...Robert B. Burnish The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch The Last Lecture is a New York Times best-selling publication co-authored by Randy Pausch, a lecturer of computer research, human-computer interaction, and conceive at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Jeffrey Zaslow of the Wall Street Journal. The publication was born out of a lecture Pausch provided in September 2007, Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams. (Dann, 14-19) The publication has often been in evaluation with Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie, a publication on courses the scribe wise from his staining school professor. When inquired about his information of the publication, Pausch answered that he had not ever read that publication, and commented that he "didn’t understand there was a dying-professor part at the bookstore” with his usual sardonic wit. Speculation that the publication would be turned into a video was turned down by Pausch himself. Pausch consigned his "Last Lecture", titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” at Carnegie Mellon on September 18, 2007. This converse was modeled after an ongoing sequence of addresses where peak academics are inquired to believe profoundly about what matters to them, and then give a hypothetical "final talk," i.e., "what wisdom would you try to impart to the world if you knew it was your last chance?" (Dann, 14-19) A month before giving the address, Pausch had obtained a prognosis that the pancreatic cancer, with which...

...American Literature Prof: Renee Emerson James Fennimore Cooper was born in America on September 15th of 1789, and passed away September the 14th of 1851. Before starting his career as a writer he served in the US Navy. That caused him to base some of his stories on the sea and his Navy experience. He spent most of his time in Cooperstown, which was a town that his father founded. Also he was a member and contributor to the Episcopal Church. About his education, he attended to Yale for three years but then he good expelled due to misbehavior. He was without a doubt a prolific writer of the early 19th century. And he is one of the most important romantic writers in American history. His masterpiece is The Last of the Mohicans, which will be analyzed in this essay. The Last of the Mohicans is the most popular story from the Leatherstocking Tales. It is a story about the French and Indian war that took place in the 1750s. They were fighting about who would have control over the colonies. When Cora and Alice, the daughters of an English military man, are traveling to visit their father led by Magua they run into Hawkeye, Chingachgook and Uncas. ...Notes on “The Last Kiss “Film! An interpersonal conflict is a disagreement or some kind of differing opinions, thoughts, or actions among two or more of us people. I have chosen the film called “The Last Kiss “This movie was actually a good movie and a movie based on real happenings that go on everyday amongst people. The couple Anna and Michael was not married but were expecting a child and throughout the movie we could see questionable thoughts, concern, tension, and all of that causes us at times to feel overwhelmed with stuff which is what we don’t want to happen. This couple was fixing to have a baby possibly get married and in his eyes he I guess was scared and in question but still at the very least had no right to do what he did! There should have been communication, togetherness, compromise, and then things could have worked out so much better instead they fought, there were hurt feelings, anger, and a situation that went totally sour when it shouldn’t have. It wouldn’t have if both would have been honest with their feelings from the start and if temptation had not played a huge factor with Michael. If Jenna and Michael had taken a step back during all of the new stuff that was happening in their life especially the baby bit then they could of taken one day at a time and got through it together. Communication will always play a big factor in any type of relationship and can help keep one positive. Without compromise and communication we will continue to see...

...The Last Supper As a child whenever I would visit my grandfather’s house there would always be a picture of The Last Supper. In fact he had two, one was in the dining room and the other was hung in the family room. He considered himself a very religious man and believed every family should have one because it symbolized faith and unity within the family. Up until recently I believe the painting was an recreated image of Jesus and his disciples of what the painter felt they should look like and not actual members of the Da Vinci family posing for a photo. Some images shows Jesus with his head bowed slightly while his eyes appear to be close as if he’s blessing the food. Growing up as a child it was taught that everyone sat and ate dinner at the same time and my father gave grace. Even as an adult, whenever I attend family gatherings whether it’s cook-outs, family reunion, birthday parties or dinner at home we all sit to a table and someone blesses the food. I believe that giving thanks or grace as some call it is a simple act of appreciation to God for being the source of all we have, including our food. This is a tradition I follow as a Christian because it was instill in me when I was young and I’m instilling it in my children. The significance of coming together at mealtime shows a sense of unity within the family, every one being of one accord. I believe civilization was created around the dinner table even the Pilgrims and Indians put aside their difference for a Thanksgiving...

...The scene started off with a man by the name of Capt. Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) laying on a floor wearing dirty garments and yelling out the name of a man that he had just killed before his capture. The Captain was captured during a fight between the Americans and the Japanese, but instead of killing the American, the Samurai leader Katsumoto (Ken Wantanobe) wanted him alive so that he could learn from his enemy's ways. The Captain was staying in Katsumoto's ex brother-in-law's house with the now widowed young lady and her children. The lady was very un-accepting of the war hero at first, because he was the man who killed her husband, but as the story grew, she, along with the rest of her Buddhist tribe grew to like the American. As the American got stronger and was given more rights by their tribe, he started to learn the art of Japanese language and symbolism. While he was learning the semantics of another culture, I noticed that he had completely forgotten his ways as an American soldier and instead, took on the way of the Samurai. As the ways of the Samurai embodied him, he grew emotionally and spiritually enough to the point of complete change of being. He was now willing to fight for the Samurais, and although they did not have all the weapons that the Americans possessed, they did have much more structure of discipline and self control. The clip ends with the American apologizing to the young lady for the slaying of her husband. She accepts, and then tells him in Japanese...

...The Review on the Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. Randolph Frederick "Randy" Pausch (October 23, 1960 – July 25, 2008) was an American professor of computer science and human-computer interaction and design at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pausch was the author or co-author of five books and over 70 articles. Pausch died from pancreatic cancer at his family's home in Chesapeake, Virginia on July 25, 2008, at the age of 47. The last lecture by Randy Pausch to the 400 students in Carneige Mellon University mainly focuses on how to live the prosperous life. It specifically talks about the childhood dreams and how to achieve those dreams and become successful in life. Following are the things that I have learned from the lecture. To achieve success in life we need to have dreams; be it a childhood dream or the dreams that we dream when we grow up but we always need to have dreams. And then we should work towards achieving those dreams. And when we work towards achieving those dreams we can never say that those dreams can be achieved at one go. We are going to face lot of failure and obstacles blocking our way. And then when we experience failure and other problems, complaining and wining is never going to solve our problem. Instead we should never think that it's the end of our dream and we should consider those failure as the inspiration to work harder and the we should keep on trying because everything is possible in life. Now to have...

...SYNOPSIS OF THE LAST SUPPER ACCOUNTS Student’s Name Date In the New Testament, the Last Supper refers to the last meal that Jesus shared with his disciples on the night of his betrayal. This last meal mentioned in different terms in different texts. These terms include the Lord's Supper, Eucharist, communion and mass. The last supper serves as an encouragement and a unifying factor to Christians. It binds them in fellowship of love, trust and mutual acceptance. Sharing of the last supper is one of the orders that Jesus gave to his church. It is ideally Christian’s remembrance of Jesus, acknowledgement of his presence, confident hope in his second coming, fellowship with him and his people, self-examination, thanksgiving and gratitude. 1This paper explores the last supper event as presented by the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and 1st Corinthians. Historical Background of the Last Supper The last supper concept dates back to the early times in the Old Testament where Jews used to celebrate the Passover. The Passover ritual entailed an opening course where the paterfamilias spoke a blessing over the first cup of wine. The preliminary dish comprised green herbs, bitter herbs and a sauce made...

...Joshua Sierra December 15, 2009 Professor Cordell Lit-201.001 The Last of The Mohicans is a novel that touches heavily on the topic of race and the difficulty people might face when attempting to overcome racial buriers. Such characters like Hawkeye and Chingachgook are proof of this. Hawkeye is a white man that prefers to live and follow the code of the Indians, rather than that of the white settlers. It is as if he is playing both sides of the field which works to his advantage and also lets the reader see how open minded Hawkeye seems to be. He is best friends with Chingachgook, the chief of the Mohicans. This alone shows that Hawkeye has a certain kind of appreciation for individuality and clearly shows that he is able to make sensible decisions without regard to race. He can see Chingachgook for who he really is and does not let silly things like race or cultural background come between their friendship. One interesting quote was in Chapter III when Hawkeye says, “There is reason in an Indian, though nature has made him with a red skin! I am no scholar, and I care not who knows it; but judging from what I have seen, at deer chases and squirrel hunts, of the sparks below, I should think a rifle in the hands of their grandfathers was not so dangerous as a hickory bow and a good flint-head might be, if drawn with Indian judgment, and sent by an Indian eye.” (Baym 1003) This quote comes from a debate that Chingachgook was having with Hawkeye. I found...

...Introduction: The Last Knight In the European nations, the glamorous of the Middle Ages fascinates people a lot, mostly during the times of Chivalry. The Arthurian legends and the chivalry poetry encouraged most authors to write fictional or entertainment books. Some of which are romantic books, while some are for leisure. Indeed, the early work of the past writers gives a lot of historical information to write about the present happenings from a life of Europeans (Hülsmann, 2007). For instance, the history of Errol Flynn's Prince Edward and the Black Knight contains a lot of historical records to talk. In essence, most writers today borrow some of their literature work from these fantasies such as the Knights and life of the medieval when they read the historical realities or fictions. However, in most cases they do not realize that the work they are writing on presently already recorded in the past. This premise forms the main objective or value why Norman F. Cantor wrote his book named "The Last Knight." Cantor wrote the book for anyone who may want to develop a solid concept of life during the prehistorical time (Morgan, 2012). Cantor used a key figure, Gaunt John, in continuous snapshots based on medieval life. In his work, Cantor succeeded to sideline the psychological baggage mostly got from movies, fictional tales and the comic strips, Prince Valiant. John of Gaunt was an eminent person in England towards the end of the middle ages. Regardless of his position, whose...

...Like It’s Our Last Day Patty Jo Djennelbaroud English 121 Instructor Asatryan March 25, 2013 Like It’s Our Last Day All too often we live our lives like we will be here forever. We take advantage of the time we are given to spend with our loved ones, and neglect opportunities to show how much we treasure them. Even when someone is old or sick, it’s too easy for us to fool ourselves into thinking that they ‘know’ just how important they are to us and how they impact our lives. I was lucky enough to be taught the value of living each day like it was my last day, and to never take our loved ones for granted, thanks to my niece Hillarie. When I was 14, my sister gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Hillarie Dawn. She had milky-smooth copper skin, was completely bald, and the longest baby I had ever seen. Even her toes and fingers seem to stretch for miles, and she could keep herself entertained for ages just by watching her tiny fragile fingers furling out and in, again and again, like the tail of a peacock opening and closing. She wasn’t the first baby in this generation of my family; she was number five thus far. You could say we were quite well versed in newborn-ology, but she surprised us all with her quiet and easy nature. She rarely cried or fussed, was always happy, and even let us catch sleep for hours at a time. Before the age of 2 she was diagnosed with a heart disorder, a rare form of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy with RCM. It held a bleak outcome for her future;...

...“Fermat’s Last Theorem” Research Summary (Yutaka Taniyama) Pierre de Fermat’s last theorem states that that no three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation an + bn = cn for any integer value of n greater than two. This became one of the most puzzled and complex theorems ever to emerge in the Mathematician world. No one could prove this to be true until British Mathematician Andrew Wiles solved it in 1995. Wiles was first inspired by the Taniyama-Shimura conjecture and used this as a starting point in solving Fermat’s theorem. The Taniyama-Shimura conjecture was developed by Yutaka Taniyama and Goro Shimura. Although both mathematicians are credited, it was essentially Taniyama who was responsible for the theorem. The Taniyama-Shimura conjecture was a partial and refined case of elliptic curves over rationals. Yutaka Taniyama was a brilliant mathematician who committed suicide at the age of 31 in 1958. Due to depression of lack of confidence for a happy future, he ended his life. His ideas were often criticized which most likely led to his death. Goro Shimura stated that he was sad when he heard the terrible news, but was more shocked and puzzled more than anything. Shimura’s famous quote after Taniyama’s death stated “He was not a very careful person as a mathematician. He made a lot of mistakes. But he made mistakes in a good direction. I tried to emulate him. But I've realized that it's very difficult to make good mistakes.” In conclusion, Andrew Wiles...

I was very nervous while I was taking notes from both of the videos we had to view for the assignment. I waited until my youngest son went to school so that I would be able to stay-focused on the information that I needed to write notes from and have no distractions so my full attention would be only on the assignment. I watched Randy Pausch’s video several times, his compassionate tone and his humbleness helped me...
