...UV0012 KOTA FIBRES, LTD. Ms. Pundir, the managing director and principal owner of Kota Fibres, Ltd., discovered the problem when she arrived at the parking lot of the company’s plant one morning in early January 2001. Trucks filled with rolls of fiber yarns were being unloaded, but they had been loaded just the night before and had been ready to depart that morning. The fiber was intended for customers who had been badgering Pundir to fill their orders in a timely manner. The government tax inspector, who was stationed at the company’s warehouse, would not clear the trucks for departure because the excise tax had not been paid. The tax inspector required a cash payment, but in seeking to draw funds for the excise tax that morning, Mr. Mehta, the bookkeeper, discovered that the company had overdrawn its bank account again—the third time in as many weeks. The truck drivers were independent contractors who refused to wait while the company and government settled their accounts. They cursed loudly as they unloaded the trucks. This shipment would not leave for at least another two days, and angry customers would no doubt require an explanation. Before granting a loan with which to pay the excise tax, the branch manager of the All-India Bank & Trust Company had requested a meeting with Pundir for the next day to discuss Kota’s financial condition and its plans for restoring the firm’s liquidity. Pundir told Mehta, “This cash problem is most vexing. I don’t understand it. We’re...

...Kotas or Kothar or Kov by self-designation are an ethnic group who are indigenous to the Nilgiris mountain range in Tamil Nadu, India. They are one of the many tribal or ethnic groups indigenous to the region. Others include Todas, Irulas and Kurumbas. Although all groups lived closely by and had intimate interactions, elaborate taboos were developed to maintain social distance and prestige. Todas and Kotas have been subject to intense anthropological, linguistic and genetic analysis since the early 19th century. Study of Todas and Kotas has also been influential in the development of the field of anthropology. Numerically Kotas have always been a small group not exceeding 1,500 individuals spread over seven villages for the last 150 years. They have maintained a lifestyle as a jack of all trades such as potters, agriculturalist, leather workers, carpenters, and black smiths and as musicians for other groups. Since the British colonial period they have availed themselves of educational facilities and have improved their socio-economic status and no longer depend on the traditional services provided to make a living. Some anthropologists have considered them to be a specialized caste as opposed to be a tribe or an ethnic group. Kotas have their own unique language that belongs to the Dravidian language family but diverged from South Dravidian sub family at some time in BCE. Their language was studied in detail by Murray Barnson Emeneau, a pioneer in the field of Dravidian linguistics...

...Case 9 Kota Fibers, Ltd. Kota Fibers, Ltd. was founded in Kota, India in 1962. Kota produced nylon to provide synthetic fiber yarns to local textile weavers. The synthetic fiber yarns were mainly used to make traditional women’s colorful dresses in India called the saris. One sari averaged eight yards of fabric. Indian women usually purchased three saris every year. India’s female population is around 500 million, with a demand for saris accounting for more than twelve billion yards of fabric and a stable business. The demand was being supplied by domestic textile mills that fulfilled their yarn requirements from suppliers like Kota Fibers. Kota used new technology and domestic raw materials to produce their quality product. Demand for synthetic textiles was characterized by a stable year to year growth with fluctuation based on special Indian festivals and celebrations. The most important festival was the Diwali celebration in mid-autumn, which made a seasonal peak in demand for new saris. Therefore, mid-summer was the seasonal peak demand for nylon yarn from Kota. Unit industry growth was expected to be 15% per year. Consumers purchased their saris from cloth merchants located all around the country. Cloth merchants were important local figures that were well known to the area residents who granted credit in order to support their sales. The suppliers were very competitive in order to keep the merchant’s business. The suppliers were aggressive in price, service, and credit...

...KOTA FIBRES What does the forecast show? Do you like how it is constructed? The company has projected gross sales to reach 90.9 million rupees in 2001, an forecasted growth of approximately 15 million rupees over the previous year. In spite of the large increase, there are several additional financial factors which need to be taken into account in evaluating the forecast. For instance, Total asset turnover gives an understanding of the efficiency with which the firm uses its assets to generate sales. Total Asset Turnover in this particular case is suboptimal at best. In 2000, Kota had a total asset turnover ratio of .18, with a ratio value of .17 in projected for 2001. This shows major inefficiencies in the management of assets by the company, as it only turns its assets over .18 times a year. They may want to increase this ratio number by increasing their amount of total assets. Kota Fibres as a company (as far as its financial statements are concerned) is very capable of satisfying its short-term obligations as they come due. With a current ratio of 3.24 and quick ratio of 2.38, Kota is operating within acceptable levels (acceptable values are 2.0 and 1.0, respectively). However, the forecasted ratio for 2001 shows that this ratio drops to 1.5:1, which is below the acceptable level of 2.0 set for a manufacturing firm. This means they will have some problem paying their bills on time with the projected production and sales levels. Kota Fibres, in 2000, had a quick ratio...

...City Living and Transportation… In pursuit to making Kota Kinabalu city a livable place. Part 1 Buses has been the main mode of public transportation in the city of Kota Kinabalu. We are talking about the scheduled bus services, the mini buses and taxis that had been allowed to ferry passengers. Despite being perceived as less comfortable, less physically attractive, the buses are still the main mode to function as carriers to bring passengers to their destinations. This article aims to provide an overview of the status and its importance to the majority of the commuters in making Kota Kinabalu city a livable place. It is crucial to identify the reason why bus has not become a popular mean in attracting and providing community commuting service to the city transportation since this information is a useful input to the policy maker. The reasons are linked to several issues such as public bus current level of performance, increasing number of private vehicle on road and the absence of specific plan and policy as well as enforcement follow ups to improve public bus transportation. Observation shows that public transportation by bus is an important mode of public transportation in Kota Kinabalu and would continue to be so in the future due to the demand from the lower income earners. Therefore, the government should seriously consider the buses and other similar mode like trams in the public transportation planning by providing specific plan for its future development and the will...

...Employee's rewards ukessays.com /dissertations/management/employees-rewards.php CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.0 Overview In any organization, employee's rewards usually given to attract, motivate and retain the employees to stay longer and contribute a good quality services to ensure the successful of the organization; in other words, rewards play an important role in creating, building and maintaining the commitment among employees with the purpose to ensure high standard of performances and workforce stability. According to the individual - organizational exchange theme, individuals enter the organization with special qualification and skill, desire and goals, and expect in return a work setting where they can use their skill, satisfy their desire, and achieve their goals (Mottaz, 1988). At the minimum, employees expect their organization to provide fair pay, safe working condition, and fair treatment. (Beer, Spector, Lawrence, Mills, & Walton, 1984). It simply implies that employees offer or increase their commitment when organization meets employees' expectation regarding fulfillment of their important needs. Thus, the exchange perspective explains organizational commitment as a function of work rewards and work values (Lambert, 2000; Mottazz, 1988), and suggests the importance of work rewards for continuously encouraging employees. According to exchange theory and reciprocity norm, employees repay the rewards received from organization through increase commitment to the organization...

...1.0 INTRODUCTION 2.1 THE NATURE OF MARKETING Marketing is understanding the needs of the situation, and the way resources and people can be applied to it, and then reacting appropriately, as opposed to following a formula. To put it simple, marketing is a process cycle as follows: i) Customer buys or potential customer is contacted. ii) Finding out how the customer liked the product or what is needed. iii) Analyzing these data and creating a plan that includes goals and strategy. iv) Implement the plan which results in the customer’s buying the product. v) Repeating the cycle starting with step (i) to make a better product sold with a better plan and continuously keeping this cycle going. 2.2 VALUE OF PRODUCT The value of a product may be conceptualized as the relationship between the consumers’ perceived benefits in relation to the perceived costs of receiving these benefits. Value = Benefit / Cost Value is thus subjective (i.e, a function of consumer’s estimation) and relational (i.e, both benefits and cost must be positive values). 2.3 VALUE PROPOSITION DEFINITION Value proposition is a powerful succinct statement that will: i) Describe how you are unique, and therefore differentiate you and your product/service from your competitors in your market. ii) Resonate directly to the company brand – yours and your prospects. iii) Give you insight about how to effectively market your product/service. This statement...

...Summer Mall is the place of pleasure that focus on people around Kota Samarahan. The number of consumers that usually go to Summer Mall is teenagers and working people. If I work as the management of Summer Mall, Kota Samarahan, I would suggest to increase the number of games and arcade in the Summer Mall that would be age appropriate for teenagers around 15-25 years old. The current arcade at Summer Mall is focus for children. This is so that children can stay there while the guardian can shop without worries. If the arcade would focus on teenagers too this evokes pleasure in teenage consumers. Therefore they would prefer to stay and enjoy more of the shopping experience when at the Summer Mall. Moreover, I would suggest to create a health club inside the Summer Mall, inside the health club will include spa, massage, manicure and pedicure and gym. This is focus for the working people. They would be busy during their hard days of work, therefore, whenever they come to Summer Mall, they can relax and reduce their stress of work and more enjoy their shopping experience in Summer Mall without feeling tired from everyday work. Summer Mall building is itself shown for a place of fun and excitement. The colors of the buildings are full of bright color to invoke feelings of enjoyment. I would also suggest every week would hold a weekly event of fun and enjoyment for people of any kind of age. This would be family oriented thus promote families to come to Summer Mall and enjoy the event...

...In the evening of February-17-2011 approximately 3pm, our lecturer, Mr. Alan, invited a special guess who is going to give a talk about effective communication, Ms Jasmine Leong. First and for most, she is the group executive manager of IEC and also a toastmaster from KK Toastmasters Club. The club will specially train people to speak well as well as improve one’s language. The members whom train always speak and comment at the same time. This is because everyone gets the chance to speak and when other speaker speaks, you can analyze their mistake for further improvement. Furthermore, I have learnt that there are three major importances when it involves public speaking, there are tone, language and body language. Most of these three actions cover up the overall percentage of a person’s performance. She is here to introduce us the important of communication which is public speaking. I have never known that public speaking is the top two of fear which all human beings fear until she told us. It looks like nowadays we youngster have not yet realize how important it is yet, but still death is placed at top one of fear. I underestimated the use of public speaking once, as I thought that it is something we can learn it very fast. But I was wrong, with the lessons, as an assignment, given to each student as each has to talk for at least two minutes, topics are given on stage. Seriously, outside of that particular room, you can blab that two minutes will pass indeed fast but inside...
