and chants. But modern day techniques are usually done by experts. Kiko 2 The kuʻau is a term for mallet, which is used with force to puncture the surface of the skin with the traditional needle and ink. The Hawaiian word for tattoo markings is uhi, used to define “a mark left by dye on the body or on tapa” (Kwiatkowski 9). The needle is called moli, “… Bone made into a tattooing needle” (9). And the term for applying a tattoo is called kakau, “kakau i ka uhi” describes “tattooing of the mark” (Kwiatkowski 12). The ink “is called paʻu, which is extracted from the kukuiʻs burnt remain and soot” (12). The soot of the kukui nut was made by burning the kernels in fire surrounded by rocks, gathered on a flat smooth stone which would then be placed on top of the fireplace, burning kernels to collect the soot. ...MKT – 21 20140544 What If? We, the FEU Diliman students, were given a chance to watch the musical stage play #Popular (Paano Kung Pinoy si Kiko?) written and directed by Vince Tañada. It tells the story about on how Pope Francis inspired Filipino heroes of the modern times. It started off with five Filipinos asking the question “Paano kung Pinoy si Kiko?” First was Joey Velasco who was a very brilliant painter well-known for his painting Table of Hope (Hapag ng Pag-asa) which portrayed Jesus Christ fraternizing with street children instead of his disciples. Joey was suffering cancer. Painting was his motivation through out all his challenges in life. Before he died he helped two street children who were also painted in his last painting – Table of Hope (Hapag ng Pagasa). After the people saw his painting many people were asking on how they could help the street children. He was able to show that art is a good medium to convey message to others and lead to something great. Second was Kristel Padasas, a 27-year-old Catholic volunteer who met her demise during a papal mass for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan last January. Kristel was eager to get close to the Pope during the mass rally. But an unexpected incident happened. The loud speaker fell into her head and it caused Kristel’s death. Third was Dr. Edgardo Gomez, a world-renowned marine biologist who was awarded the rank of National Scientist of the Philippines last year. He vowed to protect the coral reefs even...

...The Detection of Gravitational Waves, How Close Are We? Since the realization that the general theory of relativity predicts gravitational waves, there have been attempts to actually detect these waves. Indirect observations have been made that support their existence but no direct measurement. This paper gives a brief explanation of gravitational waves and discusses the current condition of the experimental search for gravitational waves. It deals with the newest techniques that will enable their detection. The focus of the paper is on three experimental groups: LIGO, VIRGO, and LISA. From our research of these groups we believe that the detection of gravitational waves will occur within the next decade. Gravitational waves: Understanding and Detection Gravitational waves carry information about catastrophic events in the universe. We give a brief description of gravitational waves with an overview of the current projects underway to detect them. We begin by discussing the theoretical prediction of gravitational waves from Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. We listseveral possible sources of these waves and describe how they produce gravitational waves. We also discussthe characteristic signals each source sendsto Earth. We outline advantages and challenges for several detection methods now being...

...Children in crime: Cracks in the country's juvenile justice system By: Annie Ruth C. Sabangan, InterAksyon.com Oct.9, 2011..www.interaksyon.com/article/14780/children-in-crime-cracks-in-the-countrys-juvenile-justice-system MANILA, Philippines – How do you make criminals out of children? Put them in areas where they won’t be able to meet their basic needs for food, water, shelter, health care, education and sanitation. Strip them of their rights to develop and maintain a life of dignity so that they’ll grow up uneducated and unemployed. Mire them in places where there is no solution to despair and destitution. In the Philippines, where the plight of majority of the poor remains largely unaddressed, many places become breeding grounds for youth offenders. While many of these children were able to rise from the rut---proving that poverty isn’t a justifiable excuse for committing crime--thousands of other juveniles have failed to get out of the trap and are forced to break the law primarily to survive. At the Center for Restorative Activities Development and Learning Experiences (CRADLE) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City, most of the 74 male children aged 15 and above who are accused of crimes come from poor families, mostly from depressed areas in Paranaque, Pasig, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, San Juan, and Malabon. The place is run by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. “Pinakamaraming kaso ng mga...
