Lauren Swonke is a registered, licensed dietitian and nutritionist at the TCU Student Health Center. I was unable to attend this guest speaker but after consulting notes on her presentation, I found the information quite valuable for students at TCU. Lauren had a wealth of knowledge to share about how one should eat well, while on campus. She stressed the importance of taking advantage of the campus' to-go box system. She explained how this was an easy way to plan one's breakfast and snack options. Students are allowed 20 to-go swipes per semester at TCU. Using the to-go system allows one to keep helpful foods in the room, instead of grabbing fast food in-between or after classes. The items Lauren suggested dancers take were; yogurt and granola, toast and cream cheese, hummus and veggie sticks, and peanut butter and apples. These snacks all include a necessity in the diet of dancers. Lauren explained how dancers need fat in their diets and cannot just avoid it.

After reading the supplemental essay about how dancers should eat and about nutritional information,…show more content… Ultimately, my passion and everyday activity depends on my body. I need to make sure I am healthy enough to continue to do what I need to do during class every single day. Having speakers like Lauren, who are able to instruct dancers on how to do this, is very beneficial. She also understood how difficult it is to work around a dancers' schedule and offered tips to help this problem. Lauren emphasized eating at least every five hours in order to not negatively affect one's brain, muscles, and more. She also gave the advice that planning ahead can help immensely. This information is significantly relevant to the current situation of dance majors, making Lauren a great resource for the Career Preparation
