On the other hand, collaborative and active e -learning is seen to be an approach capable of fostering these highly desirable outcomes in the learning process. However, given the pragmatic needs and constraints of teaching and learning in Higher Education (HE), lectures are still the prevalent mode of imparting knowledge to students. In order to try and improve the learning experience of students undertaking a course in Information Systems, the research team, with considerable experience in online learning, tried to combine objectivist lectures with a moderate constructivist learning process facilitated by a WebCT online resource. This paper presents the design and development of such an e -learn ing environment and discusses how e -learning can be applied to complement and support traditional on-campus teaching.
