The Book Thief is about a curious girl named Liesel living in Germany during the Holocaust, as seen through the viewpoint of Death. Early on in the book, Liesel can hardly read, but is determined to learn after finding a book at her brother’s grave. Her adoptive father reads with her each day to try and help her learn. Liesel’s life becomes complicated when her family decides to take in a Jewish boy named Max and the Nazi party begins bombing her city. While trying to keep up a front that her life is normal, Liesel helps her mother with her deliveries and in the midst, meets an unlikely friend to help her get the books she so desperately craves.
