...A LEAN PLAN Green Acres will identify a Lean Operations Plan and ways to reduce or the wastes produced in our production or project and service development. To be lean: • Identify customers and specify value, recognize that even a small fraction of our efforts and time adds value for the end customer. • Identify the value stream – the entire set of activities through the stages of our Neighborhood Designs project – and create flow by eliminating wastes. The value stream represents the end-to-end process that delivers value to the customer. • Produce only the products that the customer wants. Value depends of customer's desires and is pulled from the provider by the customer. • Pursue perfection – every action and asset adds value for the end customer. There are several potential wastes involved in the areas of production, project and service development. The first is waiting – long intervals between operations – which would cause a loss of time and add costs if a lot of units of the Neighborhood remain vacant. Another is transportation, as it is an additional concern for our processes, incurs cost and adds no value to the operation. Unnecessary Inventory could also affect our operation or performance. The negative impact on agricultural lands of the project, too, will also add a high cost to the project. Finally, we intend to support the reduction of the burning of fossil fuels by reducing the need for automobiles. (cardiff.ac.uk), (Maltzman 180). Plan...

...CASE STUDY OF PARTNERING IN LEAN CONSTRUCTION Per Erik Eriksson Management and Business Administration, Luleå University of Technology ABSTRACT Lean construction is a relatively immature literature field in need of unbiased theoretical reasoning and case studies in order to investigate how lean thinking can be applied in a construction project context. The purpose of this paper is to increase the understanding of how various measures of lean thinking can be implemented in a construction project and how these measures work. In order to enhance unbiased theoretical reasoning a frame of reference is first developed through a literature review of peer-reviewed journal articles. The empirical part of the research utilises a lean construction pilot project as a case study. Empirical data was mainly collected through a series of three questionnaire surveys, responded by project participants that were involved in the lean implementation effort (approximately 30 responses) and three follow-up workshops in which the key individuals from all partner companies participated (15-20 individuals). The author of this paper functioned as a facilitator and action researcher, responsible for the design and analysis of the surveys and for planning and facilitating the workshops. Document studies and interviews of twelve project participants were also conducted in order to increase the richness of the case study data. The empirical results show that many of the lean related measures identified in...

...Technology, Sydney Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology 49002 Managing Projects Assignment 1 – Research on Lean Project Management Task Write a research-focused report that investigates and discusses how the principles, theory, processes and tools of Lean Production Delivery Systems (LPDS) can be applied to current project management practices. This is an individual assignment for both Standard and Distance Mode students. Overview There are several global trends, particularly rapid rates of change in technological, social, environmental and economic areas, that expose the inherent difficulties in meeting increasingly stringent clients’ needs. Project-based initiatives have been increasingly used as a very good way to deal with rapid rates of change, with a large effort to disseminate project management as a standard way to deliver increasingly sophisticated products. However, the strong emphasis on time, cost and quality may not necessarily ensure that rapid and constantly changing needs can be adequately and comprehensively addressed. Of all the approaches to production management, the theory and principles drawn from Lean Production Delivery Systems (LPDS) seem to be best suited for enhancing project management practices. You will investigate and discuss how the application of lean approaches, such as lean construction, lean manufacturing and lean thinking, to the management of projects and production address these concerns and enhance the value that is delivered...

...Summary More than ever before, the project management becomes a matter of concern. Through applying the various types of managerial methods, processes and tools, the project can results in different profits. Due to the intense competition of market, an emerging system has been created, called the Lean Production Delivery System. In the report, it investigates, analyzes and discusses the methods, processes and tools in current project management approaches and LPDS. Through the comparison of them, the report concludes that the traditional project management is steady and reliable, still the main stream for the current environment. Furthermore, the LPDS is modern and excellent, but it is open to question. Introduction In recent decades, project management plays an essential role in various areas, from the architecture, national defense, and aerospace to the computer, telecommunications, financial industry and even government agencies. Project management developed after the Second World War as one of the new management technologies, organized in the United States. It is defined as that the project managers use the systematic views, methods and theories to effectively manage and operate all the works involved the project, under the condition of limited resource. In other words, project management is planning, organizing, conducting, coordinating, controlling and evaluating from the start of invested...

Introduction The network diagram provides project managers with information about how the tasks are connected, how long will each task takes and shows all the tasks in the sequential or concurrent way (Taylor, 2008). There are two common methods for constructing network diagrams which are activity-on-arrow (AoA) and activity-on-node (AoN). However, these two methods have some fundamental differences and in practice, the question that which is better, has been asked on many occasions. Hence, this part of essay will analyze the differences between AoA and AoN and carry out some research that why they are different. In addition, these two choices of network diagrams will be illustrated under the academic circumstance and finally, end up with conclusion. 2. Comparison between AoA and AoN Activity-on-arrow diagram provides project planners with a useful tool to express the logical process of work plan for their project. For example, due to AoA diagrams use arrows...

Write down the number hits that you received for each of these phrases find at least 3 web sites that provide interesting information on one of the topics write a two page paper summarizing key information about these 3 web sites as well as project management institution’s Web site (www.pmi.org). Gant charts were dominantly used in the beggings of project management however in the 1950’s Entire jobs and professional careers were made around the idea of a “project manager”. Now in beginning of the 21st century technology has revolutionized the field of project management once again. My research and search results have shown that Project Management Jobs have sustained demand over the last 8 years compared to the general field of technology jobs which has seen steep decline since 2004. Google Trends Analysis One of the articles I had read form InformationWeek was titled “Project management Gets Lean” (IT can't afford to do projects the old way. Lean project management gives a better picture of success or failure.) In this article they explain a scenario where workers feel like projects are happening to them and not because of them. The article goes on to say that, Project managers can get so wrapped up in Gantt chars and forecasting that they often don’t look at the overall picture and this can...

...Lean Project Management A research of Lean Production Delivery Systems on methods, processes and tools Zhiyuan Wang Author Note This report answers topic three This report was prepared for 49002 Project Management, taught by Elizabeth Bourke Abstract Current project management practices been found that have inherent difficulties in meeting increasingly stringent clients’ needs. However, it seems that the theories and principles of Lean Production Delivery Systems (LPDS) are the best approaches of all sorts of management theories. This assignment makes a brief Investigates and discusses of LPDS and analyses how to apply the principles, theories, processes and tools to current project management practices. This assignment concentrates on topic three and compares the difference between current and LPDS approaches in methods, processes and tools. Lean Project Management A research of Lean Production Delivery Systems on methods, processes and tools Background Before people name it Lean Production Delivery Systems1 (LPDS), many American experts call it TPS which is short for Toyota Production System (Womack et al., 1990). This production system been called as just-in-time production at the beginning state. It was created and developed by the founder of Toyota, in order to gain higher quality and lower cost, in the 1950 s. This production system became famous and been paid more attention by experts when Toyota made much profit during 1970s economic crisis while other...

...Discuss the project plan: The lean management program is designed to improve employee productivity and customer satisfaction in our blood and urine laboratory by renovating the existing laboratory space and implementing new standards. This will be done in several different ways, the first is by renovating the storage area to provide more storage overall while at the same time removing a dangerous habit of the laboratory staff by over-stocking the inadequate shelving units that are located in the storage area. This poses not only a risk of injury but is also against OSHA regulations of “stacking items on shelving units within eighteen inches of the ceiling”. The second way that this will help improve employee productivy is by reducing the amount of time it takes to retrieve needed supplies, by streamline the storage process it will remove wasted time that it takes for laboratory technicians to retrieve the supplies needed. Buissness case: The current case of affairs is for customers to enter the laboratory and retrieve a ticket number from the counter, when their ticket is called they are processed at the front desk then moved to another waiting area. Once they are next in line they are taken to an individual curtained off room and a technician finds out if they are there for a blood draw or a urine sample. The technician then retrieves the needed supplies and returns to the customer who then provides the needed sample. The technician then labels the specimen and takes it...
