December Holidays Christmas is a holiday that is celebrated by many across the globe. A large portion of Americans celebrate this holiday. Families usually gather around the special Christmas tree singing songs, eating various delicious holiday dishes, checking on the stockings hung up by the warm, well-lit fireplace, and tearing upon presents gifted by either Santa, friends, or family. Many children in America know of a jolly ol’ man named Santa. Santa Claus, or Saint Nick, is a Christmas legend that is very popular in America. It is told that Santa gives nice children presents, and naughty children gets a lump of coal. These are traditions done by families who celebrate Christmas, but what about families who celebrate from different places in the world? Well, they …show more content…
It consists of Pere Noel and La Pere Fouettard. Pere Noel is a character that closely resembles Santa Claus. Accompanied by Pere Noel is La Pere Fouettard, a man dressed in black, that is feared by children to make them behave. On December 5th, the pair goes from building to building being transported by a donkey named Gui. Pere Noel leaves presents for children in their empty shoes, while La Pere Fouettard distributes whippings among the naughty children.
Father Christmas is a legend that is known by many countries. Father Christmas is indeed not Santa Claus for he has slightly different gift-giving methods, appearance, and location (depending on which country). In the beginning, Father Christmas was known as a spirit of good tidings. Later, he became to be known as a gift-giver. There are many religions or ethnicities that celebrate holidays in December. Some holidays focus on religious meanings and others observe the winter solstice. Holidays such as Festivus are made up, parodies of Christmas, that people enjoy celebrating. Even though there are various holidays being celebrated, they still bring joy to children and families
