Laurie Hernandez is a very skilled gymnast. She was on the women’s gymnastics team for the United States this summer in Brazil. She came home with a silver medal on beam and a gold medal as a team. Right before every routine on every event she says the same three words, “I Got This”. Laurie is very outgoing and loves to dance in her floor routine. Laurie Hernandez is important because she is an inspiration to people and gymnasts all across the world.
Lauren Zoe Hernandez was born on June 9, 2000 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Jersey. She has a brother named Marcus and a sister named Jelysa. Laurie was always very outgoing. She attended her first gymnastics class when she was only 6 years old. Her parents and coaches were noticing that she was developing skills a lot faster that the other girls so they put her on a competition team. Before she joined the competition team she was in ballet. She soon realized that she did not like the slow pace of ballet and started to focus more on gymnastics. When Laurie was only fourteen years old she had her biggest injury yet. Laurie had a blast with all of her friends, showing thousands of people what they could do. Laurie ended up riding on a bus with Simone and Aly, Gabby, and Madison were on a different one.The tour appeared in thirty six cities all across America. There was even a show in St. Paul, Minnesota! Laurie ended up missing some of the performances because she had to practice and perform on Dancing with the Stars. Even Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin were there. They competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Laurie had a blast because she loved to dance and they danced a lot on tour.
