...According to the “Leadership Self-Assessment” my leadership style is transformational and charismatic (Media.capella.edu, 2015). The “transformational leadership theory-assume the fact that people will follow a person who inspires them, a person with vision and passion who can lead them in the wright direction, and can help them achieve great things” (Alina, 2013, p. 210). The major premise of the charismatic leadership theory is “beliefs imparted to followers” (Media.capella.edu, 2015). I believe the leadership characteristics most dominant for me are those of the transformational leader: “charismatic, inspirational, role model, enabler” (Media.capella.edu, 2015). I might integrate other leadership characteristics into my style to...

...Leadership Self-Assessment HA515: Leadership in Health Care February 7, 2015 For this assignment I had decided to take the Myers and Briggs personality test and the type A and B personality indicators test each of these test I took numerous times and basically got the same results. Both of these tests are made up of multiple questions on feelings to how you react in certain situations. Out of the two tests I like the Myers Briggs test better than the type A and B test I feel I got a better reading from the Myers-Briggs test. So my results in the Myers-Briggs test was INTJ and this was broken down into four categories. First introvert, second intuitive, third thinking and the fourth judging. I was pleasantly surprised. I scored a slight preference of introversion over extraversion by 22%. I had a distinct preference of intuition over sensing by 62%. I had a moderate preference of thinking over feeling by 50% and I had a moderate preference of judging over perceiving by 33% . And for my other test I scored a 5 out of 10 making me a type B personality. So now comes the fun part of breaking each part of the test down on what type of leader I am. The first scale in the Myers-Briggs test for me was introversion over extraversion by 22%. I do agree with this. I have always said I am more of introversion individual. His I have always enjoyed solitary activities growing up I was always reading any book I could get my hands on trying to broaden my mental capacity of...

It is used to assist in identifying areas this author considers to be current strengths and areas that athe author aspires to grow and develop. Figure 1 shows the results of the self-assessment. Figure 1 When reviewing the results in Figure 1, there are patterns evident in the current competencies scoring. First, this author rated herself lower in all competencies for her current capabilities than she would like to have upon completion of her master’s program and as she develops her skills over time in her career. It’s probably noteworthy that the author would like to exhibit a high level of competency in all areas as well. This...

...Comprehensive Self Analysis of Leadership Style Stephen R. Covey once said “We immediately become more effective when we decide to change ourselves rather than asking things to change for us.” A manager should assess themselves regularly, just as they do with their employees. My name is Jane Doe, and I currently manage a team of highly intelligent computer programmers at a rural telecommunications company. I assess myself and my team in the interest of providing the best service to my company and team. One assessment I used recently was the “Seven Habit’s Profile.” This profile measures the following areas: Emotional Bank Account, Life Balance, Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand, Synergize and Sharpen the Saw. The scoring landed me squarely in the “very good” range, but a couple areas that stood out to me were Seek First to Understand and Think Win-Win. These are areas that are indicative of my leadership style. The style I most closely represent is Transformational Leadership. The ability to understand others, supports the transformational leadership style by making a leader aware of others’ needs, something which is needed when inspiring change. “Thinking win-win”, also supports this style by finding areas where both parties benefit; making change easier and more productive. Taking the Seven Habits Profile highlighted some of my strengths and weaknesses in relation to the Transformational Leadership style...

...Plan Self Assessments are quizzes that help evaluate employees on their skills, interests, personality, and values. “As ethical problems have increased in organizations, integrity tests have gained popularity. These paper-and-pencil tests measure factors such as dependability, carefulness, responsibility, and honesty; they have proven to be powerful predictors of supervisory ratings of job performance and of theft, discipline problems, and excessive absenteeism” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg. 1). As a manager for Riordan Manufacturing, three employees took a series of self-assessment tests for my organization. The analysis and interpretation scores of all three are positive and all three would make a great contribution to the organization. Positive people cognitively process more efficiently and are more productive. Job Satisfaction and Engaged High job satisfaction was above the range that determines lower levels of absenteeism, and their general attitude toward work is positive. Their engaged scores were also high, which defines these employees are in a positive state of motivation and fulfillment. “Individuals who score high in this category are loyal, dedicated, willing to devote considerable time to work, feel inspired by and proud of their work, and become immersed and absorbed while performing their work” (Stephen P. Robbins/University of Phoenix, 2005-2009). My employees are content coming to work and will possess good work ethics and values. They are self motivated...

...Understanding Human Behavior is critical to organizations. Benefits of self-evaluation/self- assessment as it relates to leaders today. Leadership is all about people. Effective leaders have strong ability to create a compelling vision and lead people to the achievements of goals. Irrespective of whether you are an experienced leader or new and feeling uneasy in a leadership role, one of the key knowledge one should possess is knowledge of self. Leaders are influential. This fact makes the understanding of how exactly the leader effects his followers a vital part for the leader’s and organization success. Knowing oneself is the first step to such understanding. Numerous studies on leadership attributes, be it personality traits, skills or knowledge provide us with a rich coverage of what makes a good leader. Leaders must be visionary, charismatic, curious, creative, competent, empathetic, courageous, have good communication skills and exhibit common sense (Lee Iacocca’s 9C’s), relentless in execution, intellectually and emotionally intelligent. There is hardly anyone that can get the highest scores in all the dimensions. That is where the self-awareness takes the prime part. Self-assessment and evaluation are the exercises that can increase leader’s self-awareness in different areas, from values and personal style to impact on others and own strengths and limitations. Let’s consider some of the areas for self-assessment and evaluation benefits for the leader. Authenticity There...

...personal leadership style. As a student at the University of Phoenix, one may accomplish this by participating in self-assessments. When one is earnest and open with his or her views and values, these self-assessments reflects it, which enables one to develop and grow in his or her leadership style. The self-assessment used for this assignment contains six areas and each area is analyzed and interpreted. The analysis and interpretation gives one a true picture of his or her strengths and weaknesses in a leadership role as a Counselor helping veterans to enter and be successful in post-secondary education. The first self-assessment asked “What’s My Leadership Style?” which taps the degree to which one is task or people oriented indicates that one’s concern for people or people-orientation which focuses on group interactions and the needs of individual members is high with a score of eight. The self-assessment also indicated that one’s concern for task or task-orientation which focuses on getting the job done is also high with a score of 17. This self-assessment states that the “best leaders are ones that can balance their task/people orientation to various situations” and a high score on both task/people orientation indicates this balance (Pfeiffer and Jones, 1974). The self-assessment that follows asked “How Charismatic Am I?” and one having a high score in this area is considered by followers as having heroic or extraordinary leadership abilities. The self-assessment of “How...

...Q1. Understanding Human Behavior is critical to organizations - discuss the benefits of self evaluation/self assessment as it relates to leaders today. Effective leadership is one critical aspect for organizations today. Pursuing high levels of effective leadership, leaders need to measure their skills and capabilities against different leadership dimensions. This will help leaders to spot dimensions that need enhancement and others that need development. This paper will discuss the benefits of leader’s self-assessment of different dimensions with focus on those related to understanding human behavior. Self Assessment Techniques: Different techniques of self-assessment have been developed. As (Clawson, et al., 2000:4) stated ‘There are many theories about the elements that make up leadership’ hence self assessment technique differ in terms of leadership dimensions measured. Another factor is the methodology used for each technique. Among the different techniques one can identify the Leadership Steps Assessment (LSA) developed by (Clawson, et al., 2000)Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), 360 assessment and many more. LSA will be considered as a sample in this paper. Leadership Steps Assessment (LSA) LSA models the leadership using six dimensions, which defines the components of leadership which, as (Clawson, et al., 2000:4) proposed were: 1. Clarifying one’s center. 2. Clarifying what is possible. 3. Clarifying what others have to contribute. 4. Supporting others so they...

...The benefits of self-evaluation as it relates to leaders today When talking about LEAN, leadership is a key component of change and driving implementation. The article below, written as part of my MBA in Leadership and Sustainability with Robert Kennedy College & The University of Cumbria, examines the benefits of self-evaluation for leaders. Self-evaluation or “self-leadership” (Runn, 2011) forms a critical part of a leaders repertoire and some key blocks of the foundation for this persons leadership. If someone can ultimately say that they fully understand themselves, they will find it much easier to understand others around them. This however requires some strong discipline from the leader, to continuously self-evaluate and aim for continuous improvement. There are some key questions that the leader needs to ask themselves and truthfully answer to gage where they are at. 1. Do as you preach If a leader makes a statement about what he or she will be doing, they need to take ownership and answer on the basis whether they actually did as they said. When a leader expects others to follow suit, they need to set the standards. 2. Change is ok If a change of direction was required from the initial target, that is ok, as long as the leader can clearly identify why it was different to the planned path, and explain that in simple terms. The two points above can be broken into many individual questions that form the basis of a self-evaluation tool...

...Leader’s Self-Insight’s Leader’s Self-Insight’s Christa Foster Wright MGT 321 Professor Martin Earl Roach December 09, 2013 LEADER’S SELF-INSIGHT’S Leader’s self-insight’s is a person’s particular nature or personality and qualities making that individual unique capability in gaining an accurate and deep understanding, of the situation at hand. Leaders display traits through patterns in their behavior (Draft, 2011, p. 33). The leader’s self insight exercises taking the form of questionnaires, scenarios and activities provides self-assessments for learners and opportunities to experience leadership issues in a personal nature (Draft, 2011, p. xv). Therefore, knowing each individual leader unique set of qualities, characteristics, and strengths can be beneficial to the leadership role, by giving a perspective to leadership behavior (2013, p. 33). The question in this case is; does leader’s self insight assessments proves effective for learners and offers opportunities for improving leadership? In constructing this paper it was found that chapter three and chapter four contains a total of eight leader’s self-insight exercises in the form of questionnaires, scenarios and activities, all providing self-assessments for learners and offering opportunities for leadership roles. The question remains how will we perform under pressure and respond as a work group leader while, focusing on how the leader’s self-insight contributes...

...discuss the benefits of self evaluation/self assessment as it relates to leaders today. Understanding human behavior is critical to managers at all levels inside any organization. Individual managers within the organization can especially benefit from conducting self-evaluations. It is essential for managers to be self -ware and understand how their own behavior and personality can give them a better perspective while working with others. Being self-aware allows one to recognize and improve their strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize their leadership potential. In Organizational Behavior, Robins & Judge (13th Edition) tell us that organizational behavior is the knowledge gained about individuals, groups and the effect of structure on behavior in order to make organizations work more effectively. A major goal for any organization should be to work more effectively and to continuously make improvements, this is summarized by the Japanese Philosophy of Kaizen. For an organization to strive to continuously improve the leadership and management must adapt and learn. There are many ways in which a manager can strive to improve and one of those is through self-evaluation. What is a self-assessment or evaluation? Daniel Goleman (2000. Page 80) tells us that an accurate self-assessment is a “realistic evaluation of your strengths and limitations” . A manager conducting a self-evaluation can evaluate...
