...admonish and encourage about the present day. They remind the established leaders of the reason they were the leaders of their people. Remind the Establishment why they are the establishment. Eight century Prophets are most notable, and the start of the Classical Prophets. Their writings are collections in a separate book of the scriptures. Amos Amos is the first prophet I want to discuss. The theme that runs through all of the material is one of protest against the social injustices that prevailed in northern Israel during the reign of Jeroboam II. Along with this protest is the warning that Yahweh will surely punish the nation for violating the demands of justice. He declares, "Fallen is Virgin Israel, never to rise again." He is caustic and abrasive in his delivery. He is from the southern kingdom but preached to the northern kingdom. He up holds the Mosaic Covenant. Amos was a herdsman who lived in the region of Tekoa, not many miles from the city of Jerusalem. As Amos pondered the situation that prevailed in northern Israel, he began to have dreams and visions, three of which he recorded. For example, Amos sees a man with a plumb line measuring a wall that is about to fall. The man is told that the bulging wall is none other than the house of Israel: Just as a wall of this kind will soon collapse, so the nation that it represents will surely go into captivity....

The “Personal Prophetic” Mandate “The Lord does not want you to be just a prophetic man going here and there, sharing a prophetic word. He wants you to lay a prophetic foundation. He wants you to lay out a whole program whereby you go into a church and lay a prophetic foundation within the very framework and infrastructure of my people.” (personal prophecy spoken over Dennis Cramer, Oct. 1996) The “Amos” Mandate Amos said, “I do not come from a family of prophets neither am I a professionally trained prophet with a scholarly background... I have no formal prophetic training or education of any kind. Still, the Lord has commanded me to prophesy!” (Amos 7:14,15) The “Equippers” Mandate “And He gave some to be prophets—for the equipping of the saints” (Eph. 4:12). The Greek word for equipping implies: A recovered wholeness, as when a broken limb is set and mends. A discovered function, as when a physical member is properly operating. The task of the gifted leader is to cultivate the individual and corporate ministries of those he leads. As the “equipper” his job is to help each member find his function in God, experience wholeness in his ministry, and to help each member find his place of service to God. ...HEBREW EXEGESIS BS 016 AN EXEGESIS OF THE BOOK OF AMOS 5:4-6 NAME: TABEA MATAUNICERE LECTURER: REV. PAULINI VUICUVU 13-Aug-15 Hebrew Exegesis BS 016 Introduction Hebrew exegesis is the art of taking out the meaning of the text from that Bible and not adding it on. Many times we have looked at the Bible from our own perspective and not what the real author intended it to be its real meaning. Doing exegesis is just trying to get to the original intention of the author. In this assignment I will be doing an exegesis on the book of Amos 5:4-6 whereby I will try to get closer to the real intention of the author, by looking at different translation, words, background and by following the exegetical processes that was given to us in class. ...THE WEST AFRICA THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY IPAJA, LAGOS, NIGERIA. COURSE TITLE: OLD TESTAMENT PROPHETS COURSE CODE: OT 614 COURSE LECTURER: PASTOR AKINOLA TOPIC: BOOK SUMMARY OF “A STUDY OF THE MAJOR AND MINOR PROPHETS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT” by Emmanuel Itapson & George E. Janvier prepared by: AYOBAMIJI JOSEPH OLUWAGUNNA March 2013 CHAPTER 1 It is pertinent to have a good understanding of hermeneutics in order to have a correct content and context concepts in the interpretation of the prophets. Because the Bible is quite uniquely different from all other types of literature – its divine Authorship and inspiration, being the major distinguishing feature and prominent hallmark, the interpretation requires divine guidance. Inspiration is the act of the Holy Spirit in leading a man to record the message of God in written documentary while Interpretation is the act of a man in determining the meaning as intended by God in the original passage and how it applies to us today. Interpretation involves skill, but more critically involves Spirit in keeping to rightness. The grammatico-historical method is generally applicable in Biblical hermeneutics to both basic, broad types of writings contained in Biblical literature. Categorized broadly as prose and poetry. Further insights is gained when there is understanding of the literature type being interpreted. Features of Old Testament prophecy: • Bible...

...them and who they were. God stopped talking openly to people after Adam and Eve were driven from the Garden, He then chose specific individuals through whom He would communicate. The prophet must be able to hear the voice of God and bring God’s words to the world. All prophecy will be “as the Spirit gives utterance” (Acts 2:4). In the ministry of a prophet, a called prophet speaks the message the Lord gives him. The first time the word “prophet” is used in the Bible is in the days of Abraham (Gen. 20:7). Each prophet had a specific message for the people of Israel from God. Some messages were warnings to Israel's about punishment if they continued to sin, others were about God's efforts to reconcile himself with Israel after a period of punishment, and prophecies about Israel and the nations it interacted with. Major Prophets of the Old Testament Isaiah’s period of prophecy was from 740 to 680 B.C. Isaiah is most often thought of as the greatest of the Old Testament prophets of the Bible. Isaiah prophesied about Israel's judgment and reconciliation with God, the coming savior Christ, and judgment of nations, and the end times. Jeremiah's ministry was from 630 - 585 B.C. In his writing he prophesized of the Israelites’ exile to Babylon, the fall of Jerusalem, and also prophesied against the nations of Egypt. The basic rules for a prophet are in the book of Jeremiah: "Wherever I send you shall go, and what I tell you, you shall say" (Jer. 1:7 [author translation]). Ezekiel’s period...

...Company’s Social Responsibility Aflac, the insurance company that helps employers offer their workers a financial safety net at no direct cost to their businesses, has been declared a World’s Most Ethical Company for a fifth consecutive year. The Ethisphere Institute, a think tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability, annually recognizes companies around the world that demonstrate a commitment to ethical leadership, compliance practices and corporate social responsibility. Aflac is the only insurance company to appear on the list each year since the inception of the award. According to Ethisphere, Aflac secured a hard-earned spot on the list by going the extra mile in implementing upright business practices and initiatives that are instrumental to the company’s success, that benefit the community, and that raise the bar for ethical standards within the industry. “As companies strive to maintain a competitive advantage, good ethics translates into better business, and better business means better bottom lines. Aflac recognizes the important role that principled practices play in brand reputation, which ultimately is the most valuable asset for a corporation,” said Alex Brigham, Executive Director of the Ethisphere Institute (Ethisphere Institute, 2012). ...appears in the role of God's instrument of judgment upon a wayward Israel because of the nation's widespread idolatry. Elisha, whose name in Hebrew means “God is Salvation,” was an Israelite prophet and disciple of Elijah. Elisha is described as a miracle worker, he is known for healing the sick and reviving the dead. Elisha was also involved in politics. Elisha’s message was to those in charge that they should turn back to traditional religious practices and acknowledge God’s absolute power over every aspect of life, personal as well as political. When he healed the sick, it was to demonstrate God’s power over life and death. When he helped in battle, it was to demonstrate God’s power over nations and kingdoms. Elijah had a much friendlier relationship then his mentor when it involved political authorities. Amos was a resident of the southern kingdom, his message was directed to Israel, particularly to its leading cities of Bethel and Samaria. The message of Amos is one of disapproval and judgment. The whole area of Israel is to suffer punishment for its evil. The immorality of these nations is seen in the sins with which they are charged. The Ammonites are condemned "because they have ripped up...

...1 THE REIGN OF GOD What was Jesus' primary message? Was it heaven, resurrection and eternal life? Was it his own divinity? Was it the development of a private spiritual relationship between the individual and God? Clearly not. The dominant theme in the gospels and the center of Jesus' proclamation was the reign or kingdom of God. This one phrase sums up his whole ministry and his whole life's work. Every thought and saying of Jesus was directed and subordinated to one single thing: the realization of the reign of God upon the earth. 2The Bible, also called the Scriptures or the Sacred Scriptures, is a collection of books written by human authors inspired by God. They are an account of God's revelation and plan of salvation for the human race. The Bible is made up of seventy-three books and is divided into two sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. 3 Do you realize that if you are a Christian, and have read the entire Bible, you are in the minority? Does this scare you? Well, it should! If you study the Bible yourself, you are in an even greater minority that even most pastors do not fall into! Yet, all of them would have an opinion of the Bible, teach, and make decisions based on their understanding of the Bible. 4 66 BOOK OF THE BIBLE 1. Genesis -22. Song of Songs -43. John -64. 3 John 2. ...A STUDY ON THE KINGDOM OF GOD A PROJECT SUBMITTED TO DR. JOEL AJAYI IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE OBST 592 OLD TESTAMENT ORIENTATION II BY JAMES D. PERKINS Student ID: 3437129 jdperkins3@liberty.edu LOUISVILLE, KY 5 OCTOBER, 2012 08 Fall 08 Fall Introduction The angel Gabriel visited the Virgin Mary and heralded one of the most debated and controversial eschatological statements in all of Scripture. "With breathtaking brevity, in one vast, glorious, revelation Gabriel succinctly summarized the entire ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ". There was nothing theologically new in the angel's announcement for much of it had been the subject of the Old Testament prophets, yet there is little agreement among scholars regarding its fulfillment. Gabriel, having come from the presence and glory of God (Luke 1:19), no doubt relayed the words of God in precise detail: "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end" (Luke 1:30-33 ESV). These words would have rung with Messianic overtones to any Jewish person living at that time, and Mary probably understood this to mean the inauguration of the anticipated Jewish...

...[pic] Executive Summary The following report is an examination of the Far East Asian country of Japan. This report includes a look at the past, present, and future of Japan’s economic stance, cultural values, and business opportunities. Our group examined the relations between the Georgia-based insurance company AFLAC, and their Japanese counterparts. This report explains AFLAC’s strategic motives and successes they have found in doing business in Japan. It also identifies some of the weakness and threats that are in the near future if current practices are not altered. With over 70% of the revenue coming from the Japanese market, AFLAC should be concerned with any changes in economic forecasting for the country as it will be sure to have a direct effect on the future of AFLAC U.S. Japan has long been, and continues to be a major ally to the United States in terms of business relationships and cultural influences. Our report serves to outline some of the noteworthy things to consider when conducting business with the Japanese. Through an examination of AFLAC’s individual experiences in Japan, this report demonstrates the need for professional businesspersons to be aware of the countries cultural, personal, and business preferences. With the increase in the age gap of Japan’s population, in addition to the change of workforce demographics, it is becoming increasingly more important for U.S. businesses to consider expanding their products and/or services...

The story of missions begins with around four thousand years ago when God calls Abraham. The Scriptures offer a clear explanation of the original calling of Abraham. God commands Abraham, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1 ESV) Genesis 12:1-3 signifies an assurance whose completion extends throughout the Scriptures, it is the original representation...

...we look back on history we can see that human beings have made great strides as well as suffered many setbacks in our development of fundamental doctrines and/or beliefs by which we live and view the world. These foundational beliefs have provided the framework for which all civilizations preserve, cooperate, and govern their way of life. Certainly throughout history, the spread of Christian theology and doctrine has been influential in establishing and developing a deeply rooted theistic and biblical worldview foundation; thus being the center of much debate. In light of the various views within Christian theology, we will focus specifically on doctrine that is foundational to the Christian faith: The belief the God is actively involved in His creation. Furthermore, we will examine how this belief (doctrine) affects the way we interact with people in a chosen vocation. Through Bible Scriptures and Daniel Akin’s textbook A Theology for the Church, we will show evidence to support this doctrine, identify meaningful connections between Scripture and our call to work (vocation), and apply this evidence to specific scenarios within Christian ministry. In traditional Christian theology the belief that God is actively involved in His creation is known as providence. According to the textbook, “the doctrine of God’s providence is related to the doctrine of creation…Millard Erickson compares creation and providence by calling creation “God’s originating work” and providence “God’s...

The Church's Mission and Ministry: A Recovery of Balance IV. Divine-Human Synergism in Ministry Footnotes Bibliography I. Introduction The Issue In Context The Church In this series of conferences begun last year, we are in process of reflecting on the direction and focus of the ministry and ministerial training in the Church of the Nazarene as our community of faith moves into the twenty-first century. We have attempted to approach our task from two complimentary perspectives, caricatured last year as the "field" of hands-on work and the "realm" of reflective inquiry (although I think there are serious problems inherent in such an artificial dichotomy of responsibilities). -1- From our initial attempts, it has become obvious that we face a multiplicity of issues in such an endeavor. The range and diversity of these issues arise partly from the variety of theological, historical, and practical concerns operating with each of us as individuals and partly from the assumptions and perspectives imported from particular arenas of ministry. One common element that keeps reappearing in various forms is the issue of the nature and mission of the Church. This issue is not unique to our enterprise in these conferences, as the new eleventh Article of Faith on...
