Introduction
Muslims has agreed about the Holy Qur`an is a miraculous appearance of a message for humanity formulated directly by God himself in his own words and conserves by his promise and power. Moreover, the Qur`an itself tells us again and again that it consists of bayyinat, knowledge through as clear as possible in a human language. It also tells us that it explains everything. Actually the Qur`an is the primary source of Islamic teaching, and then the Hadith is a secondary source of Islamic teaching. However, In term of business Islam also support business activity that already stated in Qur’an and Hadist.
Based on the hadist riwayat Tarmizi, Rasulullah SAW stated about the sustenance come from business. Since in Rasulullah SAW civilization all of kind uncertainty business was forbidden, it has related to the amount that is not specifically provided for the goods to be exchanged or transferred. Meanwhile enhanced the glory days of Islam (Umayyads and Abbasids descendants) where contribution is to identify business practices Islam has done must be in appropriate with Islam, beside that systematic and formalize business practices and finance to legal standards that are based on Islamic law, Al-Qur 'an and Sunnah.
In Islam, business as one of activity very noble and also sunnah prayer. As we as know Shariah business principles in Islam are Qur’an and Hadist, that have indications of non interest or Usury. Absolutely, business management that interacts with its environment must use the norms, rules and paradigms that clearly should prevent business from a base usury. In fact in the economic system that continues until now, usury has become the most factor in the economic life people both nationally and internationally. As a consequence the business certainly faced with a situation complexity of the economic system that affected by the prevailing economic system today. Therefore, it is relatively difficult to avoid business Muslims in doing business without interest or usury. But it doesn’t have means that the business doing can’t attempt free of elements rate.
The release will be determined by the individual each business. It's depends the individual and each business that are internally committed to achieving our welfare by application business system without usury in the middle of the existing economic system. In this assignment, it's more discussing detail about the basic elements that are prohibition in Islamic business, deviate from the Shariah, ad become null and void (fasid) such as Riba (usury), Gharar (uncertainty), and Maysir (gambling). Actually in this assignment will be focusing on the Riba or Usury that take up the understanding about definition of Riba, Evidence (dalil) for its prohibition, and the impact of Riba in daily life. Moreover it will be supported by the journal articles stated about Riba.
Definition Riba' (Usury)
Actually Riba comes from an Arabic word that derivative from the verb raba that exactly means ‘to grow’ or ‘expand’ or ‘increase’ or ‘inflate’ or ‘excess’. It means overstated the current loan repayment amount based on a percentage of the principal loan amount, which is charged to the borrower. Riba is generally translating into English called as “usury” or “interest”, but in fact it has a much broader sense in the Shari`ah. Riba in the Shari`ah. In fiqh terms, riba means an increase in one of two homogeneous equivalents being exchanged without this increase being accompanied by a return.
Based on the International Shari'ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance also known as ISRA (2012: 177) stated about Riba is unlawful gain derived from the quantitative inequality of the counter values in any transaction purporting to affect the exchange of two or more species which belong to the same genus and are governed by the same efficient cause. Deferred completion of exchange of such species may also amount to riba whether or not the deferment is accompanied by increase in any one of the exchanged counter values.
Based on Muhammad Mazhar Iqbal stated the definition of the Riba or also known as usury is an inflated rate of interest compounded at short intervals which must be paid and charged by financial intermediaries, hereafter called bank interest. Actually bank interest is also considering as outside the ambit of riba. Thus, riba encompasses bank interest as well. The conservative view is that in addition to usury or bank interest or both, riba also includes all forms of economic exploitation of the poor by the rich like profiteering and paying of subsistence wages to laborers.
Riba is not restricted to increase in loan transaction to deferment of time of payment, as it might also occurs in any unjustified excess above and beyond the capital, whether in loan between creditor and deflector or in trade with similar commodities. Based on the hadith stated about riba is gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, and salt for salt, like for like, equal for equal and hand for hand, if commodities differ then you may sell as you wish provided that the hand to hand (Sahih al-Muslim).
In Islam, take a riba or get extra money from loan is forbidden, because Riba is the prohibited payment or receipt of interest on loans of money. However, if riba is, in essence define as as interest then the entire present civil and commercial structure is tainted with illegality. Riba same with the act of consuming someone else's property without risk, easy obtained the rich over the poor grief and damage to the human spirit to work for money.
THE CONCEPT OF RIBA
In Islam, Riba is forbidden and take a riba or get an extra from loan is forbidden. Actually riba also called interest which means an unjust and exploitative that already stated by Mosad Zineldin as an author of a book on Islamic or Interest-free banking observes about the most important thing and the most difficult right now is issue of the Islamic position with respect to the abolition of riba especially in usury, and a positive rate of interest. It is important because the Islamic commandment to eliminate it signifies a distinctive socio-economic philosophy, which abhors social exploitation in all forms, including “unbalanced” and iniquitous financial relationships.

It is difficult because the abolition of riba is in fact a signal for not only a financial rearrangement, but, even more fundamentally, for a restructuring of the entire economic system along Islamic lines. If Riba applying in business daily life, it will be making an exploitation for a poor people, whilst that already stated in the al-Quran message of justice about protecting the weak and vulnerable, the entire notion of justice in this regard is supposed to be blind, throughout dealing with the rich or poor people. However, Riba will be exploitation seriously in term of the financial, because the borrower must be paid extra money to lender in order to fulfill the interest that already agreed.

Based on the son of Zayd b. Aslam (d. 136/754) stated about the way of riba was doubled and redouble in the pre Islamic. Furthermore, in the pre-Islamic riba consist of the double of the money or commodities that the borrower need to paid to the creditor, which agreement such as will you pay me more or increase in other word the debt, meaning that the debt would be doubled to be pain in one year, if the debt can't be paid it would be doubled again. For instance, one hundred in one year would become two hundred. If that was not paid, the debt would increase to four hundred. Each year the debt would be doubled. In shortly, Riba is the prohibited payment or receipt of interest on loans of money. According to Aristoteles, that riba as a result of improper because it is obtained from another people and he argues that money cannot make money.

Infiqh, we can classified two riba 1. Riba happened to buying and selling
The first group of riba can classified become 2 kinds of riba are riba fadl and riba nasi’ah :
a. Riba fadl
It means exchange goods ribawi with good ribawi with different doses or one of them give additional advantages or the other.
For example : Sell gold for gold, or silver with silver in which one of them gives certain additional. So this kind of riba happened the elements of riba because the exchange factor. Not because of the suspension of payments factor.
b. RibaNasi’ah is change good with other goods with different doses and no delivery of the goods at the time of sale and purchase transactions in the local contract. So the goods are made in the future. Therefore the riba happenedbecause deferral of payment.
2. Riba happened to debt transactions
The second group of riba can classified become 2 kinds of riba are riba qard dan riba jahiliyah : a. Riba Qard, Is an extra or excess levels of certain required to people who owe. b. RibaJahiliyah is charged in addition to the principal of the loan and the borrower that is unable to return the principal at the time specified.
Al-Qur'an Surah Al Baqarah verse 130 Allah says means:
"Hi everyone - believers do not be excessive or devour usury doubled and bertaqwalah to God that ye may prosper" From the Hadith the Prophet Muhammad said: Surely that ribausual occurs the sale and purchase of debt or credit (HR.Buchari, Muslim and Ahmad).
Example of Riba : For instance, most individuals would prefer RM 100 today over RM 105 in one year, but prefer in twenty years over RM 100 in ninetee, Those and other”time preference anormalies” suggest that individually inconsistent”in their saving, spending, and borrowing behavior. The conclusion is that individuals tend to discount the immediate future (e.g., one year from now) much more severely than they discount over a similar period later in the future (e.g., between nineteenth and twentieth years).

Business was highly recommended by the prophet Muhammad SAW. Surely the business mush follow the business rules in Islam. But all of activity business that we do can’t transaction that have element of riba, gharar and maisir, because the element are forbidden in Islamic business and trade. Then if we do one of them between riba, gharar or maisir, so one of them will loss. can cause the transaction its not certainty and unclear.
In era globalization, the prohibition of riba, gharar and maisir not relevant because financial market contains business that have risk for other people (such as conventional assurance, capital market and other finance transaction contain element of gambling). Every business certain have a risk and can’ not be avoid. The system is being removed by Islam, so the process of transactions keep good and gathering can stay in touch and don’t cause enmity who the people doing transaction in financial market.
So, That is the one of thing that are prohibited in the sake and purchase activities in Islamic business. All prohibitions and restriction reflects the perfection and completeness in Islam. All these forbidden things are the things that can cause harm and distress to humans. But if people hold the teaching and guidance of Islam, surely we will get Allah’s

The Dalil about the prohibition of Riba, Gharar and Maisyir in Islamic Business
3.1 Dalil of Riba
Some Dalil in Al Qur’an and sunnah state about riba is not allowed in Islamic business a) QS. Ar-Ruum 39

This surah explain about that riba is extra and if we use riba in business we will not get the pleasure of Allah SWT because it same as multiply something.
B) QS. An-nissa 161

“And [for] their taking of usury while they had been forbidden from it, and their consuming of the people's wealth unjustly. And we have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment”.
That’s Surah An- Nisa 161 down in the city of Al-Madinah .explain about. Thissurah explain about riba is banned for Jewish.

c) QS Al-Baqarah 275

Means :
“Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity. That is because they say, "Trade is [just] like interest." But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah . But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein”

What can you do to be seen as a leader? Those are just a few of the questions we’ll try to answer in this chapter. Focus on the following learning outcomes as you read and study this chapter. LEARNING OUTCOMES 18.1 Define leader and leadership. 18.2 Compare and contrast early theories of leadership. 18.3 Describe the three major contingency theories of leadership. 18.4 Describe contemporary views of leadership. 18.5 Discuss contemporary issues affecting leadership. SPOTLIGHT: Manager at Work What is the difference between being a manager and being a leader? Are these terms synonymous? Management guru Peter F. Drucker once said, “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” You might begin the study of Chapter 18 by asking your students for their perspectives on these questions and the quotation from Dr. Drucker. This chapter’s Spotlight: Manager at Work, looks at the legacy of Steve Jobs. In many ways, Jobs epitomizes the leader of a high tech company. How he was extremely charismatic and extremely compelling in getting people to join with him and believe in his vision. But also how he was despotic, tyrannical, abrasive, uncompromising, and a perfectionist. Jobs broke the rules of management and remade them to fit his vision. Students...

...EFFECTIVE TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP ACROSS CULTURES: THE ROLE OF CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION COMPETENCE Dr. Alexi Matveev College of Staten Island New York, NY, USA Dr. Elena Lvina Concordia University Montreal, Quebec, Canada Abstract New theoretical frameworks are needed to better understand effective transformational leadership in different cultural contexts. In this article we illustrate the relationship between transformational leadership and the cross-cultural communication competence frame. We show how national culture orientations and cross-cultural communication competence affect the full range leadership framework and transformational leadership dimensions. Attributes of effective leadership and the choice of communication strategies vary for different cultural contexts; however, the charismatic or value-based leadership dimension contributes the most to universally perceived effective leadership styles. We draw attention to the importance of transformational leadership research utilizing the cross-cultural communication competence construct. Introduction Transformational leaders rely heavily on their rhetorical skills in order to articulate a vision and create meaning for their followers. While the leader's message is important, the process by which it is communicated appears to be just as significant. The communication style is a critical distinguishing factor in whether the leader’s message will be remembered and endorsed. Flauto...

Leadership

...Leadership emerges every level of organisations, from animal social behaviors to multi-international organisations. But no single universally accepted definition could be drew with all the scholars agree. There are 211 different definitions of about leadership (Rost 1993). Claimed by one of the researchers on transformational leadership, Bernard M. Bass (2008), there is no urge to unify the definitions of leadership. The appropriate definition of leadership depends on the specific dimension of leadership of interest to the individual. In this essay, the definition from Peter Northhouse (2001) will be adopted, “leadership is a process whereby one individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal”. This essay will discuss two leadership models; transformational and transactional leadership, followed by the illustration of the features by 2 known leaders of different leadership models. The corresponding evaluation of the models will also be examined. Transformational leadership, the most studied idea with the field of leadership (Diaz-Saenz, 2011, p. 299), is the process of transforming the attitudes of the followers to achieve extraordinary outcomes in organisation’s objectives (Yukl &Fleet, 1992, 174), consisting of four features. Barack Obama is one of the great leaders who possesses certain features of transformational leadership. Idealised influence: By overcoming his rigorous childhood brought by the multiracial heritage (Obama, 2008) and having a rare...

Leadership

...Johnson English Comp. 1 30 October 2013 Leadership Leadership is originally defined as the act or an instance of leading, but that is not other people’s definition. To some people, leadership means so much more and others not so much. Leadership is something not everyone has, but some people want. Some people tend to follow instead of lead others. Leadership is taking a role and standing up for something or someone when no one else will. Taking up for someone when he/she is being bullied, taking the lead role around school, and leading others on the right path; not the wrong one are great characteristics of leadership. Taking up for someone when he/she is being bullied definitely defines this person as a leader in some people’s eyes. People look at leadership and think of the president or high officials. When others look at leadership, they see all the little details like taking up for someone when he/she is being bullied. In today’s society, the number one cause for suicide is bullying and when someone decides to be a leader and stand up is when he/she has the role of leadership. Standing for someone that is being bullied is a characteristic not everyone has because some people do not care and others are afraid to take a stand. Taking the lead role at your school or anywhere else is a prime example of leadership. Taking a lead on a school project, helping out at the school, or just cleaning up are all great examples of leadership. Taking the lead role is a characteristic...

Leadership

...LEADERSHIP UNCUT | Brian Evje Jan 30, 2013 Quick: Define Leadership If you don't know what your leadership is, how are you going to make it persuasive to others? Only a few people have a solid answer. When first working with a client, I ask, “What is your definition of your leadership?”   Invariably, a pause follows. The eventual response is sometimes tentative, confused, or incomplete.  This happens with new and experienced leaders, in large companies and in start-ups.  Only a few people have a solid answer. Not many leaders have a clear, concise, concrete definition of what being a leader means to them. The eminent leadership scholar Ralph Stogdill observed, “There are nearly the same number of leadership definitions as there are people who have attempted to define it.”  Here are just a few perspectives: * “The first job of a leader is to define a vision for the organization…the capacity to translate vision into reality.” (Warren Bennis) * “Leadership is a series of behaviors rather than a role for heroes.” (Margaret Wheatley) * “Leadership: the art of getting someone else to do something that you want done because he wants to do it.” (Dwight D. Eisenhower) It is no wonder then, that a ready answer is not on the lips of every leader. But the lack of a compelling, individual definition can be a serious defect. Why Define Your Leadership? When asked, “Why should I have a definition for my leadership?” I answer, “What is the cost of not understanding the foundation...

Leadership

...Leadership is a reciprocal relationship between like-minded leaders and followers to achieve a realistic and positive change through empowerment and planning. My definition of leadership is based on what I have learned in my leadership studies as well as my personal experiences with leadership throughout my life. I use aspects from some of the previous definitions of leadership that once were used and accepted. I personally believe that leadership can be rightly defined in many different ways depending on the circumstances that are used to describe it. This being said, my definition of leadership should not be considered the only one that is plausible, rather one that should be used in the instances that I have been a part of. Before I go forward and describe in more detail, I feel it is fitting to give a brief description of some of the past leadership definitions and styles that have affected me. Leadership has been defined in many different ways ever since it was first described in academics. Some of the theories that have affected my leadership the most are the situational leadership theory, charismatic leadership, and leadership as a social change. These are not the only ones that I believe have sculpted the way I choose to be a leader, but they are the most important ones to me. The situational leadership theory of leadership can best be described as a leadership style that is flexible to change. This style of leaderships asserts that the situation will dictate how...

Leadership

...There are many differences between management and leadership. Management relies on positional power, that is authority or status. It depends on the rules, structures and systems within an organisation, which surround a job. Leadership relies on personal power. This comes from the ability to develop strong and mutually rewarding relationships. It depends upon good interpersonal skills, positive personal characteristics and supportive behaviour. The key to leadership is influence. Leadership is a facet of good management but a leader does not necessarily have the positional power of a manager. The crux of this comparison between management and leadership is one of choice. People choose to follow and commit to a leader but a manager must be followed. We are emotional animals and the commitments we make based on our emotions are forcible. Management The manager’s primary commitment is to the employing organisation. His/her job is to manage members of the organisation in achieving that organisation’s goals using his/her positional power. Good management involves: • Information Control (Keeping people informed about issues which affect them) • Resources control (Allocated on the basis of business priority) • An Appraisal system (Using performance indicators and objectives as the basis of appraisal) • Job Seniority (Giving clear instructions for tasks) • Specialist Expertise (Sharing expertise to help and develop others) • Rewards and Punishment (Using rewards fairly and transparently...

Out in front leading people or coordinating the work of the group? Destined to be a leader or developed to be a leader? The way we think about leadership affects how we perceive the leaders around us. For instance, if we expect a leader to be a hero, we are likely to see someone who takes charge to save the day as a good leader and someone who asks everyone’s opinions and lets the group make decisions as weak. Alternatively, if we think a leader should be collaborative and focused on making sure decisions arise from the group, we would view someone who is directive as aggressive or a tyrant. our beliefs about how people become leaders affect how we evaluate people’s leadership potential. Believing people are born leaders is likely to result in a focus more on selecIn the same way, tion (identify the right people) rather than on development (develop the people you get). On the other hand, believing that people are made into leaders by their experiences would be more likely to result in a greater focus on making sure people had the right opportunities to develop into leaders. ...Leadership Questions Elizabeth Geevarghese NUR/492 Leadership Questions Leadership and management are essential to any organization. The effectives of leadership and management influence the success of the organization. Leaders guide the direction to the group, and the managers focus on the achievements of the organization. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the personal views of leadership, differentiate between management and leadership and explain the characteristics of an effective leader. Personal Views of Leadership In my opinion, the leader must have the potential to motivate the team members. A leader must be able to communicate effectively as well as have good listening skills. In my Personal view, a health care leader must be able to make detrimental decisions, able to work in a diverse community, culture, people and yet maintain tenacity and professionalism. My preference is to work with a leader who respects a healthcare professional, and not function on the basis of dictatorship whereby nurses are comfortable approaching the head with their problems or concerns. A leader needs to be consistent, visionary, confident, assertive, yet fair and open-minded so that the team members trust them, and together they attain the goals and be a success. Leadership and Management There is a close relationship between leadership and management, but they have different concepts. A leader is one who impacts others and uses interpersonal skills to achieve the goal...
