The OCC is the second biggest convention center behind Chicago in the United States. The location of central Florida and these huge buildings help OCC be in high demand for events. The Sears Tower would be able to fit lying down inside of the west building. The North/South building is smaller and shaped more like a box but still is large enough to host several events at the same time. Orlando is considered a first tier city. A first tier city is a city that is able to accommodate 30,000 people or more for an event. Other examples of first tier cities are Chicago, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Atlanta. The OCC is also a nonprofit business. It infuses the local economy with new money and expanding business. According to Dean they have only made a profit on two events the entire time he has worked there. The energy bill alone for a year is nine million dollars, with some of the high traffic months costing one million. Dean went through how he started out as a security guard to the position he is at currently. One of the things he stressed is you will mess up but make sure to learn from your mistakes. He also walked us through many of the business plans he has tried and went over the business idea as a whole. He was a part of building the UCF Student Union. The native South Americans he encountered told him about a gold-rich territory called Virú, which was on a river called Pirú (later corrupted to Perú) and from which they came. These reports were related by the Spanish-Inca mestizo writer Garcilaso de la Vega in his famous Comentarios Reales de los Incas (1609).Andagoya eventually established contact with several Native American curacas (chiefs), some of whom he later claimed were sorcerers and witches. ...Dear Ken Higgins, I work for Avery Dennison’s Graphics Division and we attended the International Sign Association Expo trade show in Las Vegas on the dates January 20-22, 2012. During our time at the trade show, we ran into a few issues. Here is a list of the issues we encountered: 1. The phone line to be used for credit card transactions was installed in wrong part of booth, requiring a 2-hour delay of the remaining set up on Jan. 19 (the day before the show began). This was an obvious setback for our booth. We could not really begin our show until the phone was setup. 2. The electricity failed twice on the first day of the show (Jan. 20) due to a faulty electrical junction box, shutting down the attendee lead retrieval device and interrupting a speaker doing a Power Point presentation of Avery Dennison’s products. Our entire presentation was stalled twice because when the power goes out, it forces us to reboot everything. This causes an even greater time delay to have everything up and running again. 3. The catering service arrived late for a VIP event in the booth on the second day of the show (Jan. 21) causing a 15-minute delay to the event. This was a major inconvenience since it was our VIP event and we wanted to everything running perfectly. The delay in the catering service made our VIP event seem unprofessional. Based on the events that happened, I was hoping to receive part of our transaction costs back for these costs and inconveniences. The total costs of the...

...'Twerk' is now in the dictionary, thanks to Miley Cyrus By Elisabeth Donnelly August 28, 2013, 7:56 a.m. Thanks to Miley Cyrus, the word "twerk" has been everywhere this week. And now it's going in the dictionary. Cyrus' gyrations during her performance at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards caused a stir and put the word "twerk" on everyone's lips — and in the Oxford Dictionaries Online. Dictionary officials call them "buzzworthy words added to Oxford Dictionaries Online" — "twerk" joins "bitcoin," "selfie," and "girl crush." They'll all now found in the Oxford Dictionaries Online, which is tasked with staying up to date with modern words. The Oxford Dictionaries Online is one of the largest in the world and adds about 1,000 new entries to its online version every year. Oxford Dictionaries' spokeswoman Katherine Connor Martin told the Associated Press that "twerking" dates back 20 years, and "the most likely theory is that it is an alteration of work ... with dancers being encouraged to 'work it.' The 't' could be a result of blending with another word such as twist or twitch." Its sibling publication, the authoritative Oxford English Dictionary, won't be updated with these words anytime soon, unless "twerk, verb" proves to have staying power. Or as the Oxford Dictionaries Online's usage example puts it: "twerk it girl, work it girl." Taking her daughters to remote Australia to sleep on the ground Australia's Northern Territory is just the place to get...

...Raiders in Vegas The Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis is exploring the option of moving the team to Las Vegas and has been meeting up with the Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson to see if would support a stadium in town. Multiple representatives of the Raiders were in Las Vegas on Friday to check out potential stadium sites. Howard Stutz of the Las Vegas Review-Journal said that Vegas could support a $1 Billion stadium that the University of Nevada Las Vegas had bought. “Correspondingly, the Sands leadership team let us know that officials from the Oakland Raiders are scheduled to travel to Las Vegas and tour locations around the valley for a potential new home, and they have asked for us to meet them at our 42-acre site on Friday morning to answer questions about that site.” (Jessup) The Raiders do not have a lease for a home stadium for the 2016 season. Many people expect them to stay in Oakland for at least another year. They could also join the Rams in Inglewood if the Chargers decline. Mike Florio, of Pro Football Talk implied that it is probably more of a bargaining tool in an effort to convince Oakland to finance a new stadium. Raiders are still discussing plans to have a short term lease with the O.co Coliseum for the 2016 season, yet an agreement has not been reached. University of Nevada Las Vegas has been helping the Raiders find a site in Vegas on land that is owned by the University. Also, if the Chargers make the move to Los Angeles, the Raiders...

...* Problem statement The problem for Las Vegas is they are losing revenue because of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. People also see Vegas as Sin City and a place where people go to gamble. Vegas do not have a good image to a lot of people. Even though they are trying to turn it around and create a place for families they will never lose that Sin City label. * Company Analysis Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) fielded several national ad campaigns. Tourism is Las Vegas’s biggest industry, and LVCVA is charged with maintaining the city’s brand image and keeping visitors coming to one of the world’s most famous cities. As the 1900s rolled around, many Las Vegas officials felt that the town needed to broaden its target audience. So they set out to appeal to families. Some of the biggest casinos on the Las Vegas strip built roller coasters and other thrill rides, world-class water parks, and family-friendly shows like Treasure Island’s live-action swashbuckler spectacle, visible to everyone passing by on the street. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, dealt Las Vegas tourism one of its worst blows ever. Declining tourism led to 15 000 lost jobs. The LVCVA engineered an image of Las Vegas as a luxury destination oozing with excess and indulgence. The theme parks were replaced by five-star resorts, high-rise condos, expansive shopping mall filled with the world’s top luxury brands, and restaurants bearing names of world-renowned chefs...

...1. Competitions in the international hotel industry is increasingly intensified and globalized as hotels seek new ways to grow and target markets and potential customers have more alternative to choose from. Explain in detail this issue. Over the past two generations, the hotel industry has evolved in a continued boom to accommodate explosive growth and radically changing consumer demand, and has adjusted itself to a substantially different social and economic environment. Consequently, more complicated and varied types of hotels have been brought into existence. Simultaneously, the competition to secure a strong share in the global hotel market has become fierce among hotel chains armed with a wide variety of worldwide networks. Hospitality companies can be grouped as either limited-service organizations or service intensive operations. In the hotel industry, polarization in hotel is being accelerated. The most basic division is between limited- service and full-service properties, hotels are tailoring themselves to specialized markets, a practice often referred to as target marketing. One of the major reasons hotels are increasingly targeting specific market segments is that in most markets, there is more than enough hotel capacity to go around. Competition will be even tougher in the years ahead. Hotels offer a highly competitive outlook for all but the luxury sector. The growth in competition makes tightly controlled operations especially important to survival. Hotel companies...

...Chris Loveless HMT 420 Dr. Brown 09/22/14 Current Trends in the Casino Industry Twenty years ago, casino’s used things like restaurants, rooms, spas and entertainment as amenities that would drive the customer to the casino floor, where the “house edge” would kick in and the casinos would make their money. Yes, there was a small revenue stream coming out of the non-gaming amenities, but it was barely enough to get noticed, particularly when stacked up against the huge revenues that on-floor casino gaming. Today, non-gaming amenities have become, at least on the Las Vegas Strip, as much of a revenue generator as the casino. On the Strip today, it is common to see more casino’s making more from the non-gaming side of the business than from the on-floor casino gambling. No longer is betting a requirement for a casino to earn money from visitors. While the gambler is still the profit king, casinos have begun to recognize customers who don’t gamble but enjoy the other amenities, thereby contributing to the resort’s revenue stream. Recently, a new trend that is spreading throughout casinos have developed methods to track those customers who aren’t players by issuing them players club cards that are recognized in all the non-gaming areas of the hotel. From rooms to restaurants, spas to pools, customers can now get the same kind of credit for buying products and services that gamblers do for playing slots or tables. Casinos today want to recognize the customer with...
