The Pursuit of Happiness
The pursuit of happiness is a known phrase, from The Declaration of Independence. The phrase are describing the rights for a person to take actions, that allow’s the person to pursue happiness. However the way a person pursues his happiness has for many decades been discussed, as this is where the individual's personal morality come into play.
So where is the limit for an individual's pursuit of happiness? Personally I think that you can pursue your own happiness as much as you want to, as long as you don’t intentionally damage other peoples happiness or break the law.
But that’s just my point of view, on the pursuit of happiness. Others have different views on the phrase, where some think it’s impossible to define the pursue of happiness.
The origin of the phrase comes from authors, such as John Locke. In his books he wrote “property” instead of “happiness”, until Thomas Jefferson replaced property with happiness, because happiness is a more general pursuit then property is.
I would say that the american dream is to an extent, the same as the pursuit of happiness. Because it’s all about improving the quality of life. However it can only be achieved through hard work and dedication, like Chris Gardner in the movie. As an individual you can feel that you deserve success in life as much as you want, but if you are not willing to work for it, you will never achieve it.
There are many different opinions on how success in life are viewed. Some are judging success by the number of there bank-account and others think that a person can be poor on money but rich on love. However different statics indicates that a persons economy has a lot to do with “happiness”.
