...Executive Summary In December 2008, Martin Cook, president of Currie Road Construction Limited, a B.C. based firm, had to decide soon on the company’s expansion plan due to the anticipated economic stimulus spending in both B.C. and Texas in the coming year. The two primary alternatives are either to enter the U.S. construction industry, particularly the Texas market, or to continue the company operations within Canada. Currie owns 2.7% of the B.C. market and due to fierce competition, it is extremely difficult to gain market share. On the other hand, Texas has a bigger market with less competition. Texas Department of Transportation is approving road construction projects that worth more than $4.5 billion. With Currie’s experience and specialized techniques in road maintenance, it would have a great chance in securing sizeable market share in Texas. Moreover many companies in Texas are barred from bidding for one to two years due to price fixing and collusion, making it the perfect timing for Currie to enter the market and develop a good reputation. At the same time Currie could better utilize resources such as their specialized machinery that sits idle during the winter. Brad Carlyle, the proposed GM of the Houston operation understands the U.S. market and has important contacts within the governments and the construction industry. Cook has full confidence in Carlyle. Carlyle also indicated that due to the unemployment rate in Texas, hiring blue-collar employees would be...

...How to Write an Executive Summary: Why Write It? Investors, lenders, executives, managers and CEOs are busy. Always. That means that the executive summary is an essential gateway for your business plan to get read. Think about it this way: if you had an endless list of things to do, and someone handed you an 80-page document and said "read this! you'd probably first want to know why. "The most important reason to include an executive summary is that in many cases, it is the only thing the reader will read," says Pablo Bonjour, founder & CEO of Katy, Texas-based SMG Business Plans, a company that offers entrepreneurs assistance in writing business plans. According to Bonjour, investors will read the executive summary to decide if they will even bother reading the rest of the business plan. It's rare for an investor or lender to read an entire business plan, at least in the initial stages of analysis and consideration for funding, so having a strong executive summary is key. When you're writing your business plan, your goal is to get your foot in the door and face-time with the investor. "Assuming that your business is a good fit for the investor, a strong executive summary will get you invited in for a meeting," Hirai says. "A poor executive summary will leave you standing in the cold." ...explanations for why Texas executes far more people than any other state and is doing so at a pace that has no parallel in the modern era of the death penalty in the U.S. What follows is a summary of the analyses. Texas has become ground zero for capital punishment. Between 1976 (when the Supreme Court lifted its prohibition on the death penalty) and 1998 Texas executed 167 people. Next in rank was Virginia which executed 60 during the same period. (**my note** as of today, Texas has executed 237 individuals, and Virginia has executed 80) Why do capital murder cases proceed through the Texas state court system with a speed unimaginable in other parts of the country? Brent Newton, in an article entitled "Capital Punishment: Texas Could Learn a Lot from Florida,"1argues that there are three procedures unique to the state's judicial system that enable it to execute convicted murderers with astonishing frequency: 1. Texas' appellate judges are elected to office and hence serve according to the pleasure of the public. Not surprisingly, they require a record of toughness on criminals in order to win re-election. Also, there are many indications that elected appellate judges generally are of a lesser quality than their appointed counterparts in other states. Newton even claims that these elected judges do not carefully consider the complexities of each specific death penalty case. As evidence, Newton argues that "[e]specially during the past few years...the Texas Court of Criminal...

...The Battle of the Alamo Abstract This paper is a battle analysis of the Battle of the Alamo, which took place in 1836. It reviews the location and its significance within the war for independence that was taking placing during that time. The actions by the Texas revolutionary forces and Mexicans leading up to and during the battle are listed within the writing. It reveals the issue between the force stationed at the Alamo and their superior, General Sam Houston. The defenders at the Alamo didn’t receive support that was needed in order to provide intelligence of the Mexican force that was on its way. On the other hand, they didn’t listen to the order to vacate the fort. These are a couple of the major problems that took place before and during the battle. Although the battle was essential to inspiring the rest of the Texan forces, it leads me to believe that this important conflict could have turned out differently. The Battle of the Alamo The Battle of the Alamo is the most famous battle of the Texas revolution that took place in the early 1800s. “For many Americans and most Texans, the battle has become a symbol of patriotic sacrifice” (Hardin, 2010). Even though the Texans lost the battle, it contributed to the successful war for independence against Mexico. There were, at least, two decisions that may have altered the consequence of the Battle of the Alamo if more cautiously considered. The defenders at the Alamo didn’t receive support that was needed in order to...

...Final Strategic Plan BUS/475 July 30, 2012 The second part of the proposed athletic apparel company will consist of a SWOTT analysis. SWOTT is an acronym for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats and trends. One of the strengths for JC's athletic apparel is location, location, location. South Texas, particularly Corpus Christi Texas, is currently a hot bed for all kinds of sports and prospective customers are all over the place. Customers range from toddlers all the way to high school aged athletes, not to mention the older fans and supporters that will no doubt purchase apparel to support the team. It has been said to strike while the iron is hot and now is the time for JC's to take off and attack the market. Strength for the company is the demand for professional grade athletic apparel here in the coastal bend. Many customers have been forced to either make bulk purchases online and pay an arm and leg in shipping or travel to another town in order to find reasonable quality athletic gear. Unfortunately with strengths there are also weaknesses. Although there is a high demand in the city for athletic apparel it is a particularly small city and additional businesses in the same market could cause saturation of the market which could decrease demands and force us to lower prices. JC's prices could be perceived as another weakness since we have chosen to remain steadfast in not lowering our prices in an effort to provide continued...

...belongs. After 18 years of appeals, the Supreme Court has rejected his case. Some law students want the case looked at again even after the Supreme Court rejected his appeal. Here are the facts that convicted him Mr. Byrne, now a New Jersey accounting executive, grew up in southwest Ohio and worked at the Chiquita Center on the day his wife of seven months was murdered. "Sherry called me at 10:15 a.m. at my office in downtown Cincinnati to excitedly relay that a friend of ours, and my college fraternity `Big Brother,' David Brewer, had just called her and invited her to come and see him and his wife, Cathy, at a motel near our home in Springdale," he recalled. Sherry took along her puppy, "Bo." Brewer was waiting for her alone. It was the last Joe Byrne ever heard from his wife. Brewer confessed. The case was airtight. That's a cruel joke to the families of victims, who have endured years of stalling appeals, flimsy technicalities and lies. "The appeals process is needed for sure, but there is clearly a time where it becomes nothing but a game to the lawyers," Byrne said Sherry was tortured...

...SAFE House Project Jerald Coleman Crime Prevention CRJ 306 Prof Angelique Lees March 10, 2014 It is the place where the Coleman family has called home for many years. From my years at Grimes Elementary, to playing basketball and football in the streets, crowds gathering for little league football and baseball games. Sunnyside, Texas is one of the most popular areas around the Houston area. However, along with those good times, also came some heartaches and pain due to crimes committed. Many of those little leaguers we watched on the football field years ago, we watched some of them be carried off into police cars or the medical examiner vans. We have watched them as playful children who eventually ended into drugs and violence. One can only ask what we can do to save our community for all of this negativity. The purpose of this proposal is to introduce the idea of a program entitled “Safe House”. Safe House stands for Substance Abuse Free Environment. Safe House will cater to men, women, and juvenile offenders. This proposal will be a brief summary of the crime in our community as well as how this program will be beneficial in preventing more crimes in our area. This proposal will also analyze the SARA Model along with the Crime Analysis Triangle and determine how both would be beneficial in the development of this program. This proposal will also discuss how effective will Safe House be in our community and how. It will then discuss my recommendations, predictions, and...
