...Legislative Letter University of Phoenix June 2nd, 2014 DC: 202-225-6365; Local: 804-318-1363 Re: Senate Bill #3102 Dear Senator, I am writing you a parent of three Chesterfield County’s School District students and a Registered Nurse currently pursing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing through the University of Phoenix. Recently, we had a community assessments assignment to identify aspects within our community that could adversely affect the health of the community. I commend your efforts to explore ways additional ways the County has attempted to implement various food programs such as a healthy breakfast for school children in the morning before the start of school. Chesterfield County Health Department through health screenings in public schools reported in 2013, that more than three out of 10 children are either overweight or at risk of being overweight (Chesterfield.gov). Many Americans do not follow a healthy diet, get an adequate amount of exercise, or follow any guidelines for a healthy lifestyle. As you are aware, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Action Program), restricts categorical eligibility to only those households receiving cash assistance through other low income assistance programs, allows the use of SNAP benefits for shares of community supported agriculture, and includes physical activity as an allowable activity under the nutrition education program (Whitehouse.gov). During my community assessment, a factor that was affecting our community was...

She used her federal contacts to bring in projects such as bridges and buildings. Having to rely on the same staff as her husband had, she tried to balance a family life with her new lead role in her community and quite possibly eclipsed her husband’s career. ² Effiegene Wingo was born April 13, 1883 in Lockesburg, Arkansas to George Todd Locke and Callie Blanche Dooley Locke, the first of seven children. ...Who is the next NUGS president? My take… I wrote this piece to give my perspective about the ongoing controversy surrounding who the next NUGS president is. I have read the piece written by one Manasseh Azure Awuni titled “WHO IS THE NEXT NUGS PRESIDENT?” published on 25th August 2009 on www.myjoyonline.com. Mr. Awuni was indeed the chairman of a vetting committee and I find his piece interesting. In actual fact, there were two vetting committees involved in the 43RD Annual Delegates Congress of the National Union of Ghana Students. The first one was constituted by NEC and the second was constituted by Congress which was chaired by the author of the aforementioned article. Article 60 clause (a) of NUGS constitution states that Without prejudice to any provision of this constitution, any student aspiring to any position shall be subjected to a vetting by a 7 member committee formed by NEC with approval of CC before congress (Note 1: National Executive Committee or NEC is composed of National President, National General Secretary, National Treasurer, Press and Information Secretary, Coordinating Secretary and President/Representative of component blocs in NUGS) & (Note 2: Central Committee or CC comprises of National Officers and Bloc Representatives, NUGS Representatives on International Bodies, SRC Presidents, SRC Secretaries, Local NUGS Presidents, Local NUGS Secretaries, Women’s Commissioners). The first vetting committee was duly formed by NEC but without the approval of...

...regulations. The letter to the Danbury Baptist was written to inform the people that there would be a separation between “church and state” keeping the government out of religion. These three articles seem as though they have nothing in common…. The Declaration of Independence was written first, on July 4, 1776. The U.S. Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. In both of these documents citizens were obligated to support the government as long at it was not restraining them from their freedom, and correct or remove it when it was. The Declaration was written to notify the monarchy that the United States was no longer a British colony. The Declaration of Independence listed reasons why the United States decided to cut ties to the British and was now its own country with its own government. The Constitution outlines the most important government laws and citizen rights. Some of the laws of the Constitution seem to be based off of the listed reasons in the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution was approved through a vote from the states, and the United States Federal Government was created. This is the same Government that exist today. If it wasn’t for the Declaration of Independence cutting ties with the British we might not have the same laws that the Constitution established for us today. The Declaration of Independence declared that the United States is a free and independent nation, while the Constitution declares that there will be a congress, president...

...Nearly 150 years before the House of Representatives passed the 19th Amendment, Abigail Adams wrote a letter, dated March 31, 1776, to her husband, John Adams. She urged him and other members of the Continental Congress not to forget about the nation’s women when fighting for America’s independence. This letter was a very important first step in the fight for equal rights for women. Abigail was admired and respected in her time and her letters written to John Adams continue to show people of the world a perspective on life and politics during the revolutionary era. Times for women before the American Revolution were difficult and unjust. They were routinely excluded and kept silent, just as they had always been in times even before 1776. “......

Joy introduces the topic and shows the importance in this section. The speaker gives a simple but effective preview of the main points to be covered in the speech using Monroe’s Motivated Sequence. In this section, Joy cites recent and credible evidence to support her claims. 440 Chapter 16 Joy Zoodsma Western Michigan University Bohn Fawkes was a B-17 pilot during World War II who flew a number of missions over Germany. On one such occasion, his fuel tank was hit by an enemy missile, and he was forced to land the plane. Miraculously, he survived, upon which he discovered the missile had not detonated. If it had, his plane and he would have exploded immediately. Upon returning to the United States, Fawkes asked to keep the unexploded missile as a souvenir, a sign of goodwill toward him. However, upon further investigation it was found that not one but eleven missiles had hit his fuel tank. They were immediately sent off to intelligence for further investigation where it was revealed that all eleven missiles were empty, save one. The one missile contained a note, written in the Czech language, that said, “This is all we can do, for now.” A courageous Czechoslovakian factory worker had disarmed the missiles and written the note. He realized he couldn’t end the war, but he could save...

...Andrew Jackson sent a letter to the congress about rotating goverment jobs on December 8, 1896. Andrew Jackson finds out that the National bank has been using the bank's money to use for gambling on February 1834. On December 7, 1829, Jackson wrote a letter to the congress about the indian removal act. On December 8, 1896, Andrew jackson’s letter to the congress on the rotating goverment jobs, says that highly perspicacious men are likely to qualify the goverment jobs. The limit of governing is up to 4 years. He says that jobs like this are made for the welfare of the people. He says that nobody has more rights than others to govern. I believe he only selected his friends on these jobs to agree with him on anything. For example if he didn't like a new law that was coming up, he could easily veto it. If the people that did like the law and voted against Jackson will be out numbered because jackson friends will obviously take his side. The people who went against jackson will most...

These programs include the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, Runaway and Homeless Youth Act, joint U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH), to name only a few. (Alliance to End Homelessness, 2011). The National Alliance to End Homelessness encourages a policy of advocacy in Congress and local government. They believe that members of Congress will be more likely to promote change if they are given to opportunity to understand how many people in their district are suffering and what can be done to stop it. The Alliance explains how advocacy can make a difference, just by calling and writing to policy makers or building relationships with them by meeting with them or inviting them to attend a program explaining the problems homeless people face every day. The Alliance works with Congress directly through meetings and organized campaigns with advocates throughout the country. They encourage ordinary people to advocate at home, by writing or faxing letters to their Senators and Representatives asking them to increase funding for programs that provide assistance and aid to the homeless, or by working with the media to help raise awareness of just how serious the issue of...

...The American Revolution started in 1775 after the First Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1774. The First Continental Congress was a meeting of the people of the 13 colonies that wanted independence from King George III. Two of the main people in the First Continental Congress were George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Before the First Continental Congress, the Boston Tea Party happened in 1773. The Boston Tea Party was an act of anger because of the unreasonably high taxes on the tea that king George shipped over to the 13 colonies. In result, the colonists shipped back to Britain and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. The colonists received consequences from the King which were called The Intolerable Act. This Act included not having a jury in court. This violated the 5th amendment nowadays. During the First Continental Congress, the people sent a letter to King George III of Britain, asking if they could become their own nation because the King wasn’t protecting their natural rights. The colonists made a plan if the King said no, to meet again in 1775. The King said no and sent over troops because of the Intolerable Act/the letter and the troops were allowed to live in your home and you had to provide them with food and a bedroom. This made the colonists angry...
