Market Research

...module and what you learned in Cameron and Larson critique the Questionnaire (section 5). How complete is it? How useful would it be for narrowing down countries? What would its recommendation be for Cameron on Australia? France? UK? What would its recommendation be for Larson re Nigeria? If you do another module write up your key learning from it and how it would have helped in the cases we have done to date. 2. How effective for you is the hybrid learning approach? How this does mixed approach (some classes live and some using online materials like this) appeal to you? Would it enhance or detract from your learning process? 1. The questionnaire for the global edge site is one of the most complete I read until this moment on the market research and entry. It includes questions regarding the country’s backroud, the economy, government and miscellaneous. Also includes questions regarding the industry, the standards of the industry, the products produce there, the market structure and the future trends of the industry. There are questions regarding the way to use media sources, the distributors channels and the customers and of course questions regarding the competition. When you want to internationalize your business is necessary to do this kind of market research and comparisons between countries’ to have good results. If you don’t do it and you rely on guts feels, can lose a lot of money. For example if you want to go in Nigeria, and you must use air shipment you cannot...

Inf 336 Final

...The importance of Purchase and Supply management INF 336 Instructor: Lori Deere In my time of jobs, I’ve had some experience of dealing with projects, vendors (suppliers) and some of the business. When I worked for Whole Foods, I dealt with different vendors and dabbed in some of the project aspect of the work. In later time, I became the bulk buyer and got more involved. At that time I really didn’t know how vital purchasing and supply management were in business. In an organization, buying supplies and keeping them in order is very important to help the business run correct. For this paper, I’ll discuss the aspects of purchasing and supply management and why it’s important. It will go over some of the important parts with explanation. In the process, I’ll do my best to give examples from my past experiences and other examples. SO that being stated, let’s go into what exactly is purchasing and supply management. “Supply management is focused on the acquisition process recognizing the supply chain and organizational contexts” (Johnson, P. F., Leenders, M. R., & Flynn, A. E. 2010). Purchasing and supply management is a complex matter that requires more than what most think. It’s stated that there is no easy way to organize the functions of supply, integrate suppliers correctly, and conduct the activities involved. It’s actually more of challenge of anything. In addition, each organization needs its own unique method. “It is also challenging because every supply...

Commodity Swaps

...POLICY RESEARCH WORKING PAPER 1667 Dealing with Commodity Price Uncertainty Plantos Varangis Dont Larson Market liberalization has increased the appeal of commodity derivative instruments (such as futures, options, swaps, and commodity-linked notes)as a means of managing price uncertainty. many In emerging countries both government and the private sector are increasinglyusing these instruments. The World Bank International Economics Department Commodity Policy and Analysis Unit October 1996 POLICYRESEARCH WORKINGPAPER1667 Summary findings Liberalization in commodity markets has brought profound changes in the way price risks are allocated and managed in commodity subsectors. Price risks are increasingly allocated to private traders and farmers rather than absorbed by the government. The success of market reform depends on the ability of the emerging private sector to make full use of the available range of modern commodity marketing, price risk management (such as futures, options, swaps, commodity bonds, and so on), and financing instruments. Because farmers do not generally have direct access to these instruments, interinediaries must be developed. Larger private traders and banks are in the best position to become these intermediaries. Preconditions needed for accessing modern commodity marketing, price risk management, and financing instruments are: * Creating an appropriate legal, regulatory, and institutional framework. * Reducing government...

International Child Labor

...Jaime Smith S. Scullion ENG 122 11 April 2011 International Child Labor Controversy Exploitation of children, taking advantage of children in the work place, has been referred to by researchers as the most widespread type of child abuse. Child labor is known to have first become an international issue in the 1860s and not until the 1980s, did the global movement begin. Today, more than 200 million children in the world are involved in child labor, with more than 50 percent of them working in extremely hazardous settings (International Labor Organization Video). The term child labor has many definitions depending on who you are talking to, meaning there is no concrete definition. For some, this phrase means preventing children from attending school and causing hazards to their health. Though for others, child labor simply involves any child under the age of 15 working for pay. Regardless of the definition, children could do factory work, mining, trafficking, prostitution, agriculture, or work in their parents’ business. There are many benefits of child labor whether it is for the economy, or ironically, the life of the children; however, the exploitation of these children has become such an international affair that laws or regulations need to be implemented globally in order to protect the welfare of all children. The argument, made time and time again, that children worldwide in child labor are disadvantaged in education and are susceptible to inadequate health is only...

Adapting to Drought in the Sahel: Lessons for Climate Change

...Adapting to drought in the Sahel: lessons for climate change Michael Mortimore∗ The Sahel’s experience of adapting to changes in rainfall on a scale at least comparable to that of climate change scenarios, between the 1960s and the 1990s, suggests that lessons can be learnt that may have a wider utility for policy in the future. The Sahel is a major global agroecological region and its success in adaptation will influence the achievement of the global Millennium Development Goals. From simple typologies of adaptation strategies, our understanding of adaptive capacity has evolved over time (with accumulating observations) into a contextual model which places drought management at the center of a development process. Climate change impacts in future are very uncertain. Policies and interventions should therefore aim to build on the platform of past achievements and existing local knowledge to enable flexibility and diversity and the protection of assets of small-scale farmers and herders .  2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. WIREs Clim Change 2010 1 134–143 ‘Africa is the most vulnerable region to climate change, due to the extreme poverty of many Africans, frequent natural disasters such as droughts and floods, and agricultural systems heavily dependent on rainfall’.1 ‘the continent’s low adaptive capacity serves as a major constraint to her ability to adapt’ (Ref 2. p. 6). ‘It is uncertain how rainfall in the Sahel, the Guinean coast and the southern Sahara will evolve in this century’...

Premarital Sex

...1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Sexually transmitted diseases Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) amongst adolescents are a worldwide growing health problem. Approximately one million people contract sexually transmitted infections every day and 50% of them are adolescents aged 15-24 years (Lazarus, Sihvonen-Riemenschneider, Laukamm-Josten, Wong & Liljestrand, 2010). STDs include many different sexually transmittable infectious diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, genital herpes, human papilloma virus (HPV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and syphilis. An STD is transmitted through vaginal, oral and anal sexual contact as well as through blood products. STDs can also be transmitted from mother to child during childbirth. Untreated chlamydia and gonorrhoea can lead to salpingitis for women and to epididymitis for men, which can affect fertility and in worst case lead to sterility. Hepatitis B, genital herpes, HPV and HIV are still incurable infections. HPV can lead to cervical cancer and HIV to premature death. The only way to protect oneself from contracting an STD is consistent condom use (Vårdguiden, 2011). Another term that is used in the literature is STI (sexually transmitted infection), which refers to the infection itself, whereas STD, which is the term that will be used in this paper, refers to the disease caused by an infection (TeenHealthFX, 2009). 1.2 Knowledge of STDs among adolescents A study based in Northern Thailand by Paz-Bailey et al. (2003) showed that...
