...My Kitchen As I smell the aroma of brownie batter awaiting its trip to the oven, and the sizzling marinated chicken on the stove, I am reminded that my kitchen is the home to many of my memories that include everything from happy birthday dinners to troubled moments. Naturally, I gravitate towards my kitchen, because of its warm and cozy vibes. Not only is my kitchen a place where I am able to eat my worries away, but also a place where my mind is most capable. Whether I’m struggling with a math problem, or just need a place to release stress from a long day, my kitchen is always there. To the left, the large white refrigerator is the first piece of furniture that meets the eye. Across from what I have dubbed “the fridgerator” is the granite countertop that holds the sink and features a shiny metal paper towel roll. Catty cornered from the refrigerator is a stainless steel stove that, at closer inspection, reveals the wear and tear of many years of oil stains. The wooden pantry door holds an abundance of junk food, which my dad keeps thus stocked against my mother’s wishes. The other cabinets in the kitchen contain a large collection of pots and pans, as well as a plethora of unused electronic devices given as gifts throughout the years. The enormous dark brown kitchen table, which comfortably seats eight in a three-person house, is home to scattered paperwork and my over filled backpack. The table is surrounded by windows, which display a three hundred and sixty degree...

...* Always keep young children out of the kitchen while cooking and preparing meals. Institute a rule, no playing or running in the kitchen. If kids want to help with food preparation, make sure they are carefully supervised. * Don’t allow distractions while you are cooking. Don’t talk on the phone or go to another room while something is cooking. Keep your attention on what you are doing at all times. Don’t allow pots to boil over, baked dishes to burn and cause smoke or grease fires. If you have something cooking on very low heat for a long time, make sure to use a timer so you don’t forget when to return to cooking. * Be aware of spills on the kitchen floor that could cause someone to slip and fall. Mop up any spills immediately. * When cooking on the stove, always turn handles of pots and pans inward, so they don’t stick out. This is so that no one can accidentally knock a hot pan or pot off of the stovetop. * Keep the stovetop clean and clear of debris, grease, paper, or any objects that could potentially catch on fire. Periodically clean your oven of grease that could cause a fire. * Tie up loose hair, and roll up shirt sleeves so they don’t accidentally touch the stove or cooking pots. When preparing foods, take caution against burning yourself by putting your safety first: * Never taste by dipping your finger into food that is hot or cooking. Use a spoon, and let the food cool down first before tasting it. * Use a potholder or an oven mitt when...

...Teamwork In the Kitchen Teamwork in the kitchen is a basic requirement as it is the main key of successful performance for anyone who is, going to or will join this most important department of hospitality. The purpose of this essay is to explain the concept of teamwork and how it applies to kitchen environment. Also, examples of personal experience of teamwork in class are provided to illustrate its effectiveness as a way to achieve common goals. Dwyer (2013, p. 224) defines teamwork as a cooperative effort by the members of a group or team to achieve common goals and objectives. This means that in a team, all members need to contribute to the common effort communicate and help each other to achieve set goals. The characteristics of effective teams include having clear goals, results- driven structures, competent team members, collaborative climates, unified commitment, good communication, principle leadership, and internal and external support (Kayse, 2012). Teamwork is particularly important in the kitchen environment. In the kitchen, chefs are effectively team leaders who are responsible for organising the team to meet its goal(s), the quality of the team’s output, developing the team and the interface between the team and the organisation (Hardingham, 1995, pp.32-33). Carefully explaining goals to all kitchen staff and setting out all the standard requirements are some of the responsibilities of the chef. In the kitchen where different people...

...If you are designing a new clean tile kitchen or have plans to remodel your existing kitchen, your project will go over a lot smoother if you have a great plan in place ahead of time. First, decide on an overall theme or style for your kitchen. Choose between a modern, contemporary look, a country style, or something traditional. This can help you coordinate things like furniture, colors, appliances, tile flooring, and marble countertops, since not everything natural goes together. If you are unfamiliar with these styles, or want to generate more ideas, peruse some design magazines to see some samples. If you are unsure of what works together and what does not, consult a professional interior designer that can give you added insight. If...

...Make Green Delicious: Sustainability at Jamie Kennedy Kitchens What are the key challenges of designing a restaurant in a sustainable way? The Wine Bar generated the most profits for Jamie Kennedy Kitchens partly due to its attractive design. The Wine Bar had an open kitchen, where customers witness the organic ingredients used in the meal preparation. This design strategy attracted the younger segment as well as the professional clients. The design further incorporated the style of hand written menu lists and the architecture of the vineyard that stretched throughout the dining room. The restaurant has the feel of a complete food experience. When the customer enters into a Jamie Kennedy Kitchen restaurant, he/she could feel the excitement about the food experience at different levels. However the key challenge is the relocation of the restaurant to meet the environmental friendly objectives that can affect the geographic segmentation of targeted customers. Further efforts would be needed to address the relocation. Some of the strategies would include the incorporation of more value added products and communication to a broader audience base. Even if this decision took place, it would require Kennedy to offer more value added products, communicating with larger and different audience and catering for a broader range of sustainability. The change in the menu lists causes price list revision that can be a major additional cost to the business. Kennedy further wanted to relocate...

...California Pizza Kitchen Company Background: White-collar criminal defense attorneys Larry Flax and Rick Rosenfield in Beverly Hills, California created California Pizza Kitchen in 1985. Famously known for its hearth-baked barbecue-chicken pizza, the “designer pizza at off-the-rack prices” concept thrived. Over the last twenty years, the company has expanded into 213 locations in 28 states and 6 foreign countries. Although approximately 41% of the U.S. stores are located in California the business model has done well throughout all regions. California Pizza Kitchen derives its revenues from three sources: sales at company-owned stores, royalties from franchised restaurants, and royalties with a partnership with Kraft Foods to sell CPK-branded frozen pizzas in grocery stores. In 1996, CPK extended its brand with franchised ASAPS located in airports that offered a limited selection of pizzas and an assortment of “grab and go” sandwiches and salads. In 2000, CPK launched company owned ASAP locations as well. In 2007, CPK ceased development for any future ASAP locations to focus more on continued expansion of both domestic and international franchised locations. With the recent 10% share price decline, CPK is questioning whether this is an ideal time to repurchase shares and potentially leverage the company’s balance sheet with its prevailing line of credit. CPK is considering repurchasing shares and using debt financing to fund the strong expansion outlined for the company. In...

... Corey Hall 9/21/11 Jordan and I were playing hide and seek. He was seeking and I was hiding under my aunt's bed. I could hear my aunt calling for Jordan to come into the kitchen, so I followed him. Peeking around the corner, I could see a short, slim black women sitting in a chair at the kitchen table. When Jordan entered the kitchen she motioned for him to take a seat in the chair across from her. I could hear her asking him questions about his mom and things that had happened to him. They talked for about thirty minutes the she and my aunt exchanged words in private. Then my aunt turned to tell Jordan to get his belongings because he was going with the lady in the kitchen. I had a funny feeling the entire time the lady was talking to my cousin. I could tell something wasn’t right, because we never really have company and when we do they always tell us kids to go play. Today was different and I was scared of what would happen. As Jordan started to pack his things I started to cry. At the time I didn’t know why I was crying but it felt nesseccary. Once Jordan finished packing we took what seemed like the longest walk ever down the hall back to the kitchen where the lady was waiting to take my cousin away. "Ready to go?" Jordan didn’t respond he just turned around hugged me and said goodbye. I watched out of my grandparent’s window as the lady and my cousin disappeared down the porch into the dark...

...Christmas cookie event, because there probably was not mid-year cookie baking taking place. I hope Shelby holds on to our baking memories as she grows up. The beginning of this cooking fiasco is putting on the proper attire. There are two beige aprons that hang in our kitchen. A red and black swirl design screen printed on the front surrounds the word “Mommy” on mine, and “Me” on hers. They were a gift from one of Shelby’s schoolteachers. She typically hands me mine, we both put them on and she waits for me to tie hers behind her back. Shelby would cook every meal with me if I let her. Unfortunately, cooking with my child is not conducive to efficient meal preparation, or edible meals for that matter. Now that we are properly dressed, we collect all of our ingredients. We get from the pantry, the flour, white and brown sugar, salt, and baking soda. Then we open the refrigerator to get the eggs, and retrieve the vanilla from the spice rack. We set it all out on the gray Formica kitchen counter, get out all of our measuring cups and spoons, two large bowls, a spatula and the Kitchen Aid mixer. The mixer is housed in the pantry and collects dust until we are ready to bake cookies. The absurd weight of a Kitchen Aide Mixer, the lengthy clean up and...

...Johnny st.hilaire My Dream House Johnny st.hilaire My Dream House ` DREAM HOUSE My dream house, what would it be what would it look like it, and most important where will I build it. I like the countryside wide open areas, maybe farm lands with some animals. But I do like the city life with the nose, rude people, and heavy traffic on the high way. There is pros and cons to both environment, the countryside close to no air pollution, but less services you need to travel more to access services. The pros and cons of the city life more cultural opportunities, more diversity of people, more opportunities for higher education, better services like trash collection, water and sewer, cons more crime, more pollution, higher costs living. So as you can see I am little undecided about my dream house so. I am just going to explain two type of dream houses and locations one countryside and one in the city. First the city it would most likely be in Broward County a lake front home of course “I love water”. It would be 3 story house because it’s very hard to build full basements here. So one of the floors would be more like a half basement because the property will have a 3 car garage. The outside of the house would be a dark brown wood siding, and then a simple rock base that goes up about 1 feet on the house to give the old house effect. The side facing the water would be all glass so we can always look out to the gorgeous...

...The proposed acquisitions of California Pizza Kitchen and Carts of Colorado by Pepsico 1. Should PepsiCo buy California Pizza Kitchen? For both acquisitions it's more about what they add to PepsiCo, not what value PepsiCo adds to them Pros: - needs to acquire CPK to learn casual dining. That's where the growth is, and internal attempts to develop casual dining in Pizza Hut Cafe have failed. whether CPK is merely a passing yuppie fad, or if it is a long-term market segment doesn’t matter to PepsiCo if it merely wants to learn casual dining. - PepsiCo startups failing Cons: - possibly PepsiCo’s failure to develop a casual chain internally, along with the real differences between fast food and sit-down dining, will prevent it from succeeding. •New segment that PepsiCo doesn't know - Yuppie casual dining • $11 check, dinner on pizza dough - PepsiCo ignorant of key success factors •high level waiter service •PR not advertising key to marketing •capital cost $1 - $2m, sales $3m not $800k, $800k. •New untested concept - 25 restaurants, 8 states, $34m sales, $3/4m net income - may be a "fad" •only seven years old - may not stretch beyond Yuppiedom 2. Should they buy Carts of Colorado? Pros: - while CoC's $8m sales is very small for Pepsico, the real market size is the revenue from non-traditional PODs, and this is potentially enormous ($2 billion to PepsiCo alone) The real reason to own CoC is to preempt Coke and MacDonalds in the best locations...

...quickly being put to use. By 1915 Herbert’s 80 qt. mixer became much more of a standard use in kitchens on U.S. navy vessels and in many bakeries around the U.S. The only thing holding him back at this point from jumping into business was strictly because of WW1. But luckily by 1918, many company executives began to test these machines out in kitchens in American homes, so the popularity of the mixer began to rise. Not much later, the 5 qt. countertop mixer came into the picture. But high costs, each mixer costing about $189.50 (which today that be equivalent to about $2,000), led to not so many people rushing to buy the device. So about 10 years later a man by the name Egmont Ahrens, slimmed it down and cut the costs to about $55. I’m not quite sure how much that would be today. The Kitchen Aid mixer took a while to really get into the system. So a way that the company fixed this was by sending women door to door with the mixer, having them go into the private kitchens of homes kitchens and giving first hand demonstrations. This way of getting the product out, worked! Many attachments, used for a variety of different things, could be put on this mixer. Ranging from a pea splitter, to a meat grinder. And the attachments created in 1919, would still be able to fit into a brand new 2012 addition mixer. It has stayed somewhat the same for a whole entire lifetime. I own a kitchen aid. They should be common in every household, they are reasonably priced based on their durability...
