...education” (Flook, 2003, p. 161). Regulation agencies play many roles in nursing educational settings. Accrediting agencies help students ensure that they are choosing a school program that practices competent, professional nursing practices. Choosing a nursing program that is accredited ensures that the curricula and education received conforms to certain requirements and provides comfort to students, knowing that their investments in their education is not wasted (University of San Francisco, 2011). Regulatory Agencies A regulatory agency creates and “enforces rules or regulations that carry the full force of the law”. “The ultimate goal of nursing regulation is to protect the public from harm” (Flook, 2003, p. 163). The Boards of Nursing (BON) were established over 100 years ago to protect the health of the public by supervising and ensuring safe nursing practice. Boards of Nursing were established to enforce regulations for the unsafe, unethical, and incompetent nursing practices. The BON is a very influential entity present in all states nationwide. The BON regulates the licensure of nurses, education requirements, and complaints of nurses and their practices. Every state enforces individual laws regarding the practice of nursing, which can vary from state to state. The laws of each state should be thoroughly reviewed to avoid any future problems that may arise and must be abided by all nursing...

...setting. A Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is a four year academic degree. The debate over minimum education requirements for nurses has been going on for decades and there still seems to be no general consensus. The subject of entry level education requirements is one that is very divisive to many nurses. Internet searches bring up thousands of blogs, message board postings, position statements and statistics related to this issue. In this paper the focus will be on ADN and BSN nurses. Associate degree programs are designed to train students to provide entry level care in a hospital setting. The ADN is an attractive option for many due to shortened program time and the reduced tuition rate. Baccalaureate nursing programs have additional classes in humanities, the sciences and expanded nursing coursework. The additional classes in community health nursing, nursing management and research are designed to provide the BSN prepared nurse for a broader scope of practice. This enables the BSN prepared nurse to move away from direct bedside care in a hospital setting. The BSN degree also serves as a bridge to those who want to continue their education at the graduate level. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has posted a detailed position statement (2000) and fact sheet (2010) on their websites endorsing the position that the minimum entry level requirement for nurses be a BSN degree. In Benner et al. (2009) the recommendation is “that the baccalaureate degree in nursing...

...A Probabilistic Estimation of Passing the Licensure Examination for Accountant Adrian Tamayo, PhD Research and Publication Center University of Mindanao Esterlina Gevera Dean, College of Accounting Education University of Mindanao Lord Eddie Aguilar Faculty, College of Accounting Education University of Mindanao Abstract The paper employed a simulation model to determine probability of passing the CPA licensure exam. The predictor variables of the study were GPA, pre-review grade, and the subject clusters of the exam. The study covered periods 2007-2011. It was noted that the performance of the Accounting Education for the period covered was found to be impressive. Pre-review and the GPA have high statistical influence in passing the board exam. The threshold GPA is 2.2 while 2.4 for the prereview. Of the subject clusters in the board exam, accounting problems have the highest impact in the actual board score followed by theory of accounts, management services, practical accounting problems 2, practical accounting problems 1 and the least yet still bear impact is the business law and taxation. The collegiate validation exam used as indicator of readiness showed statistical association with the actual exam. A simulated model revealed that the scores of management and services, auditing problems, audit theory, business law and taxation and accounting problems 1 have strong board outcome effects. The theory of accounts and accounting problems 2 showed no statistical significance...

...correlational research design was used for this study to examine the relationship of students’ study habits and attitudes to their performance in the licensure examinations. The respondents were graduates in school year 2009-2010 from the different programs of the University which require licensure examination. A total of 239 students comprised of 127 males and 112 females participated in the study. Table 1 shows the distribution of the respondents. Table 1: Distribution of the respondents The study habits and attitudes of the respondents were assessed by administering the “Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes” (SSHA) developed by Brown and Holtzman (1969) during their final year in the University. The SSHA consists of 100 items divided equally into four (4) subscales named as ‘work methods (WM)’, ‘delay avoidance (DA)’, ‘teacher approval (TA)’ and ‘educational acceptance (EA)’. The subscales are used to formulate two subtotals; summation of scores obtained from WM and DA forms a score for ‘Study Habits (SH)’ and the total score obtained from the summation of TA and EA yield a ‘study attitudes (SA)’ score. The Study Habits measure student's time management ability and work methods whereas Study Attitudes measure student’s opinions about teacher’s classroom management and behavior and his/her acceptance of education. The performance rating of the graduates was generated from the data released by the PRC. It is the overall rating obtained by the graduates in the licensure examinations...

...towards obtaining licensure in Canada. The Canadian Psychological Association (2016) affirms that having a Ph.D. offers an individual extensive training and preparation for professional work and increases employment opportunities. Some provinces and institutions, such as Nova Scotia, allow individuals to practice as psychologists and college professors with a master’s degree. However, in other provinces in Canada it is required to obtain a Ph.D. to be a registered psychologist that can provide psychological services to society. The requirements to obtain licensure vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, therefore it is important that students learn about the requirements needed in the jurisdiction in...

...Bachelor's versus Associate' Grand Canyon University Abstract Nursing is a constantly changing profession and far more complex than it has been in the past. The science of nursing is forever changing and requiring a need for more highly educated professional nurses. Those in nursing education and the nursing profession face many challenges in regards to changes in medicine, population, disease, lifestyles and technology. There are different levels of nursing education, and each level has their own standards to uphold. Students approach the learning institution with the assumption they will be taught the knowledge and skills to become competent nurses. Employers of nursing graduates assume the nursing degree and the state licensure certify competent performance. The most common degrees in nursing are associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) or baccalaureate degrees in nursing (BSN). Nursing Degree Competencies: Bachelor's versus Associate's The need for different education and practice is derived from the increasing difficulty of health care delivery and scope of practice for registered nurses. Many schools offer different nursing programs to attend, and some choose to attend a two year program called an associate’s degree in nursing or ADN. You will find that most ADN programs are in a concentrated two year community college setting. Associate degree nursing continues to make a positive impact on the registered nurse population, providing almost 60% of entry...

...crimes? Which many has come to conclusions but the end results is many have been incarcerated when they needed medical attention. I have obtain many reasons as to why individuals commit crime but I want to get to point of knowing what influenences are there are mental health issues one of the reasons why our prison system is being overflowed and are these individuals being overlooked. These factors motivates me as an individual which I believe will prepare me to become a competent counselor. I feel as though we are not in the individuals life to judge but to motivate, to achieve a common goal of seeking and resolving a issues/problem that he/she is conflicted with. I intend continue to grow within the counseling field by continuing to research issues that effect society today, such as mental health and seeking solutions for these individuals to be able to live normal lives without the ridicule or label. Being able to write about mental issues and ways to resolve it is a lifelong dream but I feel as though with any profession comes experience and the more experience one has the more knowledgeable one becomes and it is at this point that I feel as though I would be able to achieve this goal and I also feel as though experience and knowledge can’t be measured only achieved. There are also many ways we as counselors can assist others who may be seeking or have obtain the same opportunities. By participating in leadership workshops, it will help develop a sense of accomplishment...

...Running head: COMPETENCY DIFFERENTIAL BETWEEN ADN AND BSN Competency Differential Between ADN and BSN Grand Canyon University NRS-430V Competency Differential Between ADN and BSN The role of a nurse has been recognized for centuries. The educational requirements of a nurse have been debated for about as long. Throughout the centuries, the role of the nurse has changed and at the same time, so have the education requirements for entry into the profession. Nurses have been educated in different scholastic settings throughout the ages and although nurses function in similar roles within the workplace, there are differences in competency based on educational background. This paper will focus on the competency differences in students trained at the associate level versus those trained at the baccalaureate level. Prior to 1909, prospective nurses were taught in hospital-based schools. These nurses earned their Diploma in Nursing after spending 2-3 years of intense training, living and working in a hospital. In 1909, the first permanent undergraduate university nursing program was established at the University of Minnesota. The time and money that was required for university programs made it difficult for many and enrollment was extremely low compared to the hospital-based diploma programs (Creasia & Friberg, 2011). In 1924, working with an endowment established by the Rockefeller Foundation, Annie Goodrich started a baccalaureate program, Bachelors of Science...

...associate degree and the diploma nurse to obtain a baccalaureate in nursing. The article presents studies that support this view and the advantages of obtaining a BSN degree in nursing. SUMMARY In the profession of nursing there are currently three pathways in which a nurse can obtain licensure: the diploma, the associate degree, and the baccalaureate degree (Spencer, 2008). The article further explains professional nursing organizations views, and discusses key points, in which a baccalaureate of science in nursing (BSN) degree should be the minimum educational requirement for professional nursing practice. These organizations also support flexible admission criteria for the diploma nurse and the associate degree nurses hoping to encourage these nurses to complete a BSN degree in nursing (Spencer, 2008). The advantage of the nurse to obtain a baccalaureate education provides a broader knowledge base. The BSN program consists of an additional year of training which includes: research, theory, community health, and leadership content. The program includes a foundation in nursing that provides a wider range of general education courses and exposes the nurse to formal research classes. This type of classes can assist with evidence-based practice and lead...

...doctors, nurses ensure that patients obtain the highest quality of care and execute many of the routine functions of patient treatment. Associate degree nursing (ADN) education developed from Mildred Montag's research and differentiated practice vision in 1952. From the first set of graduates, Montag's differentiated practice vision did not take hold. Lack of differentiation of nurses' role and functions in practice based on education preparation continues today (Mathias, 2009). An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) emphases on the technical standpoints of nursing, rather than the theoretical and academic aspects of nursing usually covered in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. ADN students will have to accomplish some fundamental prerequisites before taking nursing curriculum, such as courses in writing, social science, history, etc. Nursing-specific module will likely enfold such topics as anatomy and physiology, chemistry, biology, family health, pediatric and geriatric medicine, pharmacology, psychology and mental health. State Boards of Nursing in each state regulate which programs are customary for that state. Upon achievement of a state certified curriculum of study, the nursing candidate will need to pass the NCLEX, or the National Council Licensure Examination. Fortuitously, most of the two-year courses for an ADN are geared en route for helping graduates to pass the NCLEX. With the existing high exigency for nurses, employment for someone with an associate...

...Governor’s University Lindsey Isdahl Mission Statement Here at the facility we promote quality safe care of all our patients through our well trained staff to treat each individual physically, mentally, and spiritually. Part A A board of nursing (BON) is the enforcement of licensure, education standards, and laws and regulations to ensure patient care and safety and usually occur at the state level. Professional nursing associations (PNA) can be at a state or national level and is an organization to bring nurses together to promote quality care and measures through observation, experience, education and research. Both the BON and PNA affect my career as a nurse. Every two years I am required to pay the BON for my re-licensure through the state I am certified to work in. At this time I am also subject to an audit that shows I have been following and meeting the basic requirements for continued licensure. This is done through working a minimal set of hours each year in the field and obtaining continuing education credits. One PNA I am a part of is the Minnesota Nurses Association. MNA is a union that is a support tool for its members, creates equal rights for employees, and provides research for improved quality of care and work environment. This organization has provided me with a friendly, work safe environment with good benefits so that I am able to provide the best quality of care to my patients on a daily basis.
