...The short story, “The Golden Touch” by author, Nathaniel Hawthorne and the poem, “King Midas” by Howard Moss both share the same concept of the King Midas myth. In contrast, the point of views as well as behaviors for not only King Midas, but his daughter, the princess, differ in the story and the poem. In “ The Golden Touch,” King Midas is displayed as impulsive, as he wasn't thinking or didn't have much thought about any of the effects that his wish is able to create. For example, Midas says he is tired of having trouble collecting his treasure and looking at his wealth being so small when he worked his best and later says, “ I wish everything that I touch to be turned to Gold.” What this means is that Midas made a wish only thinking for...

...the “The Golden Touch”, there is a similar theme which is “Be careful with what you desire for”. In these two stories, both of the main characters desired something more than what they could have. The theme “Be careful what you desire for,” is a qualified theme for the story, “The Fight”. One of the example was when the narrator was at one of his basketball games, all of the foolishness started after the narrator and his foe, Mike, elbowed each other in the chest. Then when narrator was walking down the sidewalk with his companion, he said that he could take down Mike anytime and anywhere, even though his rival was a lot heavier and three inches taller....

...In the Greek Myths several of the characters show us what they desire for, but it's not good for them. At the beginning of the story Midas, King Midas was described as a very rich and greedy man who loved gold more than anything. One day Midas had gotten the chance to wish for anything that he wanted. “Give me, he said to Dionysus suddenly, the power to turn all I touch to gold” (187). Midas was pleased with his new gift until he made a big mistake. Everything that he touched turned to gold, the stone became a lump of gold, the cups and dishes, he even had touched the table too by mishap, and even when he ate the bread that broke his teeth. As more and more things turn to gold he had gotten frightened, realizing that he wanted to take away the gift....

...started robbing banks or stealing expensive stuff. It would’ve been easy back then because it’d be way harder to get caught because how little technology they had. I read some poems about this topic but they were pretty useless because I don’t even remember how they talked about money and all that. One “poem” wasn’t even a poem, it more like a short story which was very boring. So instead I’m going to talk about some other stories I know. I’m pretty sure “The Golden Touch” is Greek mythology because I was in mythology in 9th grade. Anyways the story is about a king named Midas who is greedy and really loves gold so and somehow he is able to turn whatever he touches into gold which sounds pretty cool at first but then he tries to eat but it turns to gold so he can’t eat it. Then he touches his daughter and she turns to gold which sucks for him because the only thing he loves more than gold is his daughter so he’s like this sucks and somehow is able to lose the touch and turn his daughter back and he learns his lesson. The moral of the story is something like don’t be greedy because it’ll come back to bite you in the ass. I heard other kids talking about a story called “In La Rinconada, Peru Searching for Beauty” (or some stupidly long name like that.) I didn’t read it so I don’t know what it’s about but from what I heard it’s about treasure hunters looking for something that’s ugly or useless to most people but is special to them or something. I think the story...

...English Lit- Moon on the Tides Relationship Cluster Poems Booklet Ghazal Context Mimi Khalvati was born in Tehran and grew up on the Isle of Wight where she went to boarding school. She started to write poetry when she was looking after her children. She published her first collection in 1991 and she has been shortlisted for the TS Eliot poetry prize. A "ghazal" is an ancient Persian form of poetry, similar to a sonnet in that it is often part of a larger collection or sequence of poems. Khalvati's poem mentions a famous writer of ghazals called Rumi, who wrote a sequence to his close friend and spiritual inspiration Shamsuddin. Ghazals are often concerned with love and longing. Structure and language Structure Like traditional ghazals, this poem is made up of a sequence of two-line stanzas (or 'couplets'). The two lines of the couplets do not rhyme but the end of each couplet does, partly through the repetition of the word "me". Language Ghazal makes extensive use of metaphors to explore the relationship between the speaker and the one they love. Many of the metaphors present pairs of items or objects that complement each other, reflecting the way in which the speaker sees the relationship. In the second stanza the speaker describes the two sides of a relationship being like the "rhyme" and "refrain" (a repeated section of a poem, like a chorus). This metaphor suggests a sense of the two lovers being part of a larger whole. It also connects the two through...

But even Kroc could not have anticipated the astounding impact of his creation. McDonald’s is the basis of one of the most influential developments in contemporary society. Its reverberations extend far beyond its point of origin in the United States and in the fast-food business. It has influenced a wide range of undertakings, indeed the way of life, of a significant portion of the world. And having rebounded from some well-publicized economic difficulties, that impact is likely to expand at an accelerating rate in the early 21st century.1* However, this is not a book about McDonald’s, or even about the fastfood business,2 although both will be discussed frequently throughout these pages. I devote all this attention to McDonald’s (as well as to the industry of which it is a part and that it played such a key role in spawning) because it serves here as the major example of, and the paradigm for, a wide-ranging process I call McDonaldization3—that is, the process by which the principles of the fast-food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as of the rest of the world.4 * Notes may be found at the back of the book, beginning on page 233. 1 01-Ritzer5-45349.qxd 8/7/2007 1:07 PM ...

In this and the next chapter, we’ll study how companies develop and manage products and brands. Then, in the chapters that follow, we’ll look at pricing, distribution, and marketing communication tools. The product is usually the first and most basic marketing consideration. We start with a seemingly simple question: What is a product? As it turns out, the answer is not so simple. Chapter Preview 8 Products, Services, Building and Brands Customer Value Before starting into the chapter, let’s look at an interesting brand story. Marketing is all about building brands that connect deeply with customers. So, when you think about top brands, which ones pop up first? Perhaps traditional megabrands such as Coca-Cola, Nike, or McDonald’s come to mind. Or maybe a trendy tech brand such as Google or Facebook. But if we asked you to focus on sports entertainment, you’d probably name ESPN. When it comes to your life and sports, ESPN probably has it covered.
