...legend; a rumor or a hoax. There are many things here in New Mexico that are considered to be a myth. We are home to thousands of Hispanics. There are many "myths" here in New Mexico about Chupacabras – which are literally translated as "goat-sucker", from chupar ("to suck") and cabra ("goat"). Wikipedia, (2015). We have much livestock here in New Mexico and purportedly, some of them were often times found dead with no blood left and three holes that were punctured in their chests – just one of the stories of this area; and a story that was brought over from Puerto Rico, where it originated. Another myth that is told to our children here is the tale of La Llorona – The Weeping Woman. This tale has been told to children for hundreds of years and is used to frighten children and to discourage them from going into the dark alone as La Llorona might snatch them up and never return them. In contrast, myths of old were used to explain things that the...

...Mega-Tsunamis: The Oceans Deadliest Weapon Every single minute of every passing hour, our oceans have the potential to cause catastrophic damage and disaster. With its vast beauty and bountiful resources, the wild ocean comes with a handful of rare geological time-bombs. Once unleashed, they can create an extravagant phenomenon. Gigantic mega-tsunami form, these giant waves are able to cross oceans and demolish cities and countries on the opposite side of the earth. Thanks to modern technology and globalization, we have been able to capture some of the more recent tsunamis and their destruction. For example, the footage of the destruction of the tsunami that caught Japan by surprise in 2011 shook the whole world and brought awareness and respect to the ocean and its potential fury. This was just a typical tsunami, it reached Japan at about 33 feet, and caused extreme destruction along the coast. This example was just a small ripple compared to what our ocean could generate. Our ocean has the potential to generate mega-tsunamis over a mile high, hence the name “Mega-Tsunamis”. If a mega-tsunami of this magnitude were to take place, tens of millions of lives would be eliminated, countries could be reshaped, and civilizations would be whipped out for ever. Typical tsunamis are waves or series of waves that can span hundreds of miles across the ocean and reach about 30 meters (100 feet). These typical waves are usually generated from movement on the bottom of the seafloor caused...

...fact this movie, a movie about the happenings of the trial after a slave mutiny aboard a Spanish transatlantic slave ship, contains a protagonist that was neither aboard the ship, nor is he black. The other protagonist in the movie was a slave on the ship, and a good portion of the movie depicted his plight both during the mutiny and during the trial that made the audience want to be on his side throughout the film. There is no clear cut antagonist in this film. Is it the nation of Spain who wants its “property” back? Could it be the two Spaniards that were the only surviving “victims” of the mutiny? Or better yet could it be the finders of the ship La Amistad? No, in fact the antagonist is actually an establishment. The first thirty minutes or so of Amistad starts out with the mutiny that takes place aboard the ship La Amistad. This dramatic scene shows vivid detail in attempt to bring the audience into the realm of the ship. Here the audience is introduced to Cinque, the leader of his tribe, who in the opening moments of the film uses his bloody hands to meticulously pick the lock to his shackles during a mid-ocean storm. It starts with the sweaty face of an obviously African man working on something difficult. As the screen pans out, the audience can then see him picking the wood around a spike that is locking his shackles into the timber. It is thundering what seems to be right overhead, and every time it lightnings, the audience sees his face more vividly. After...
