Lamar Odom and the events that have surrounded him as of late are a tragic Hollywood story that emphasizes the idea that celebrities are just as troubled as regular people. The story has been a widespread media topic and has been picked up by all types of media outlets ranging from television news, talk shows, newspapers, online news sites – i.e. Buzzfeed, and social media accounts – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Audience members interested in the story could attain the general concept of what happened to Lamar by just reading headlines, or by scrolling through social media and reading people’s 140 character take on the story. It originally had been believed that Odom overdosed on herbal Viagra but was later uncovered that it was possibly an overdose of cocaine and heroin. Lamar was unconscious for a couple of days and according to doctors had even suffered at least one stroke during that time, as well as kidney failure. However, after being in a coma for a couple of days Odom woke up and spoke for the first time on October 16th, and has been making a rapid recovery ever since. Ever since Lamar regained consciousness the news surrounding the events of his time at the Love Ranch brothel has been a whirlwind of speculation and claims made by sources reportedly close to the star. I mainly followed the story through online articles but tried to vary them across platforms and target audiences to give me a clearer picture of the events. I took articles from Buzzfeed, USA Today, CBSports, Yahoo Sports, the International Business Times, NBC news, and the Washington Times. I also watched for any mention of Lamar on the Kardashian/Jenner family’s social media accounts.
