Two years ago I wrote a paper on right brain, left brain. I asked myself why is it hard for me to retain math, but not for other people. I spent four hours a day with a tutor trying to catch up with people younger than me. A tutor told me about right brain, left brain, some are good at writing papers, while others are good at math and there are few people in the world who are good at both. Yesterday, I took a survey on VARK and it told me I am dominant in the kinesthetic way of learning. Is that right or left brain dominant? What am I? How will this help me study? First I need to ask what kinesthetic learning is. According to VARK, for me to be able to learn the material I need all of my senses, sight, sound, touch, and hearing. I should take a field trip or taking a hands on approach for trial and error. This the best way for me to learn. VARK also accurately states that I take poor notes because I cannot follow a basic lecture, especially if I am already past the point that has been …show more content…
These are the analytical thinkers, our engineers, and mathematicians. Whereas right brain thinkers are aesthetics thinkers are visual thinkers, they think with feeling, and creativity. This is the categories of people like Walt Disney. For example: Roy Disney, the business man, and left brain thinker kept the business running for his Right brain brother Walt to be creative. What I learned from this is I need to be creative with my studying to understand the topic. Kinesthetic thinking I believe is right brain dominant. I can write this paper and add creativity at the same time, however math does not flow as easy. I am not alone. It is because of us creative thinkers that a curriculum is well rounded to be more whole-brained and to help various types of learners understand the material. Schools incorporate more role playing for visual thinkers and analytical

...The various learning styles assessments that Ashley completed showed that she has a multimodal learning preference. This means that she can use multiple learning strategies to her benefit when learning. Although she is a multimodal learner, some of her strengths include linguistic, kinesthetic, tactile, and intrapersonal. To strengthen her learning and studying habits to meet the demands of college, she should apply her strengths when preparing notes, making real-world connections to better understand topics, and when managing time to study. Preparing notes is the first step to student success. Taking notes during instructional time taps into Ashley’s linguistic style of learning. According to www.edutopia.org (2015), verbal-linguistic intelligence...

...The VARK learning questionnaire was developed by Neil Fleming of Christchurch, New Zealand in 1987. The VARK is a tool used to provide people with their own personal learning preference. It is used to help individuals learn ways that each of us take in and give out knowledge. The different styles of learning are visual, aural/auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic. • Visual (V) learners prefer information placed in maps, spider diagrams, charts, graphs, labeled diagrams and symbolic arrows. • Aural/Auditory (A) learners prefer information that is heard. This type of learner has a preference to lectures, group discussion, emails, speaking, and web-chats. They prefer talking out loud and to self. They prefer to sort things out in their own way. • Read/Write (R) learners like information provided in words. The preferred leaning modalities text bases in such forms as manuals, reports, essays and PowerPoints. • Kinesthetic (K) learners prefer experience and practice. They prefer the information provided to be through concrete personal experiences or practice and the hands on approach. I, like 50 to 75 percent of people that take the questionnaire, scored in the multi-dimensional category with a preference towards the read/write and kinesthetic categories. Preference to the Read/Write category means that people that fall into this category like words and are strong note takers. They should take information from dictionaries, glossaries, list, notes, and essays and usually...

...There are four main learning styles that the vast majority of the population falls into. These include the visual, aural, reading/writing, and kinesthetic methods. The kinesthetic learning style is a tactile way of learning that allows the learner to interact with the lesson. Kinesthetic learners do best by being able to feel and touch. Having a hands on approach to the material that is being taught allows these students to retain the information and better understand it. According to “Kinesthetic Study Strategies” (n.d.), these type of learners “need to do things to understand”. Unfortunately, only 15% of students learn this way. This makes education difficult for these students, as most education is catered to the majority of students, which is evenly split between visual and auditory learners (Anderson, n.d.). The author of this essay identifies as a kinesthetic learner. Being a kinesthetic learner, the preferred learning strategies have included many that are typical for this learning style. Hands on approaches for nursing skills have been highly successful, as well as return demonstration. The author has also found that teaching other skills has greatly improved her understanding and method. In order to learn ideas that are not skill related, illustrating the idea and explaining it to others has proved very effective. Also, the author will often write about events in clinicals, what actions she took, and then research to see if these were the best actions...

The most popular used learning tools is the VARK model (Visual, Aural/Auditory, Read /Write and Kinesthetic) by Fleming. The VARK concept is centered on 4 core learning preferences that the students have. VISUAL- students who like to actually see it on the charts, whiteboard and pictures. They’re most likely the imaginative students. They like to use varies colors when writing in their notebooks. AUDITORY-will sit back and listen. READ/WRITE- need to read the information, theses ones prefer to take a lot of notes. KINESTHETIC- do not like to sit still. They want to be participating in their education. According to the VARK, this author has kinesthetic learning style. These kinds of learners prefer to learn by touching, moving, experience, and by doing experiments, science projects, etc. Students with high tactile and kinesthetic styles are called doers. In a class of pupils, you will see these students because they stand out. They are constantly moving, they become agitated do to their increase energy level, kinesthetic learners' long and short term memory is reinforced by their use of their body’s movements. According to (Barman, et al. 2009), for kinesthetic learners it helps them to move around as this increases the pupils understanding, The kinesthetic learner usually does well in classes such as, sports , art,...

...Everybody has their own learning styles. Some learn by seeing, some by hearing, some by reading or writing and some by experiencing things. Multifocal learning is the preferred learning style for majority of the learning population. Multifocal learning can be a combination of Visual and Auditory or Read/Write or Kinesthetic. It can also be a combination of 2or 3 of the above mentioned leaning styles. Multifocal Learning helps to use more strategies to learn and communicate. So based on the questionnaire aural, read/write and kinesthetic is the preferred learning style. For the multifocal learners, they prefer more techniques of learning and they may feel incomplete if they have to stick to only one strategy. To learn new things in desirable way, one is comfortable and they have to make useful what they are involved and to get good grades, one has to prefer one main learning strategy and make use of the other strategies as a support. Of the three strategies mentioned in the preferred leaning styles, read / write is the one which sounds good. Compared to strategies like aural, read / write and kinesthetic, read/write has more benefits. Most people use some or all of the instructions mentioned below if reading / writing is strongly preferred. The information is taken in the best way if one will do lists of readings , note headings, refer dictionaries, mark glossaries, have definitions and handouts, do reading like read textbooks and library readings, have notes of whatever you...

Individual Learning Style

...Individual Learning Style Life is constant learning, including lessons that vary regardless of our preferences. The way we like to learn is unique for everybody and depends on a person’s learning style. Learning styles depict on four different ways of learning and according to the VARK guide, they are Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinesthetic. In this essay I will present my learning styles, preferred learning strategies and show a comparison between preferred and identified strategies. Also, I will review how individual learning styles and strategies impact teaching and learning. The VARK questionnaire results show that I have “Multimodal” learning style. It appears that the multimodal style is equilibrium for all four learning styles. Multiple preferences are unique when it comes to that they give you a possibility to choose between all four approaches to our learning and four intercommunications with others. By matching multiple modes to meaningful people that surround us, we create a positive attitude. However, people that wish to cause irritation may choose a mode that is different from the other person’s mode. As my kinesthetic strategy prevails in my learning style, I can consider it significant and preferred in my learning process. Fundamentally kinesthetic learning means that the learner has a demand to be vigorously doing something in order for the process of learning to be productive. It is difficult for these people to concentrate and learn when they are sitting...

...I am a Kinesthetic Learner Amanda B. Greene INFT 101-C64 October 24, 2013 I am a Kinesthetic Learner There are three main learning styles which consist of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. A visual learner learns best by visually seeing and reading what they are learning. An auditory learner enjoys listening to what is being taught in order to better comprehend the material. Kinesthetic learners are typically hands on learners. Kinesthetic learners use bodily communication to assist with learning amongst several other strategies is extremely helpful; however we can also have multiple distractions. Kinesthetic learners use physical activity to learn and comprehend information. When I took the learning styles quiz I scored a seven on the kinesthetic learning section, I also scored a five on the visual and auditory learning sections. Although my score shows that I have strong points in each learning aspect, the way I feel I learn to the best of my ability is through the kinesthetic learning style. The outcome of this quiz does not come to a surprise to me due to the fact I have always considered myself to have kinesthetic learning habits. There are numerous strategies that are used by kinesthetic learners. Thinking proactive and taking color coded notes, sitting in the back of the class in case you fidget, and being creative with power points or projects are great strategies to use. Personally I like to listen to Mozart and other non vocal music while...

With one realizing their own learning style will not only convey which courses or subjects they are competent at, however will also enlighten them of the greatest active way of learning and reading for the areas of any subject. In 1987, Neil Fleming designed the VARK learning style assessment which is a questionnaire that has questions that which answered by a person will lead to four scores that gives up to five study strategies which are: Visual, Aural, Reading/write, and Kinesthetic (Fleming,2011). The way in which these scores add up informs a person where they fall within the five areas of learning strategies which is crucial to the education of every individual. This paper will elaborate in enormous fragment multimodal as the author took the VARK assessment and realized she is a multimodal learner. ...VARK Analysis Paper Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion March 1, 2015 VARK Analysis Paper Every Human Being is created differently and each one has their own unique way of learning and understanding information. Learning style is different for all individuals. Charles Bonwell and Neil Fleming introduced VARK model to categorize learning styles for everyone. VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. People use different styles to learn in different situations depending on the subjects they are learning. Most people use a combination of learning style called multimodal style of learning. VARK provides people with an indication of their learning preference. There are seminars and workshops to develop skills and improve learning. This paper explains the different types of learning styles and how it can help and influence a person’s learning and understanding. My Learning Preferences My learning preference is Multimodal way of learning. In fact 60% of people prefer this way of learning style and it is one of the most used way of learning styles .while others can effectively learn using any single one of the multiple preferences. Multimodal style learning uses two or more strong preferences. This style of learning or teaching makes the learner easy to understand and capture the attention easier and make it interesting to learn. Also multimodal style can help develop better ability to learn and speed up the understanding. Strategies...

...the Identified Learning Style The Visual (Spatial) Learning Style is one of the identified learning styles according to the Vark Questionnaire. This style prefers the use of images, colors and pictures as visual aids to convey information to others. The visual learner has a good sense of direction, can visualize objects easily and have a good spatial sense. (Merriam Webster dictionary) defines Spatial as relating to, occupying or having the character of space. This helps the learner to reorganize and group comparable ideas easily, and to pay attention to meaning. Visual learners may likely use phrases like “let’s look at it differently or see how this works for you”. The story technique helps the visual learner to memorize content Next learning style according to Vark Questionnaire is Aural. This style likes noise and music and has rhythm. The Aural learner is a good listener and speaker. The learner here understands lectures better in group discussions through listening and speaking. The method of study here is use of repetition approach and gains from using mnemonic technique. The individual here assimilate and retain information linked to noise and sound rather than images. Another identified learning style is Kinesthetic which is more physical or hands-on process. This learner likes physical activity like sports and can’t sit quiet, likes to move around and practical rather than watching a presentation or listening to the teacher. The kinesthetic learner derives...

...Analysis Paper In this paper, the VARK Questionnaire will be explored as it relates to individual learning methods. The VARK questionnaire (Fleming, 2001) was chosen for two reasons, scores can be reached quickly and the provision of help sheets assists students to use their knowledge of learning styles. VARK stands for: visual, aura, read/write and kinesthetic. Fleming and Mills (1992) suggested four modalities that seemed to reflect the experiences of the students and teachers. Through the use of the VARK Questionnaire personal learning styles are predicted and suggestions are made as to which work best for each learner. Depending on the person, there may be one method that works particularly well or a mix of all of the methods may meet your individual needs. Multimodal learning indicates the learner prefers more than one style to retain information. The VARK Questionnaire provides a personal profile based on your results and suggestions to help when taking in new information. The personal learning profile report highlights your individual learning preferences and breaks down each category with suggested methods. Based on the personal learning profile received, it indicated the learner was multimodal. This indicates multiple preferences when taking in new information. The three highlighted preferences received were: Visual, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. Visual, meaning learning through the use of different formats designed to convey information. Diagrams, labeled charts and...

...Fleming’s model, also known as VARK learning styles, one has the ability to determine their learning preference. There are four learning preferences: auditory, visual, reading and writing and kinesthetic. After completing a questionnaire read and write is the highest score that was received. The read and write learner prefers to take in information that is text based. Read and write learners according to VARK analysis utilize strategies such as: lists, headings, dictionaries, glossaries, definitions, handouts, textbooks, readings, notes, teachers who utilize words well, teachers that include a lot of information in their sentences, notes, essays and manuals (Fleming, 2013). There is no comparison to the preferred learning strategies previously utilized and those that were identified on the VARK analysis tool. The over-abundance of a lecture tends to be tuned out and never has a textbook been read in its entirety even when it’s assigned reading. Though study guides have been used greatly throughout the years for their straight to the point bullets, or relevant small amounts of information. The multi model learner would be something that is more of comparison to the preferred learning strategy. Dependent upon the subject matter a learner may shift between if not two of the learning styles but all four. In a lab setting it is kinesthetic learning performing experiments and looking at things under a microscope. If in an art class then visually learning would take place. Medical terminology...

...VARK Analysis Every one has a mix of learning styles; some people may find that they have a dominant style of learning, with far less use of other styles in different circumstances. There is neither right or wrong style nor your style is fixed, you can develop your less dominant style and make improvement in your dominant ones. Your learning styles have more influence on your learning than you know it, they guide the way you learn. They also change the way you retain information and perceive experiences internally ("Overview of Learning Styles," n.d). Individuals have pathways that are specific to them, when information enters those pathways the information is retaining in short-term memory. Repeated exposure and use, promote retention in long-term memory. ("What Makes Perceptual Styles a Different Way of Learning." n.d) According to VARK questionnaire, I am a multimodal learner, who learns with two or more ways of learning, in my case I learn with (ARK) aural, means by listening, reading/writing, and kinesthetic, means using my other senses like manipulating and experimenting. Even though I learn, in so many different ways, my preferred style is to read and write and I use the other strategies as the additional support for my enhanced learning experience, which sounds very true because I like to read books and do some research before I attend class. I take notes in points, record the lecture on the recorder so I can hear it again. In addition, I learn by discussing with people...

...data or a new skill, more properly defined as the Kinesthetic Learning Style. Kinesthetic learning is one of four styles of learning. How does a student ascertain that they learn by kinesthetics? If so, how do they apply this learning style to their course material? It’s concerning to think that some students fail a class or, worse yet, fail to achieve their goal of earning a degree simply because their study format was not conducive to their person. SUMMARY According to Fleming & Mills (1992) the kinesthetic student learns by utilizing all their senses, hands on applications, and field trips as well as by trial and error. Once the kinesthetic student takes in the new information they construct notes which include pictures and examples. Finally, to prepare for an exam the student writes practice questions. Success or failure of the student largely depends upon the development of strategies to embrace their style of learning. STRATEGIES Educators, as a whole, attempt to incorporate a certain level of all learning styles in their lectures and course material. The student then has the opportunity to compile all the material into a package that is beneficial to them personally. Professor at Queens College Dr. Kenneth Dunn presents “if students cannot learn the way we teach them, then we must teach them the way they learn” (as cited in Reese, 2002, p.21). Since there will always be a fair amount of reading involved in learning, the student must develop a strategy to retain what...
