...Assessment of Non-acute Health and Social Services in Ponchatoula, Louisiana Laura K. Ogden Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences School of Nursing NLAB 334 October 29, 2014 Assessment of Non-acute Health and Social Services in Ponchatoula, Louisiana The community assessed was Ponchatoula, Louisiana. The focus of the assessment was non-acute health and social services. The community-as-partner model was used as a guide in understanding how the different parts of Ponchatoula’s community make up its core, and to apply the steps of the nursing process (Anderson and McFarlane, 2011). The assessment was based on observations of the community, interview data from a nursing home director, and selected published data related to the healthcare and social services assessed. Assessment data was analyzed, and conclusions and inferences drawn from the analysis will be presented in the paper. Windshield Survey On October 28th at approximately 4:00 pm an observation of Ponchatoula was conducted while driving through the city’s limits. This survey was done to acquire an overall health assessment of Ponchatoula’s environment including buildings and people out and about. The city itself appeared dated as evidenced by the architecture, especially on E. Pine St. However, for being the age they are, the buildings appeared well kept with clean paint jobs. Sidewalks lined each side of E....

...A ban that disallowed teachers and students to be "friends" on Facebook and most other online networking sites will remain in place under an updated social media policy the School Committee is slated to take up Tuesday. Meanwhile, an accompanying new acceptable-use policy will expand guidelines for ways that students, staff and other school employees may use the Internet in city school. The revamped policies are going to be designed to be more current with today's technology and social media/Internet practices. "Some teachers have had a great deal of success engaging students through electronic means and we want to accommodate that success where possible", said School Committee member LaDonna Crow. Many other area school districts are in the process of updating policies covering online networking, including Belchertown, Hampshire Regional, Northampton and Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School. In the Hadley schools, a policy adopted in April prohibited teachers and students from being "friends" on social networking sites other than those approved by the district. Easthampton's social media policy takes a similar approach, stating that school staff may not list current students as "friends" on networking sites unless the sites are hosted or approved by the school district. The previous ban referred only to teachers. The proposed policy stated that all "e-contacts with students" should be made through the district's computer and telephone system, except...

...Brooke Ford Business 82 Final Project 7 April 2013 The King of Beverages It's the “Friendly Pepper Upper”, “Always One of a Kind”, and “Just What the Doctor Ordered”. Being the oldest major manufactured soft drink in America (History of Dr Pepper), Dr Pepper is all of those past slogans, and more. It's the greatest soft drink on the planet, and it will stand the test of time. Dr Pepper has come a long way from Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas back in 1885. According to the Dr Pepper Museum website, under “History of Dr Pepper”, the inventor was Charles Alderton, who was a young pharmacist working in the drug store. In his spare time, he had a hobby of mixing carbonated beverages for customers. Apparently, he loved the smell of the drug store so much, with all the fruit flavored smells in the air, that he wanted to create a carbonated drink that captured the scent of the store. After a few tests, Alderton finally became satisfied with his flavor, and offered a sample to his boss, Wade Morrison, who loved it. Alderton soon became confident enough to offer his new drink to his customers, who, in return, offered positive feedback. Dr Pepper officially became a soft drink on December 1, 1885 (History of Dr Pepper). While Morrison is credited as given Dr Pepper the name, the meaning behind the name remains a mystery with a lot of theories. One theory is that Morrison named the drink after his friend, Dr. Charles T. Pepper. There is a legend that Morrison...

...Howard Hewett, Al Green, Peabo Bryson, and many other balladeers were all famous for wooing females on stage. But, there was only one who could hold an all-female only concert; Theodore Pendergrass. The world came to know him as, Teddy Pendergrass or more affectionately “Teddy Bear”. He first became popular when singing with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes in the 70’s. He was badly injured in an automobile accident and paralyzed from waist down. He lived 25 years after his injury; which is not normally consistent with an injury of this type. He later died of complications of a colon cancer surgery. I would like to discuss his triumphs of accusations of drug abuse, struggling to become an international artist, and dealing with being a paraplegic. Come with me as I take a walk down memory lane of Balladeer; Teddy Pendergrass. Pendergrass was born Theodore DeReese Pendergrass in Philadelphia on March 26, 1950. He was an only child. Pendergrass’s mom had six miscarriages before giving birth to him; all of them were boys. His parents were Jesse Pendergrass and Ida Geraldine Epps. Pendergrass parents separated when he was very young. Jessie Pendergrass was killed later; Teddy was only 12 years old. Pendergrass was a student at Thomas Edison High; which was an all-boys school. Before dropping out in the 11th grade; he was a member of the Edison Mastersingers. He decided to pursue a career in the music industry after dropping out. His first gig was a drummer with...

...LaDonna Williams Axia College, University Of Phoenix HCA 270 The Accrual basis of accounting is mostly used by profit-oriented organization, accrual basis is a method of accounting, which provides information that accounts are prepared with the financial transactions that are accrued. It says that under this system revenues and expenses should be recognized and reported for the accounting period in which their economic substance is realized not when they got them or paid for in cash. Revenues are realized when earned whether or not they are received in cash. Incurred expenses are matched, to related revenues. It doesn’t matter if they or not such expenses are actually paid in cash. This means that credit sales from 2010 will become part of the final accounts of 2010 even if they don’t get the cash in late February 2011. We all know that utility bills are billed a month after the service has been used. You usually pay your gas bill for November in the month of December. So what will happen is if a business has a year end of December you will most likely pay December’s bill in January. Although it is still unpaid it is a part of 2010’s statement as an accrual. This method of accounting gives a better picture of what we are earning by including both cash and non-cash items when it comes to calculating profit. When calculating profit the accrual does not only take the actual eleven months electricity bill it also includes the one month bill that hasn’t been paid, but the business...

...Effective Listening Strategies Paper LaDonna Landry BSHS 385 Audra Stinson June 15, 2015 Effective Listening Strategies Paper Thinking and acting in ways that connect you to a person that is speaking is attentive listening. The benefits of listening are codependent and synergistic not many people are attentive listeners but if they can possess the skill of listening there are many benefits. Some benefits are respect, airtime, information, increased likability, better relationship and clarity. When you are giving you full listening attention you are showing respect and in turn gain the respect of the speaker. If you listen first to the speaker usually the speaker will return the favor. I say usually because it depends upon the individual and what may be going on with them such as self-absorption, stress or other reason that they might not lend their ear as the listener has done. Attentive listening helps to get information so that you can learn more about the person. The more you know about the individual the more you can do to assist them. People like to be listened to the more you listen to people the more you like them and the more you listen to the person talking the more they began to like you just for the fact that you listened. Listening creates a feeling of goodwill in relationships. If you are to listen to others problems non-judgmentally this gives the individual a chance to hear themselves and possibly find their own solution to their problem. Listening...

...things can be linked back to parenting or lack of parenting. Much of the research I have done talks about family influences on delinquency. However in many cases I think that family is really being used to talk about parenting. In an article about family structure 1 I found discussion of single family households and their likelihood for creating delinquents. But when I look harder I find that it is the parenting or the challenges that single parents face that leads to the delinquency. So in this paper I will try and show that it doesn’t matter what kind of family structure you have it is the parenting you have within that structure that influences child delinquency rates. The textbook references work done by Bruce Wolford and LaDonna Koebel that indicates that chronic underachievers in school are among the most likely to be delinquent. There are lots of additional studies that show how poor academic performance relates to delinquency. What is harder to address is the parent’s role in these academic failures. Involved parents can significantly improve a child’s performance in school. Even parents that didn’t do well in school can help their children succeed by paying attention to school work, providing structured time to do homework and study, and by staying in communication with the teachers or school. Parents that did well in school have an even greater opportunity to support their children because they provide addition instruction in areas where a child may be...

...Running head: Consensual Relationship Contract Leadership and Organizational Behavior-BUS 520 LaDonna Oliver Instuctor: Dr. Elizabeth Strayer University July 19, 2012 Abstract With employees spending more time together in the workplace, consensual relationships are becoming more common in the workplace. This workplace romance has caused major concerns for companies and their human resource professionals. This ongoing behavior has existed many decades and is becoming more prevalent in the workplace. According to a survey by Vault.com,47 percent of 1000 professionals survey had been involved in an office romance, and another 19 percent would consider it (Hellriegel, Slocum 2009) Michelle and Barack Obama, Bill and Melinda Gates, Olivia Chow and the late Jack Layton are a few of the many employees who met in the work place and later married. The workplace continues to be the foundation of which many healthy relationships are established, yet those relationships gone badly have resulted in consequence for the employee as well the employer, whereas costly and timely claims of sexual harassment cost employers millions of dollars. Scandals such as Charles Thomas/Anita Hill, Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinski, and Joe Patrino/Jessica Dorrell just to name a few have tainted the ethic culture of the workplace. In an effort to reduce romance in the workplace, an increasing numbers of employers are instituting consensual relationship...

...LaDonna Martin HRM 594 9/9/13 Case Study 1 After reviewing Tanglewood’s Case study, there are many given opportunities throughout the different staffing levels. Tanglewood has overall drifted from the original mission of the company. Although, Tanglewood has grown tremendously in the past years, there is still certain procedure that still needs to be addressed and fixed to ensure Tanglewood is on the path of success with staffing. I will begin with evaluating the thirteen levels of staffing and the four levels of staffing qualities to help based upon the best decision regarding Tanglewood. Acquire or Develop Talent After, reading this case study, it is evident Tanglewood needs to acquire new talent. Tanglewood has urgency needs at this point with staffing. There are so many issues with the management levels. Tanglewood hasn’t been consistent with the management levels as far as not being consistent in how the original stores were built upon versus the additional stores built last. Every time new stores are founded, there have been changes in the management styles. So if Tanglewood acquires new talent, the new employees can bring their talents to the job. This way the new employees can come to the organization fully aware of the job position and wouldn’t need additional training. This would help with extra training since the new employees already have the skills. This method can insure a quick change and help maintain a solid productive workforce. The...

...Running head: GAP ANALYSIS: GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS Gap Analysis: Global Communications LaDonna Smith University of Phoenix Gap Analysis: Global Communications Global Communication has been under pressure to keep up with new technology that its competitors have been giving to consumers for a very long time through local and international markets. They are getting a lot of slack from their stockholders, whose shares have declined more than half in the last couple of years. Also, they are having the Union people stay on them for not treating their employees properly and fairly. Global Communication was not up front with its people and they are now in an up roar about the unethical acts of Global. They plan to go global in hopes that they can now compete with local markets and increase the value of their stock. Situation Analysis Issue and Opportunity Identification Global Communication eventually was faced with the problem of lower stock values, circumstances before hand caused this problem to happen. Not having the ability to keep up with modern technology was the key to Global Communication keeping up with its local markets. “In a world of increasing globalization and cultural diversity, organizations face new opportunities as well as communication challenges,” (McShane, S., & Von Glinow,M. p.78) Having the ability to go global and communicate well is very valuable to any company’s wealth. Being able to learn new ways of marketing new calling features...

...The Buck Stops Here: Not a Handout, a Hand Up Sharon Nakken Kaplan University CM220: College Composition ll Thousands of welfare investigators across the nation report that only about 2% - 3% of welfare cases involve fraud (Barron, 2012). That is such a small percentage. Could fraud on that small scale really be significant? After closer examination, the significance becomes much clearer. If 2% - 3% of welfare cases are fraudulent, that means between 785,000 to 1.2 million families are receiving welfare illegally (Barron, 2012). That ends up costing taxpayers between 9.0 – 13.5 billion dollars each year (Barron, 2012). That small percentage turns into a very large number of dollars spent annually on welfare recipients who should not be receiving these benefits (Barron, 2012). The welfare system in America today is once again in need of reform. Conditions such as mandatory drug testing, entry into an educational program, and strict time limits need to be placed on individuals who wish to receive welfare. In 2007 The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reported that 20% of families receiving welfare claimed to have used illegal drugs at least once in the last year, while 5% said they had an ongoing drug habit (Vitter, 2011). Some who oppose the random drug testing requirement say that it does nothing more than single out the poor and underprivileged. Deputy legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union, Vanita Gupta claims “Mandatory drug testing of those receiving...
