In “Lennie Snopes, A Closer Look”, Sigrid Fowler makes a case explaining the influences both Lennie and Abner have on Sarty. Fowler begins his article explaining the importance of the mother. Lennie is the only light in the Snopes family. She tries her hardest to hide every sense of emotion, in order to prove loyalty to Abner. Just like Sarty, she feels the force Abner has on the family.
