“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity”, unquote- Albert Einstein.
A very good morning to the chairperson, timekeeper, honorable judges, the audience and my dear opponents. The motion for today’s debate is, life without technology would be more fulfilling.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me first define life & technology. Life is the existence of an individual human being or animal. Technology is the scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.
I would like to draw your attention to a particular aspect of fulfillment, satisfaction and happiness. Satisfaction is fulfillment of one’s wishes, expectations, or needs or the pleasure derived from this.
Happiness is feeling or showing pleasure.
Fulfilling, ladies and gentlemen, fulfilling. What is fulfillment? Fulfillment is the satisfaction or happiness as a result of fully developing one’s abilities or characters.
I, the first speaker, will be speaking about men’s dependence on technology and human interaction, our second speaker will be speaking on Maslow Hierarchy of needs and how technology distracts us from achieving more fulfillment and our third speaker will rebut the opposition’s case and will be furthering our case if necessary.
Our baseline for today is, ‘A beautiful painting, is not a product of a good brush but rather a good painter”
How long has it been since you took a long stroll along the beach? How long has it been since you stood and stared leisurely at the sky? Really felt the breeze in your face and stopped to smell the roses?
I believe while technology can be useful and convenient, it does not fulfill us and places many threats to our society. Let me show you how this is not fulfilling. You may say, “Oh I need that new iPad”, “I need that new iPhone or I would not be fulfilled”, “I need that gorgeous slick camera”, you see ladies

...as Textbooks, pens/pencils, computers/technology etc, also they may not be able to afford uniform meaning that they will have to use, used, worn and shabby uniform from the lost and found which could lead to bullying. Since poverty and deprivation apply only to children from working class backgrounds in many cases, these are potential causes of differential educational achievement, lack of money for transport, school trips, technology, these make a difference between a good, healthy education and a bad, unhealthy one as these things are vital, without such things they’re education is affected and they would be most likely unrecognizably behind which could affect students grades which would most likely lead to the cycle of deprivation. In all social groups class plays a large role in attainment of children in education, for example a particular book or a particular type of researched homework may be asked from a teacher with a class of both middle and working class students, it is more probable for the middle class students to have completed it but on the other hand the working class student may not be able to afford the book or even have access to a computer to do any research needed and that therefore may lead to the teacher telling the student off and labelling, which subsequently could then lead to bad behaviour as defence and self fulfilling prophecy, middle class students may also look down upon the working class student as they would assume that she/he is ‘poor’ or that...

Losing Touch

...good comes at the expense of “human touch”. While there are plenty of benefits to technology, there are consequences on the human psyche due to this loss of face-to-face interaction. One benefit that the Internet offers is easily accessible, well-consolidated information for a plethora of potential research questions. Prior to the “technology boom”, research was primarily done through the reference of written text. This, more often than not, involved going to a library, which would in turn result in some extent of human interaction. Technology also allows for faster communication. In the past, if you wanted to get ahold of your friend, you would do so by means of face-to-face conversation or via a letter. Today, all you have to do is hit a few buttons for nearly instantaneous communication. Another benefit offered by the Internet is lower cost of products. Many companies are realizing the benefits that having a website has on product costs. These websites allow for companies to sell their products to consumers, while avoiding the setback of building and maintaining another store. In turn, this lowers the overhead costs associated with these products and allows these companies to price their products even more competitively than before. These few benefits, however, come at a significant effect to the human psyche. All of the convenience offered by technology and the Internet is not without cost. As the saying goes, “the easiest way is not always the best way”. All of...

Technology

...Ms. Marsha Decker English 1301 23 September 2015 Faster Reflexes and More Vacuous Our nation changes and improves every year, and one of the many improvements that continues to evolve is computer technology. It becomes more prominent and is changing the generations of teenagers and adults as it continues to become more popular. Many can argue that computer technology is good or bad for our minds. Nicholas Carr has shared his view that technology is making our minds vapid. He states at the end of his article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, “as we come to rely on computers to mediate our understanding of the world, it is our own intelligence that flattens into artificial intelligence” (345). However along with all the advancements that can help our nation there are also a few technologies such as social media and gaming that does not exactly help improve our generation. Technology may be improving to be fulfilling the wants of people, however our nation needs a generation that does not spend their entire life on the internet. Therefore, social media or gaming is a drawback to computer technology because it begins to prevent people from using their full ability of brain power which will soon prevent from furthering technology in our world to better the nation. The internet and social media have benefited people by improving the knowledge that people have. Many great advances can come out of technology, because just thirty years ago our nation did not even know about the internet...

...Technology’s Redefinition of the Human In response to Ray Kurzweil predictions of a world “in which humans gained near immortality by becoming one with robotic technology,” Bill Joy expresses great alarm and distress at the notion that the contemporary definition of the “human” may transform. Even though this definition has transformed with various evolutions that have shaped or, perhaps more accurately, reshaped human biology, psychology, sociology—and yes, even technology—Joy’s pessimism towards this version of a future appears to stem from its underlying principle—that technology will eventually surpass human faculties and capabilities and ultimately, not transform us into a new species of sentient beings, as per Kurzweil’s predictions, but replace us as the supreme beings of this planet. The question then is: does technology have the ability to replace us? Any investigation regarding technology in contemporary society will reveal an impressive catalog of the progress technology has made. And while the same investigation will yield an equally long list of improvements and advancements that yet to be made, Joy’s fears resonate with the fact that any such investigation will also reveal how increasingly reliant we are on technology and suggest that one day, when technology does develop sentience and it exists independent of humans may very well cease to exist. However, as technological experience and human-based experience become one and the same, perhaps it is not Joy’s extinction...

What Are the Merits and Problems of the Integrated Curriculum?

...experienced the feeling that “there just isn’t enough time to get it all in” or “the school day just isn’t long enough for all that they are supposed to do; it seems that every year there are more things added to the curriculum”. This feeling of frustration is one of the motivations behind the development of an integrated curriculum. Teachers see this as part of the solution to the requirements that pull teachers in different ways. A basic definition is offered by Humphreys (Humphreys, Post & Ellis, 1981 cited in Lake, 1994) when he states, “An integrated study is one in which children broadly explore knowledge in various subjects related to certain aspects of their environment” (p.11). He sees links among the Humanities, Communication Arts, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Social Studies, Music, and Art. Skills and Knowledge are developed and applied in more that one area of study. In keeping with this thematic definition, shoemaker defines an integrated curriculum as Education that is organized in such a way that it cuts across subject matter lines, bringing together various aspects of the curriculum into meaningful association to focus upon broad areas of study. It views learning and teaching in a holistic way and reflects the real world, which is interactive (1989: 5). This essay would be looking at the merits of curriculum integration. It will further discuss the problems...

The ‘plan-buy-make–move–sell’ value chain is no more linear. While the ’sell’ component of the value chain can now be executed by any node within the supply chain, there are several supply chain elements such as forecasting, order management, warehousing, and last mile fulfillment that are moving to the forefront. This requires building new capabilities. Focusing on building new capabilities will also require renewing one of the key operations and technology backbones of the supply...

This sometimes extends as far back as...
