Team B shares a common goal to achieve an A grade in Communications for Accountants. This paper explores various leadership styles that would influence our group communication in a way that best fits our personalities and needs. Initially we had a great degree of variance in which style we chose, but the team decided that transformational leadership is the best fit. We will discuss each style that we initially chose and the reasons why we agreed on transformational leadership.
Transitional leadership is used to guide the followers of a leader toward an established goal by informing the followers what role they will play and what the task requirements are for that role. People tend to do better when they know what is expected of them. People who know what role they play in reaching a goal also tend to be more focused and productive. Transitional leadership is a style of leadership that is easy to follow; however, there are four methods that a manager may use to make the style more productive.
The first method is the contingent reward. This means that the leader may reward the follower for playing their role and meeting their task requirements. The rewards can be anything so long as the follower feels that they have been recognized. The second method is the active form of management by exception which means that the leader watches for the followers to deviate from the task and then punishes the follower for not staying on task. The third method is the passive form of management by exception which means that the leader only intervenes when they must like if the goal is not reached. The fourth method is the laissez-faire which means that the leader guides the followers towards the goal by allowing others to make decisions for them. All of the methods aid the style in being the best for goals to be met by both the leader and the followers.

As well as the reading, I completed an assessment “What’s Your Leadership Style?” (About.com). This assessment, as well as my reading of the material identified my style as participative and situational leadership.
