...Letter to a friend Letter to a friend Dear friend, I am very sorry for all of your misfortunes that you and your son have encountered so here are some answers to your question, I hope all of this information helps you and can guide you in the right direction. I understand they did not read you your Miranda rights; however police required reading you your rights if you get arrested, if this does not happen it does not mean your case will automatically be thrown out. If the police have great deal of evidence that you did commit a crime, the officer did not need to rely on your answers to any question to convict you of your crime. ("Miranda Warning", 2007-2010) I understand that the police have not questioned you yet; it is recommended that you don’t talk to the police because you are more likely to dig yourself a hole. You need to get yourself as much knowledge and just keep your mouth shut until you have legal counsel present. In Missouri this is a class A misdemeanor to falsify student residence forms or waivers. This is a state offense because each state has its own requirements to guide them. This is punishable by up to a year in prison or up to a thousand dollar fine. Missouri residency requirements do not pertain to homeless children. Please keep this in mind. I think it is in your best interest to have an attorney for this reason and to advise you on what steps you need to take upon getting your son back. Sometimes one can be appointed for you if you cannot...

...Written assignment 1 29th August Dear Diana I owe you an apology, I am totally aware of my actions and the fact that I have not been a good friend to you. I guess the past year, might have been the hardest year in my entire life! I have dedicated myself to the school – and I hope you will be proud of me. I see that my last post was last summer right before senior year! I feel awful, but maybe I could make it up to you, by writing what has happened since last summer. Let me take you back too my last year at high school! At the end of the summer holidays, I told myself that I would do whatever it takes to get the highest grades in my entire year. I know it was an exaggerated wish, but as you may know I always do my best to achieve my goals! So the day before first day of school, I renewed all of my school stuff, I just threw it right in the thrash. I got new books, dictionaries and a new cupboard, so I could organize my folders and books into the different classes! Back then my closest friends; you know who - JJ, Michael and my boyfriend Jasper, just thought I was geeky and they would make jokes about it all the time. At first I did not bother being teased by them, I know it was meant in the kindest way! School started and I was prepared! School was a battlefield and I was a samurai warrior who would destroy everything, and win the battle! I always sit at front row and raised my hand every time I had the chance! I tried to keep in touch with JJ, M and Jasper; of...

...African American Letter to a Friend African American Letter to a Friend Dear Sonya, May 24, 2012 It is amazing everything that I have learned about my heritage and what my ancestors have gone through to achieve what we have today. The past week I have spent visiting my grandparents in Alabama who have done research and found out all about where we come from as a family. Also looking at what my ancestors went through to get to where we are today has taught me to be so appreciative to what I have. Researching my family history has shown me everything that my race has gone through in American history. The first day my grandmother showed me how far back they have traced my family history. It starts with the first of the slaves that were brought over to America, from Africa, in 1619. They were brought over to Jamestown, Virginia as indentured servants that were released after a certain period of time. Slavery was not legal until 1641 in Massachusetts, and then other states just followed them. This was when states also made it legal to sell and trade slaves from one owner to the next, even the women and children. By the 1700’s in the south about 25% or more of the population was slaves versus the north where there was only about 2% of the population was slaves. This is so sad that my ancestors were treated like objects and not human beings, how could people be so mean? The next day my grandparents explained to me about the African slaves during the American Revolutionary...

...To my friend, It has been brought to my attention that you have some questions about my race and my ethnic background. I am going to start this letter to you with the beginning of the story. My people had a very rocky start. In the mid 1500’s European mariners started to bring African Americans to America as slaves. They were forced to migrate. African Americans were captured and brought to be sold. Two out of five of the African Americans died on the move from the Atlantic seacoast to where they were sold to Europeans as slaves. When they were on board the vessels they were chained below decks in racks the size of coffins. They were sold to people who wanted them primarily for plantation workers. Slave owners had no rules as to what they were allowed to do to them. They could use very harsh punishments if they saw fit. A lot of times families were broke apart family members would be sold to different families. Even through this really hard time for these poor people slaves still managed to develop a strong cultural identity. When children were separated from their parents adult slaves at the plantations would take care of all of the children not just their own. Even though they faced separation daily slaves would quite often get married. The north had less slavery then the south. So a lot of times slaves who escaped would go to the north. The civil war brought an end to it being legal to own slaves but there were many other problems that came about after the Civil War. African...

...Dear Friend, I am writing to answer your questions. The failure to Mirandize you will not result in dismissal of your case. The police are not required to Mirandize you until before you are interrogated. Once you were taken into custody and before you are questioned they must provide you with the Miranda warnings. In order to have your case dismissed on the grounds of failure to Mirandize, the court would have to find that your Miranda rights were violated. Any evidence obtained from your statements without being Mirandized could be suppressed. Once you have been Mirandized any statements you make will and can be used against you. You should not engage in any conversations with the police without legal representation. Any statements you may have made prior to the Miranda rights being given to you can be used in court. Legal representations will ensure that you are not answering questions that may hurt your case. I did some research on your particular case. In that research I uncovered several similar instances. One such instance involved a homeless single mother named Tanya McDowell. Tanya was arrested for registering her son using her babysitters address. Tanya was charged with first degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first degree larceny. She is facing up to 20 years in prison along with a $15,000 fine to repay educating costs (Khalek, 2011). Tanya McDowell was sentenced to 12 years in prison but the judge suspended 7 years of the sentence. She will serve five years...

...University of Phoenix Material Letter to Friend Explaining Court Processes Your Learning Team receives the following letter from a former team member and friend: Dear Friends, I find myself in quite a predicament due to my own misfortune and bad judgment. My 6-year-old son and I were recently left homeless after I was laid off from my job and my house was taken by the bank. I enrolled my son in a nearby elementary school when school started in the fall. I used the address where I lived last, because I don’t have a current address. The school district discovered that I wasn’t living at that address and charged me with fraud. I was arrested yesterday and haven’t yet been to court. My son was placed in the care of protective services. I just want to get out of jail as soon as possible to reunite with my son. I have some questions, and I was hoping you could do some research to find the answers for me. • The police never read me my Miranda warnings. Will my case be dismissed as a result? • The police also haven’t questioned me yet. Should I agree to talk to them, if asked? • Is this considered a state or federal offense? • Will this be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony? • Do you think I really need an attorney? After all, I am guilty, and I can’t afford one. • I also don’t have any money for bail. Are there any options that would allow me to be released from custody prior to trial and that would not require money? • How do...

I am glad to hear that things are going so very well for you and your family. In your last letter I read that you would like to knowmore about my race and would like to use some of it for your paper for your class. I would be very happy to share some insight on my race and give you some background information on African Americans. The African decent has shaped the course of American history for over 500 years, such as the fight against slavery to the March on Washington. In the early 17th century white European settlers turned and went from indentured servants, which were mostly poorer Europeans to a cheaper labor source: the African slaves (History, 2009). In 1619 a Dutch ship brought 10 Africans to the British colony on Jamestown, Virginia. From that time on slavery spread quickly throughout the American colonies. The Stono Uprising in September of 1739 in South Carolina...

...Name Professor U.S. History 08 October 2012 A Letter to My Dearest Friend John Smith September 15, 1616 Dear John, Since I have met you I, Matoaka (Pocahontas), have matured into a great woman. Most people know me as "the most dear and well-beloved," but other people (Powhaton Tribe Members) still think of me as "the devil child or playful-one." In my opinion I am just a strong, resilient, self sacrificing, and overly caring lady of the Tidewater Region. Therefore embracing my new lifestyle as a Christian wife and mother is easy. When I was growing up in Werowocomoco which is about twelve miles outside Jamestown, Virginia I learned what I thought were necessary skills to being a good wife and mother but not how to be a colonial wife and mother. Being a colonial wife and mother means cooking, cleaning, sewing, making clothing, and assisting in raising baby Thomas to be a great man. In contrast to my tribes way of life where the good wife and mother constructs the house and everything associated with it, cooking and preparing food, gathering firewood, collecting water, rearing children, making clothing, planting, harvesting, making useful items (baskets, pots, wooden spoons), processing meats, tanning hides, and collecting plants. Apparently being a Powhaton mother and wife is harder than being a colonial one. I am really enjoying all the free time. In regards to my feelings I think I am finally in love with my husband John Rolfe. Even though I was forced to marry...

...Luke Weiner 9/4/16 “My Response to the Ethicist Problem” The letter sent to the ethicist was about one’s dilemma on whether it is the right thing to do by telling her friend’s husband about her affairs with other men. The author of the letter displays her disgust with her friend as well as her willingness to tell her husband about her affairs which would consequently end up with the loss of a very dear friend. The Ethicist begins his response by stating that marital affairs are no one else’s business but finds her friend’s reasons for remaining married as selfish because she is only in it in order to fulfill her own desires. If her friend showed any remorse or regret for her actions than this situation would be completely different. This is simply not the case and the ethicist reminds the letter writer of her disapproval and disgust towards her friend. The ethicist also references Aristotle in saying that friendship involves reciprocation and the happiness, which overwhelms them when they are in each other’s company. The...

...At the age of 17 I had done some things with my so called friends that landed me right into military school. I was the only one out of all of them to get into trouble. They all had told me they would keep in touch during the 6 months I was away at school. Early one cold morning we made the 3 hour journey to what I called hell but to others known as tarheel challenge military academy. When we got there and got settled in they went through the guidelines of what we can and can not do. One that caught my attention a lot was that we could not make any phone calls home for the first month we were there we could only wright letters. I was glad before left home I had got all of my friends addresses before I left. So the first couple of weeks went by and I had written all my friends letters but had yet to hear from any of them but two. I had just thought they had not got them or I wrote the wrong address. So I had wrote my mom and told her to get all the addresses again and send them to me again. While I was waiting for her letter back I was actually having a alright time at the school which was weird cause at first I had despised it. So about a week later I got a letter from my mom with a list of all my friends addresses. I sat in my bed that night and I wrote all my friends that were on that paper. I put them in the mail that night to so it would be about a week to get to them. So a week had gone by and no one had replied and this week...

...30/11/2013 Rhetorical Analysis of Advice to a Friend on Choosing Mistress Advice to a Friend on Choosing Mistress is a letter written by Benjamin Franklin in June 25th 1745 to his friend. The speech of this letter is essentially communicated to single men. The author gave advices particularly to his friend on which type of woman he should date if he is not ready to get married. Franklin preceded his lustful consulting by an apology for the marriage, recalling his friend how much carnal pleasures are favourable in a legal and recognized union. In his message, Franklin advises his friend that marriage is the best solution not for only sexual desires but also the undisputable source of solid happiness. Having suspicions that his friend would not follow his guidance, Franklin recommends him to choose older mistresses instead of younger ones and lists eight valuables reasons to better support his argument. Franklin commences his essay by presenting advantages of the marriage. He says ‘’ I know of no medicine fit to diminish the violent inclinations you mention…Marriage is the proper remedy. It is most natural state of man and therefore the state in which you can are most likely to find solid happiness’’. Through those sentences, Franklin seems to estimate that from a masculine’ view, one of the main advantages of the marriage is to bring pacification toward requirements of the flesh. The recipient of the letter who was the friend of the author seemed to be looking for a situation...

...Hester Prynne’s experience with her punishment didn’t ensconce the scarlet letter, however, embraced the bright red letter. In my life, there is one letter, that has perpetuated me from a young child. “K”, stands for the cliche archetype, of a prolix version of my life attached to every piece of clothing I own. Being kind is a blessing, however having kindness is a curse. Overall, I face society, with the letter hanging off my clothes, but with much mettle, towards obstacles. Since a small child, my parents poured their values onto me. For example, always help others, don’t hold grudges, and be respectful to anyone. Of course, I’m human and steered once away from my core values.People have always said how warm-hearted I am, but no one...

...Creating Texts: Letter Writing By Lachlan Reid – 989856 August 26, 1991 (letter ONE) Dear Charlie, I wish I could send you this letter, but I understand why you wish that I don’t know you. I want you to know that I will try to figure out who you are, I’ve always liked to know who I am writing to and I’m sorry for that. I promise that if I find you, I will not approach you, I will simply leave the replies to your letters for you, I may see you but you won’t see me. Promise me not to be mad, please? I will always reply to your letters, I believe that’s what you should do with letters, don’t you? As you tell me about your life, I will tell you about mine. I can already tell that we may be more similar than you may think and have experienced events in our short lives that may also be similar. I’m sorry to hear about your friend Michael, I can only imagine how his suicide has affected you. I have never experienced the loss of someone to suicide, although I have lost family members who were very close to me. I’ve seen school counsellors who tell me that “time heels grief and the pain”, but some days I wonder if the grief and pain will ever go away. I hope you never think of killing or hurting yourself Charlie, you appear to be an intellectual person, who many people would miss if you were gone. I think it’s good to cry, not all the time and for no reason, but sometimes things hurt so badly that we can’t help but cry. I know after I’ve had a cry, I often feel...

...That is when she met Reverend Charles Wadsworth. From her letters, it is clear she respected him alot even though they had a lot of different beliefs. They exchanged letters for many years, including responses to Emily’s request for guidance. Because of her discomfort and shyness in social situations, Emily gradually reduced her contacts, going out less and less into society. By her late twenties, this has led to an almost complete seclusion; spending most of her time in the house, rarely meeting others from outside a close family circle. Her sister explains this wasn’t a sudden decision, but a gradual process that happened over a period of time. However, despite the seclusion, Emily still wrote with a variety of people. It is also clear from her poetry that her decision to live life as a recluse did not close her mind, but in many ways allowed the flow...
