Mathematics is also a subject that has a direct relationship with other subjects, particularly technical and sciences. Therefore, Mathematics, as a school subject must be learned comprehensively and with much depth. Everyone has the ability to learn the subject, although some people learn and make connections more quickly than others. It is a familiar notion that people learn mathematics in different ways. Some people remember best what they have seen. Others are good in words. Some may be competent in solving problems but have difficulty learning mathematics formula. There are students who are good with their hands or who have creative, artistic talent and flair but who have difficulty with more formal mathematics learning and who do not see themselves as able learners at all. Students with positive attitudes toward learning mathematics are likely to be motivated and prepared to learn, participate...

...CHAPTER I The Problem and Its Background Introduction For many years, educators and researchers have debated which school variables influence student achievement. As policy-makers became more involved in school reform, this suggestion takes on new importance since their many initiatives rely on presumed relationships between various education-related factors and learning outcomes. Some researches have suggested that “schools bring little influence to bear upon a child’s achievement test is independent of his background and general social context.” (Coleman et. al. 1966; Jenks et. al. 1972). Other evidence suggests that factors like class size (Glass, et. al. 1982; Mosteller, 1995), teacher qualification (Ferguson, 1991), school size (Holler, 1993), and other school variables may play an important role in influencing learning. As new standard for new learning continues to be introduced in the country, hence, greater attention is given to the role teacher plays in student achievement. While some evidence suggests that better qualified teachers may make a difference in student learning at the school and district levels. There is also increasing inquiry into the exact predictors that affect teacher efficiency vis-à-vis student level of achievement. Teaching competence and teacher impact on students may largely determine whether or not the student will fail or succeed in his studies. Through students’ individual differences need to be considered in the teaching-learning...

...Hennessy Grand Canyon University: EDA 577 February 23, 2013 Plan Do Study Act: Carter High School and Ninth Grade Algebra Many of the ninth grade students at Carter high school lack basic skills in math. So in previous years when these students were placed in algebra classes they did not do well at all. As a result they have been re-placed into algebra as a ninth grader. In our district all students are placed in algebra in the eighth grade. This is because on the California Star Test, the middle schools are docked points if the students in eighth grade do not take the algebra portion of the state test. So even if the student has many remedial problems they still place them in algebra classes so that they can take the algebra test. This often sets these students up to fail algebra in eighth grade and as a result they must retake algebra as ninth grade students. Students in the Rialto Unified School District are not ever held back so when students struggle in sixth grade math they still are moved on to seventh grade math and so on. Well once they get to ninth grade it is the first time in their lives that they will have to repeat a class. So many of them are upset that they are not in Geometry with their other friends, however, they are usually pretty low in certain math skills. Now imagine for a minute everyone in all of your classes, if you are an algebra teacher, have all failed their math class the year before, not one single student has passed his class. This...

...said congratulations you have mastered all available topics. I took the test twice and got the same results both times so I’m not sure what I need to be working on next. How do the skills apply to your academic life? I think the writing skills apply in your life in many ways. Using the correct punctuations and spelling can be very important in your academic life. If you do not know how to spell or punctuate, you could lose points on your homework etc. Regardless I think that being able to write full sentences, punctuate, and spell are very important in your academic life. How do the skills apply to your professional life? I think that these skills apply in your professional life by how you present yourself. If you cannot write or spell when you turn in an application or something, you most likely will not get the job. People do tend to judge you by how you write. If you turn in an application and you are a good writer and speller, than the person reviewing your application tends to have a better interpretation of who you are and how smart you are. People might think that you might not be able to do a certain job if you can’t even spell. Were you surprised by the results? Why or why not? I was a little surprised by the results because I thought there would have been something I needed to work on. I know I’m pretty good at spelling, I mean I’m not saying I’m perfect but I thought there would at least been one topic I needed to work...

...7/29/12 UNIV103, Unit 2 IP Ghosts of Educations past Coming back to school after so long was daunting, but I could not have been happier for making the choice I have. In my first course I have been asked to complete an exercise called the MFL Path Builder. As I worked on this request I found I remembered much more than I thought I would, and forgotten just as much. There are three basic topics that include Writing, Reading, and Math. In high school I was very good at math, but I found I am just a little lacking in memory of all the rules math requires. Whereas I never excelled at English in high school; but was pleasantly surprised when I mastered 3 out of 4 modules in Reading. Oddly enough though in Writing, I completely tanked. After finding out just how much I have remembered and forgotten after so long, I find I am very anxious to get started on all the topic’s contained in each module. I started my IP by setting aside time to myself each night to focus on completing the MFL Path Builders. After completing the path builders for each topic I believe it did just what it should have done. It showed me just what I need to re-learn and catch up on. I feel that this tool was made to help new students that have been out of school for a long time; succeed in their education, and give us the same chances as those students who have just gotten out of other educational programs. I was pleasantly surprised buy the tool this program has given me and my chances to...

...Process Analysis Have you ever wanted to learn at least the basics of how to drive a manual transmission? If so, it a process that takes time but once you have it down, it’s a skill that you will never lose. Almost like a second nature. Learning how to drive a manual transmission opens an entirely new world of driving. Your mpg increases, you have better reliability, and you also have enhanced control over the vehicle. When learning how to drive a manual transmission there are thirteen main basic steps that you need to learn. First you need to get on level ground. When learning how, it is best if you can roll down the windows, this will help you better hear the engine sound so that you can know how when to adjust the gears also, don't forget to wear your seat belt. Secondly, you will need to learn to identify the pedals. In a manual car, there are three pedals. The pedal to the far right is the gas, also known as the accelerator, the middle pedal is the brake and to the far left is the clutch. The third step, one of the most important steps, is to learn what the clutch does. The clutch disengages the engine from the driveshaft allowing you to shift the gears on your transmission. Before you switch gears, the clutch must be depressed. Fourth step is to find the clutch pedal - the one to the far left - when you have identified the clutch begin to press it down and hold it to the floor. Also, it is a good idea to get used to steadily and slowly releasing the clutch...

...develop diverse communication skills, such as talking, listening, and writing. Writing is an integral skill that enables a person articulate their ideas in a commonsensical manner. Although I am not a good writer, as I would like to be, I have made tremendous improvements over the years. Several factors have influenced my writing ability to the level I have reached currently. My family background and school experience presented me with an opportunity to become an exceptional writer, while social influences had an insignificant effect in bettering my skills. Primarily, my family background has a significant effect in my mastery of writing. I saw people writing at home, as my parents read and wrote frequently. My parents have an inherent respect and value for writing. They regularly expressed a love for writing and implored us to read and write as much as possible. We had a small book library at our home, comprising of newspapers, novels, and research books. Home libraries have a significant influence on development of an interest in reading and writing (Bonci, 2010). Initially, I only read magazines, but it was only after I started reading longer books with chapters, that I developed the skill to organize ideas. For that reason, my family background has had a significant effect in the writing skills. In addition, my school experience was prominent in making me a good writer. I had a few exceptional teachers who encouraged me to better my writing skills. Specifically, my literature...

...in your lecture, and write a 250-300 word essay about what you learned from the video. Answer the following questions: Which type of power do you find most effective? Which type of power do you think that you have? Do you use it? If so, in what situations? How could you improve your leadership and management skills now that you have a better understanding of the types of power and how they are applied? Remember, always add the 'whys' with the 'whats.' From the video, I was able to better ascertain how I use power. i don’t think I was ever consciously aware of the type of power I was using at any given time. I was exhibiting them, but not being effective; am I truly using these types of power at the right time? Am I taking advantage of some of the benefits? Those are some of the questions I came away with after viewing each video. Referent power is in my opinion one of the more effective out of the bases of social power. It relies heavily on interpersonal skills; which involves active listening and persuasion. Very early on in my management career interpersonal skills were one of the “tools” that needed to be mastered. Referent power for all intents and purposes is therefore one of the best ways to lead an organization because it is based on collaboration and influence instead of command and control. Due to it’s collaborative nature it draws creativity from the people around you; people are inspired and invested because...
