Ladybirds for Lunch
The story “Ladybirds for Lunch” written by Hanif Kureishi is a children’s story because we get the story from a childish view. When you read the story you kind of get an understanding of the childish behaviour and children’s point of views, e.g. “Theo had gathered a group of ladybirds in his hand and was intending to place them, for the afternoon, in a cardboard box, so the insects could party together”. This action is done in a kind way, Theo clearly just wants the ladybirds to have a bit of fun, and does not worry about the consequences the ladybirds have to take by being looked in a box, I do not even think the consequences have crossed his mind in contrast to an adult mind, where things are being more considered from different point of views, before the thoughts are put in action.
Another thing that also makes this story a children’s story, is the childish descriptions, e.g. when the boy’s mother has put her curlers in her hair, her hair is being described like this: “and her head looked like a bowl of pasta”. And when Mr and Mrs Binswangers are entering the garden they are being described like this: “Sabina’s jewellery jingle-jangled and her high heels punctured father’s new lawn, while Fraser’s confident voice boomed across the neighbourhood. They both wore sharp perfume which caused all flies in the vicinity to immediately become unconscious”. You can sense the childish imagination and how everything is seen with the eye of a child, I think that it is kind of funny the way children look at the norms of a grownup, they see their perfume as some kind op insect killer, and how the mother and father is running about laying the table when there are so many other more fun things to do. They do not see the importance in making a good impression.

Describe The Role Of Effective Communication In Children

...next. For example, at cleanup time she repeatedly ignored Uncle Jon’s messages to clean up and continued to play with the train tracks and the trains. I went up to her and asked her, “What was Uncle Jon’s message?” She ignored me and kept playing. Uncle Jon repeated the message and she continued to play. I asked her, “Did Uncle Jon say to cleanup or play? She responded with, “Play.” I said, “No, he said to cleanup.” Another friend who was also playing with the tracks began helping to clean up. E. finally put two pieces of track away. When the friend pushed the bucket under the table E. began crying because she wanted to push it under the table. I said, “G. was cleaning up, he pushed it under the table. Its time to get ready for lunch, let’s go to the bathroom and wash hands. E. refused, pulling her hands to her body and began crying for her mom. At this point I didn’t know what to do. I took the child who was ready for the bathroom to wash their hands and left her sitting by the train table. Uncle Jon gave her a hug and she came to the bathroom still teary eyed. I gave her a hug when she came to the bathroom. During nap I asked Uncle Jon if I was wrong to leave her sitting by herself. I felt concerned because I left her crying and after Uncle Jon gave her a hug she listened. I wondered if I was too impatient and insensitive at the time, maybe walking away from her was the wrong thing to do. Uncle Jon was observing me while I interacted with E. He suggested...

There have been many changes, additions, and improvements during this time. Adventurer Ministry has shown huge growth as well. Youngsters in this age group are full of energy and get excited about being a part of an organization that is designed to expand their view of their world and strengthen their relationship with God, Mom, and Dad through ways that are so much fun. The roof over Adventurer Ministry is supported by several strong pillars. You hold in your hands one of them: the latest updated manual covering all 83 currently accepted Awards for use around the world. There is of course, one small problem: This area of Adventurer fun is not a static field of possibilities, it is a constantly growing—maybe almost exploding—source of activity. Therefore even at the time of this edition’s printing, there are already more Awards being...

Theories of Learning

...Edward Lee Thorndike Assuming Thorndike's revised a law of effect to be valid, do you feel classroom practice in the United States is accordance with it? Child rearing practices? Explain. Thorndike's revised lot of the facts stated that reinforcement increases the strength of a connection, where as punishment does nothing to the strength of a connection (text). What this tells me is that when someone is stating their opinion and is encouraged or agreed-upon by others this exit him on to continue and gives them confidence in what they’re saying but if they do not get a positive response. When it comes to teachers in the class room, when the student gets an answer correct they tell them good job, when they get the answer wring they say good try but do not praise them like they would if they give them the correct answer. Some teach this way and some are very bunt to say not that is wrong. The same with parenting the parents are trying to always make their child feel good and at time they do not want to tell them that they are wrong in fear of hurting their feelings so they do not react at all. Discuss Thorndike's principle of belongingness and polarity. Thorndike's principles of belongingness and polarity basically states that when elements belong together it is easier to learn and retain them than elements that do not belong together (Pritchard,2009). For example, when a child or adult is reciting the alphabet they start with a and A with Z. If a child or adult was asked to...

...2012-2013 Daily Notes 9/10-9/14/12 --/--/--Monday, 9/10/12 Admin. Bldg - Collected handbooks and revised business cards to distribute to teachers and paraprofessionals. Discussed with Terrence about Sharp school switching our Hatch Smart board from another classroom and removing the big old computers from Ms. Daniel and Ms. Khair.  2pm - attended meeting called by Gladys regarding ECDC. Sharp School Ms. Daniel requested me to check out her classroom arrangement. Suggested - enclosed one side of the Block area so that it will not become a walkthrough traffic, make the Art area bigger so that the children have access to the art supplies, eventually adding quiet activities to the private area such as writing clipboard, books, puppets, a few manipulative toys, mirror, etc, place socket covers, and have small clear bins for the science materials. Ms. Khair asked me to look around her classroom to give her ideas. Suggestions - either unscrew the round table and hide it behind furniture, or use it for sand/water containers, place the sofa/couch in the Dramatic Play area against the wall so it won't fall over when the children sit or trip over, cover all the socket outlets, etc. Ms. Khair also asked about her technology requisition. --/--/--Tuesday, 9/11/12 Malandra Hall - Attended Principals' & Directors' meeting. Gladys needs teachers' names, emails, and site/schools for TSG. ECDC - Attended meeting other Ed. Specialists and PIRT called by the Principal, Dr....
