...A Teacher's Life Lessons Using A Jar And Some Golf Balls This is a very important life lesson that a philosophy teacher taught his students. The teacher cleared off his desk and placed on top of it a few items. One of the items was an empty mason jar. He proceeded to fill up the jar with golf balls until he could fit no more. He looked at the classroom and asked his students if they agree that the jar is full. Every student agreed that the jar was indeed full. The teacher then picked up a box of small pebbles and poured them into the jar with the golf balls. The pebbles filled all of the openings in between the golf balls. He asked the students if the jar was full. Once again, they agreed. Now the teacher picked up a bag of sand and poured it into the mason jar. The sand filled in all of the empty space left between the golf balls and pebbles. He asked the class again if the jar was full. The students agreed it was technically full. Finally, the teacher pulled out two beers from under his desk and poured both of them into the jar filling the empty space between the sand. Now the students began to laugh wondering how far this was going. The teacher waited until the laughter stopped. "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life," he started. "The golf balls represent the important things. Your family, children, health, friends, and passions. If everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles represent the other...

...September 9, 2014 Life Lessons Life is full of obstacles that you have to figure out how to maneuver around. It is full of challenges that you have to overcome. When you lose a loved one, you feel like it’s the end for you as well. Hopefully you can overcome the sadness and learn how to deal with not only the pain but also putting your life in order as well. I grew up with an older sister and a younger brother. Our parents were constantly gone. Busy working or out with friends. That left my siblings and I alone a lot. We taught ourselves to take care of each other. Mentally, physically and emotionally we were all each other had. That made the relationship we had with each other stronger than it could ever be. A promise was made between the three of us that we would always be there for one another. We would always help each other no matter what the circumstances were, and we would always protect each other. On January 7, 2009 my world changed forever. My brother was in a severe single vehicle accident that killed him. Alcohol and speed were both factors in the accident. Neither my brother nor his passenger was wearing their seat belts. Both were ejected from the vehicle. My brother lived long enough for me and my sister to get to the hospital and say our final goodbyes. His passenger lived, but sustained a broken neck that has healed. My brother left behind a one year old daughter and a daughter on the way. He had life insurance but did not have a...

...There are two main life lessons that I have learned after reading this novel, and they are to never give up and to always have courage under any circumstances. I realized that I should never give up when something tough and challenging comes my way, because I could possibly be touching someone else’s life in the process, or they touch mine. Like Ron, he wanted to give up on volunteering at the mission because he didn’t like it and felt uncomfortable, but instead, he kept on volunteering and because he never gave up he met Denver who changed his life forever and vice versa. Another life lesson I have learned from this novel, is to always have courage during difficult times and situations. Like Denver, he had the courage to leave his family behind in Louisiana by getting on a train and going to Texas to make a better life for him and his family because he wasn’t going to let his race define his future, and that shows a tremendous amount of courage....

...I believe in life lessons. Life lessons are something i believe, because no matter what you do you learn something. Also they help us understand what this world is all about.life lessons will help you through out your whole life time. Life’s too short don’t worry about what happened in your past. You can’t change what has already been done. Taking risk is easier than what most people may put it out as. When taking risk you will learn what you like and what you don’t like don’t waist your time being scared. Try to just live before it’s too late. Living life before it’s too late means to never be scared of what people may think about you. Living by yolo is plan out there. You only live once so do you and say whatever to the world. We are who...

...Life lessons are the things you leafrn at a very young age. As a child, I have learned that things change and your environment change quickly. And some things I learned I go by, and some I use once and then get rid of those life lessons. But there are ones that I keep for a short time, and keep for a long time, begcause you never know when they will come in handy. While working in Health Care, I have find that a rational decision made when our loves ones are sick. The big question is, our evolving environment of today, Will your situation change? And How will you react to your changing situation depends on the outcome your reaction to changing environment. I have experienced an environmental change in a large organization. The change in this organization was a huge difference; we had to learn new company concepts whven the company merged with a larger company. We had to also learn a new system and the organizational chart changed in each department. Occasionally change is deliberate, a product of mindful reasogning and actions. This type of change is called planned change. In distinction, change sometimdes unfolds in an apparently spontaneous and unplanned way. This type of change is known as emergent change. External factors (such as the economy, competitors’ behavior, and political climate) or internal features (such as the relative power of different interest groups, distribution of knowledge, and uncertainty) influence the change in directions outside the control of managers...

...I have learned a lot of life lessons from most of the extra-curricular activities that I have been involved in from an early age. When I moved to Terrell TX when I was younger I did not know anyone except for my family in the town so basically I was very antisocial and I did not talk to anyone in my school. Once I got older I began to join different organizations and activities such as basketball, boy scouts, student council and more programs that got me more involved with other children of my age and how to interact with them. When I began playing basketball it was the first time that I had ever played the sport, and even though I was not that good I still loved it because I learned to trust my teammates, learned to work with others, and...

...Appreciation and Gratitude – Life Lesson Finally, after so many years I am on my way home, “second” home after my parents’. I feel very excited, as it is not just a house that I used to rent, but a “magic” place, where being away from my parents I could experience home comfort. I haven’t been there for about five years since I graduated from University, and I miss it a lot. This time is going to be a short stay, for only a few days, but I am glad I can spend it there. That place made my school time enjoyable, and the landlady Maria treated me like her own granddaughter. She was a lovely and a very kind-hearted person and could cheer me up when I needed it most. All my friends and I loved her because of her young and vibrant mind with a trusting spirit. Despite of her age, she remained a very beautiful creature; her blue eyes and warm smile could make anyone feel welcome. With the snow-white hair she was almost like an angel. Her house itself was very charming although not fashionable; it was more like country style. Wooden furniture made from logs and twigs, roughly cut and sawn with no ornate, looked very simple and straight. I loved the kitchen with its old open-shelved dresser, wooden draining racks for plates above the sink, and the big wooden table decorated with dried flowers. The handmade wool rugs on the floor and the linen curtain on the windows reflected in warmth and cosiness. She surrounded herself with the things she loved. Each item in the house had a story and...

...Sometimes we all make mistakes. The most popular excuse that comes to mind is “that no one is perfect”. The most important thing is to take the time to think and make the right decisions. This is how we should handle each situation no matter how minor and learn from our mistakes. My lesson begins on a Friday night after a long week of work. I’m looking forward to celebrating my buddy’s birthday tonight. As I was getting ready to go out after work I started making the plan to pick up our friend Pete. For some reason choosing to take out my 98 Camaro Z28 instead of my more conservative Jetta seemed like a good idea. Why did I choose the Camaro? Why that was a bad idea? These are the questions I should have asked myself. It was a short ride to Pete’s place. When I arrived there I hung out a bit, “pre-gaming” with Pete and heading out to the party. Mistake one choosing to take a race car to a party that I planned on drinking at with a passenger and not having a plan if I couldn’t drive home. Our good friend Eric was having a Luau at his girlfriend’s house for his 23rd birthday party. A lot of our mutual friends from school and work were all there. At the party they had live music on a make shift stage which I thought was pretty cool. There were many festivities to partake in including an open bar and playing a few drinking games. After a few hours the party was winding down so it was time to leave. Pete and I decided to invite a few people back to my place and make a grand exit...

...Introduction Cross Curricular teaching involves a conscious effort to encourage students to apply skills or knowledge acquired through learning at school to more than one subject on their curriculum. A central topic or theme can interlink subjects with each other, and students as a result should be able to learn an aspect of a central topic and apply information learned in one subject to others(Householder & Boulin 1992). As mentioned in Component 1 there are huge advantages to Cross Curricular teaching and learning. However, many students do not or cannot apply the knowledge that they have acquired in one subject to others (www.fromtinyacorns.wordpress.com/2009/10/28/about-transdisciplinary-thematic-learning) Learning beyond subject boundaries provides a student with the opportunity to experience not only learning that is relevant to one subject’s requirements, but also learning information that they will apply to other subjects. This type of learning some students may find to be challenging as they will be studying one topic from many different perspectives. However, with a deeper understanding of a topic, others will find it more interesting and may be encouraged to study the topic even further. Rensick (1989) confirms this stating that in contrast to learning topics in isolation students become more actively engaged in their studies when they participate in cross curricular learning. Cross curricular learning that is based on linking learning experiences and...

...Lessons from Geese 'Individual empowerment results from quality honking' Lessons from Geese provides a perfect example of the importance of team work and how it can have a profound and powerful effect on any form of personal or business endeavor. When we use these five principles in our personal and business life it will help us to foster and encourage a level of passion and energy in ourselves, as well as those who are our friends, associates or team members. It is essential to remember that teamwork happens inside and outside of business life when it is continually nurtured and encouraged. Lesson 1 - The Importance of Achieving Goals as each goose flaps its wings it creates an UPLIFT for the birds that follow. By flying in a 'V' formation the whole flock adds 71 percent extra to the flying range. Outcome When we have a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each other to achieve our goals. Lesson 2 - The Importance of Team Work When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front. Outcome if we had as much sense as geese we would stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others. Lesson 3 - The Importance of Sharing when a goose tires of flying up front it drops back into formation and another goose flies to the point position. Outcome It pays to...

...There are many elements to take under consideration while creating a lesson plan, however these elements are important for different reasons and when combining the elements in the right order you can produce what every teacher hopes for: measurable student learning. The elements I’ll be discussing are Common Core Curriculum Standards, Performance and Learning Outcomes, Anticipatory Set, Lesson Opening, Guiding Questions, Instructional Step by Step Procedures, Guided Practice, Lesson Closing, Independent Practice, Materials, Assessment, Lesson Evaluation, and Management. The first element that should appear in a lesson plan is the Common Core Curriculum Standards. This should be first within ones lesson plan because it withholds the standards that clearly communicate was is expected of the student at each grade level within the different subject matters. This element is important because it realizes that both content and skills are important. CCSS are also important because it sets a guideline for what students should be learning and include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high order skills that are aligned with future college and work expectations. The second element that should appear in a lesson plan is that of Performance and Learning Outcomes, or in different terms the objectives and goals. This should appear second because it outlines the topics and material that the students will be learning with a certain amount of time; also showing them what...
