...FINAL FANTASY CAPTURES LARA CROFT: ACQUISITIONS AND ALLIANCES IN ELECTRONIC GAMES Square Enix chose to make alliance in some occasions and acquisitions in others depending upon the needs and the situation of the game developer company. It is based on the environmental conditions in which the CEO thinks will work for the company best. In the presence of a stiff competition, it is a high urgency to expand since Square Enix’s goals could not be reached by focusing only in the current market. The easiest and better way is by acquisition. It’s not difficult to take control an acquired entity unlike in alliances. Acquisition of British Eidos Group Company enables Square to expand market internationally. In the other hand, valuation for acquisition on tangible asset like Eidos Group studio is easy. Moreover, it expands more markets outside Japan. Because of high level of uncertainty present in the new markets for instance in the US, it’s wiser to make ally with a stronger partner than to acquire the company and take the whole risk. Through this, Square may possibly attract and expand a new market with more confidence. Square Enix can also benefit by having access to different game markets from the allied companies. Depending upon the situation, sometimes acquisition let companies gain a wider access to geographical markets greater than alliance or do-it-yourself strategy. In some other instances alliance enables companies to share the potential risk and minimizes any chances...

...issue, with the most trending argument being that the portrayal of female video game characters, as well as the treatment of female gamers, is frequently sexist. One of the prominent literatures that keenly scrutinizes the culture of video games and its effect on the social construct is Maja Mikula’s essay “Gender and Videogames: The Political Valency of Lara Croft”. In her essay, Mikula accuses video games of poor portrayals of gender and being extraneously violent. She writes, “Her body is excessively feminine-her breasts are massive and very pert, her waist is tiny, her hips are rounded and she wears extremely tight clothing (9)… she is clearly shaped by the desire to embody male sexual fantasies… (15)”, questioning whether “Lara Croft is a (genuine) feminist icon or (mere) sexist fantasy” (181). On the flip side, Lara is also depicted as intelligent, articulate, strong, and defeats enemies who are largely male, and many video games enthusiasts would argue that Lara Croft is actually a symbol of strong independent women and a role model for women. To begin let’s first take a quick and brief overview of who Lara Croft is. Lara Croft is the...

...Virat Kohli set to beat Dhoni, Tendulkar in endorsement earnings Team India's batting sensation, Virat Kohli, has been a huge hit with the youngsters - thanks to his quick rise in the international cricket over the past few years. An eye candy for the domestic and international brands, the Delhi lad is all set to surpass the incumbent Indian skipper MS Dhoni and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar in the endorsement earnings. Team India's vice-captain, who seems to be the most comfortable young gun on screen, has reportedly signed a Rs.10-crore per year deal with German sports goods giant, Adidas. The 24-year-old cricketer will be seen endorsing Adidas' apparel and shoes as per his three-year contract. Sachin Tendulkar was the face of Adidas shoes for quite some time in India but it seems that the master blaster's age is finally catching up on his endorsements. According to the TOI reports, the right-hander has also struck a Rs.6.5 crore a year deal with a popular tyre brand that had Tendulkar and Steve Waugh as its ambassadors. The new deals will help Team India's probable future captain to beat the likes of MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar in terms of annual earnings per brand endorsement. With these two deals in his kitty, Kohli is set to take on the big players with an increase in his annual earnings from last year's Rs.40 crore in endorsements. He is currently the face of 13 brands including Pepsi, Toyota and Cinthol deodorants. The Indian skipper MS Dhoni...

...On March 6, 2016, 60 Minutes aired the interview of Lara Logan with Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada. He claims that to gain a liberal threshold for his country, he needs to maintain an openness nationwide. Specifically he claims that by making and sustaining a respectful relationship with neighboring countries, it would help tame the growing wall of alienation, unease, and anger that restrict political relationships; and may, consequently, null the hostility the world has been so accustomed to. As Trudeau said, “Ultimately, being open and respectful towards each other is much more powerful as a way to diffuse hatred and anger than, you know, layering on, you know, big walls and oppressive policies.” A specific example he refers...

...English 100, Section 6 Unexpected Success, Unexpected Effects In the profile “Rural Idaho Town Seeks to Turn Film’s Cult Status into Prosperity” by Laura Holson, she shows the impact that a movie can have on a town. The movie is Napoleon Dynamite, and the town is Preston, Idaho. Throughout this profile, Holson tells the reader about a Napoleon Dynamite festival held in the small Idaho town the movie was filmed in. Some examples are given as to the events held at the festival such as the Napoleon look-alike contest, or the tater tot eating contest. Many of these contests and activities help people bring out their so called, “inner Napoleon” (Holson 162). Holson is able to illustrate the impact the Napoleon Dynamite festival had on the town and the people of Preston, while organizing the piece effectively. One point that is addressed by Holson is how the town is affected by the Napoleon Dynamite festival. The title addresses this point when she says the “rural Idaho town” (Holson 161). After her short story about the festival, Holson immediately jumps into how the town is effected. Holson states that “more than 300 people traveled from as far away as California and Connecticut for the chance to embrace their own inner Napoleon” (Holson 162). She also gives another example of how a movie can impact a town. Holson mentions Field of Dreams, which turned a small town in Iowa to someplace that is visited by over 65,000 people a year. Holson continues to show how the...

She even had a favourite lizard, called Vladimir. Later she was a student at Beverly Hills High School far from being beautiful. She wore braces, glasses and was painfully skinny. So the students teased her but they didn’t know that she had an impressive collection of knives. Her movie career At the age of seven she appeared in her first movie but her breakthrough came with Girl, Interrupted. It followed her big hit: her role in Tomb Raider, where she had to master a British accent. She had to become familiar with kick-boxing, street-fighting, yoga and ballet. ...Lara is a short form of Larisa, which means “citadel”. The definition of citadel is a fortress protecting or dominating a city or area, typically from a high ground. The meaning of the name doesn’t fit Lara very well. Lara is more of a caring and big-hearted person than a protecting or dominating person. Lara really likes Miles, and Miles knows but is stuck in a love triangle with Alaska and Lara. Lara is more similar to Miles, being not a talker but a thinker. "I'll be een my room eef you want to come by." I did not drop by. I didn't know what to say to her—I was caught in a love triangle with one dead side.” (Green 180). Lara is also from Romania, explaining why her i’s sound like e’s. This shows that Lara is more of the caring and understanding type of person....

By now you've probably heard of Alibaba, the Chinese Internet giant that's able to reach millions upon millions of previously unreachable Chinese consumers. The company went public this month on the New York Stock Exchange and became one of the most valuable in the world and Alibaba is just getting started. Everything about the Alibaba story is unconventional. Beginning with its founder, Jack Ma, who gained global celebrity status these past 10 days, as his image became ubiquitous on business news channels and media outlets across America. We got to know Jack Ma before the onslaught, beginning over a year ago in China, where he talked with us about his relationship with the Chinese government, and his unorthodox business philosophy, which surprisingly, gives shareholders almost no say over how he runs the company. Jack Ma: If you want to invest in us, we believe customer number one, employee number two, shareholder number three. If they don't want to buy that, that's fine. If they regret, they can sell us. Lara Logan: In the U.S., the shareholder is usually first. Jack Ma: Yeah. And I think they were wrong. The shareholder, good. I respect them. But they're the third. Because you've take care of the customer, take care of the employees, shareholder will be taken care of. Ma's unconventional view didn't stop Wall Street from pouring...
