I want you to know that, should you need to contact me outside these time frames, you should not hesitate to do so. | Late Assignments Late assignments receive a 10% deduction for each day they are late if assignments are not posted by 6:00 p.m. C.S.T. on the day they are due. Assignments more than 4 days late will not be accepted. Technological issues are not considered valid grounds for late assignment submission. In the event of a University of Phoenix server outage, students should submit assignments to the instructor and when systems are restored, submit those assignments according to syllabus instructions. Unless an Incomplete grade has been granted, learner assignments submitted after the last day of class will not be accepted. | Learning Teams University of Phoenix students are expected to work effectively in diverse groups and teams to achieve tasks. Many police agencies suffer all the way around the table with less money to work with in a fiscal year. They have had to eliminate certain units that are an important part of crime control and catching criminals. Some of these include; gang units, narcotics unit, mounted patrol, and also eliminating many civilian positions. Not only do the cutbacks affect each unit within the department, but the department as a whole. They have fewer resources to work with when they cannot afford the proper training, equipment and technology. With all of these issue’s they have to deal with, it makes their jobs that much harder. The budget cuts have affected many places across the United States. Crime rates have gone up in many areas; where at one point the crime rate was going down. ...What are the issues facing law enforcement today? That is a good question, but not one I think is best suited for a initial hire interview. Think about it, what power does a probationary officer have within the department to solve any "problems" facing law enforcement? I know what they are looking for in asking the question, but there are better ways to illicit a response on those topics. As to the question, perhaps the largest issue I see in LE is: Communication. Great answer to the board question, hit them back with such a broad response to a generic question. Communication has been, and will always be a large issue in LE. Its not just communication between dispatch and officers or officers and the public, but between all levels in the chain of command. Between departments within the agency, between agencies and other levels of government. We tend to play our game too close to our chest, though with good reason sometimes. We really need to work on our flow of information and resources. How do these issues coincide with those of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)? DHS must improve communication between law enforcement agencies in order to accomplish its mission because many threats and suspicious activity will be observed first, and possibly only, by cops on the street.
