Rough draft Roland Dow and Jessica Linscott were on the run from police for the alleged beating of their child. This created a nationwide search as the couple had not been found for over ten days. This alone has created controversy and belief that the couple did in fact beat their child and were on the run because of it. These accusations are false because these young adults were clearly in love with their child and could never do such harm to him. They reported to police that they love their son and these injuries were a case of self infliction. Although it was reported they never brought the child to any doctors, the couple reported saying they cannot afford to pay for medical bills at the time because of the economy. Therefore the child could never receive care after his body had been wounded and it caused great bruising and tenderness. The families of Roland Dow and Jessica Linscott both agreed that the child had in fact created these wounds on his own will. There has not been any disclosure as to what specifically happened but it has been reported the child fell down the stairs and was left much harmed as a result. If both families are in support of their young children’s opinion, and actually agree themselves that these were in fact self inflicted, these two have a high probability of it being true. This case is at such magnitude that the family understands the truth should be told. Roland Dow, the mother of her three year old son, is being accused for not taking her child to a hospital for his injuries. While her boyfriend is being accused for beating the child. These two have claimed they would never hurt an innocent child and their families confirm that. They were there to care for their son when he was hurt but unfortunately couldn’t give him proper care. This is not a problem that they couldn’t afford to give the child what he needed, they did the best they could with the circumstances at hand. The family loved their child and now the child has been taken from them, and they feel like they should not even fight for their freedom anymore. This is not fair, the family deserves a fighting chance yet the odds are against them.

My Embarrassing Moment

...Forms of Swing In many scenes outside the United States, the term "swing dancing" is used to refer to one, or all, of the following swing era dances: Lindy Hop, Charleston, Shag, and Balboa. This group is often extended to include West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Hand Dancing, Jive, Rock and Roll, elden Jive, and other dances developed in the 1940s and later. A strong tradition of social and competitive boogie woogie and Rock 'n' Roll in Europe add these dances to their local swing dance cultures Early forms from the 1930s and 1940s * Lindy Hop evolved in the late 1920s and early 1930s out of the Partnered Charleston. It is characterized by an 8-count circular basic or "swing out" and has an emphasis on improvisation and the ability to easily adapt to include other steps in 8-count and 6-count rhythms. It has been danced to many different styles of music with blues or jazz rhythm (with the exception of jazz waltzes), as well as non-traditional styles of music such as hip hop. Lindy-Hop is characterized by tricks and high-flying arieal movements.] Lindy Hop got its name in 1927 when a reporter visiting New York's Savoy Ballroom asked a swing dancer what kind of dance they were doing. Because Charles Lindbergh had just made his news-making solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean, the dancer replied, "the Lindy-Hop." The name stuck. * Balboa is an 8-count dance that emphasizes a strong partner connection and quick footwork. A product of Southern California's crowded ballrooms...

Dance in the 1920s

...considered to be scandalous for their short dresses, bob haircuts and listening to Jazz music. The Charleston can be danced with a partner or in a group or solo. There are many variations of the dance but the basic steps involve kicking and swinging arms. It is danced in exaggerated and loose movements and the arms move in opposite direction to the legs. The Charleston was considered to be so scandalous and exuberant that it was banned from many dance halls. The Lindy Hop evolved from the Charleston Dance in the late 1920’s. It originated from the streets of the African American districts of New York City. It spread across the USA and eventually reached Australia as well. The name, Lindy Hop, came in 1927, when one of the original dancers, George Snowden, told a reporter, naming it after an aviator, Charles Lingergh who had completed a solo flight over the Atlantic and papers had reported his success as “Lindy Hops The Atlantic.” In Australia, the Lindy Hop was more commonly known as the Jitterbug. Hollywood films showed the Lindy Hop to Australian youth in the late 1920’s....

Chamberlin Case

...Chamberlain Case (1984). On 29 October 1982, in the Northern Territory Supreme Court, Lindy Chamberlain was convicted of murdering her nine-week-old daughter, Azaria, by cutting her throat in the front seat of the family car at a camping area beside Uluru (Ayers Rock) in central Australia. Her husband, Michael, was convicted as an accessory. Appeals to the Federal Court and the High Court were unsuccessful. The convictions were quashed in 1988 after a judicial inquiry. Few cases have generated as much public controversy. The role of the High Court in this drama was, however, a minor one. Controversy did not stem from the novelty and significance of the doctrinal issues raised by the case but from the ‘facts’: the question of what had happened to Azaria on the night of her disappearnce. Attempts to answer that question were to see law and science become embroiled in an intense polarisation of opinion which permeated Australian society. Unlike the names Mabo and Wik for example, which were not widely known until the High Court decisions were handed down, the name Chamberlain had assumed legendary significance by the time of the High Court appeal in November 1983. This process began a short time after Azaria Chamberlain disappeared from the family tent at Uluru on the evening of 17 August 1980. Her body was never found, although her heavily blood-stained singlet, jumpsuit and nappy were discovered a week later. Lindy Chamberlain alleged that a dingo had taken the baby. This allegation...

British History

...Debate: The 1906 general election has encouraged debate about whether the result was due primarily to Conservative weaknesses or to Liberal strengths. The Boer War: 1. It was far more costly in lives and money than had been expected and some of the methods used to defeat the Boers caused moral outcry in Britain. 2. It had revealed the effect of poverty in the cities, reflected in the findings by Booth and Rowntree that 10% of people in major cities lived below the poverty line. 3. It revealed the low national efficiency at that time and the need for social reforms. The Liberals had also gained support by claiming that the Conservatives had neglected this. 4. The war also had the effect of encouraging Joseph Chamberlain to push his campaign for tariff reform, which was argued as the Conservatives’ biggest policy misjudgement. The 1902 Education Act: 1. It provided for all schools to be funded from local rates. It was an unpopular reform with many amongst the electorate. 2. It had also helped to reunite the Liberal Party after the Boer War and restore Nonconformist support for the Liberals. A campaign was launched against the act led by the Liberal MP David Lloyd George. The 1904 Licensing Act: 1. Another issue annoyed nonconformist voters. Nonconformists denounced the 1904 Act as a ‘brewers’ bill’. The Chinese labour issue between 1902 and 1904: 1. It annoyed not only the nonconformists but also the trade unionists. The British...

Explain Why the Conservatives Lost the 1906 General Election

...Explain why the conservatives lost the 1906 General Election There are three main reasons the conservatives lost the 1906 General Election, one of the main reasons was the tariff reform. The Tariff Reform was a pressure group setup in 1903 to protest against unfair foreign imports to protect British industry from foreign competition. It was launched by Joseph Chamberlain; he wanted to reintroduce tariffs, with a lower level tariff for goods coming into Britain from the empire than for goods imported from non-empire countries. This policy was knows as imperial protectionism. Chamberlain argued, this would protect British jobs, help pay for social reforms and strengthen Britain’s position in the world be integrating the empire into an effective unit. At this time Balfour was the conservative prime minister and he was a very weak leader with not very many political skills he was also a weak leader, at this time he did not understand the working men’s reaction to the tariff and he allowed Joseph Chamberlain to make the Tariff Reform a key unionist policy from 1903 onwards this is showing us he could not control Joseph Chamberlain showing he was a weak and unsuitable leader. The Tariff Reform did damage the conservatives as there was a split in the party with people moving over to the liberals as the middle class and working class feared dearer foods and falling in living standards. The liberals voted for free trade so did disagree with the Tariff Reforms, Winston Churchill actually voted...

Uni Letter

...In the past a lot of things have distracted me from my education. From family problems, to getting bullied in school to the deaths of close friends. Despite the fact that I am still battling with some of these things till this day. I finally decided that I no longer want to play a victim to my circumstances. To say that “it has always been a dream of mine to attend University of Birmingham” would be very cliché and a lie. This is mainly because I never thought that university was an option for someone like me. A girl who isn’t the smartest or that comes from a background like mine. I always thought that I was destined to grow up and get a normal working class job. It is fair to say that I had a lack of self-confidence. My perspective on life changed after I decided to move schools in the summer of 2014 the day after I got my AS results. The fact that I got BDD upset me and made me feel completely dumb. That’s when I changed and decided that I no longer want go down the path of a typical working class girl I wanted to be more. I made the decision to retake my AS year at another school and get away from the bullying in my previous school and get a fresh start and I believe that, this was one of the greatest decisions I have made. In this school I have been pushed to achieve more and my confidence in my education and in myself has grown tremendously. I’m currently going down a new path where I am constantly aiming for more and where I don’t let my life situations at home deter...

Swing

...dance. It can be simple or complex, but you can be assured it's always fun. There are many different styles or versions of it, each with distinct characteristics. As its name implies, it is known for its swings, lifts and spins that can sometimes be quite complicated. It's a quick dance that requires a considerable degree of physical fitness. In this article we'll take a quick look at its history. The history of swing begins with the history of Lindy hop. Lindy hop originated in the late 1920s in New York and reached huge popularity in the 30s and 40s. It has its roots in the Charleston and Foxtrot and was danced to what was at a time called jazz music. Jazz music was also known as swing music and the dances danced to it became known as swing dances. Lindy hop got its name after Charles Lindbergh, the famous aviator. It is still danced today. In general, the term swing refers to a group of dances that were developed in the 20s, 30s and 40s of the last century. With the rising popularity of jazz music many different forms of dances like Lindy hop evolved: Jitterbug, Balboa, East coast and West coast swing, Boogie-woogie, Collegiate Shag, St. Louis Shag, and Imperial Swing, just to name a few. Although originally danced to the swing style of jazz music, you can dance to a wide variety of music styles, from country and pop to rock and roll. As music changed from the 1920s so did the dances. Rock and roll music brought, well, rock and roll. Rhythm & Blues music brought Imperial...

Comparing Styles in Music or Dance

...Comparing Styles in Music or Dance Jon Smith Art100 September 38, 2018 Professor Jonas Basom Comparing Styles in Music or Dance There is a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to love, a time to hate, and there is a time to dance. Dance is one of the most expressional forms of art that has been around for thousand of years. It allows communities to come together, celebrate, to tell a story, and to express emotion. It is an art that requires the use of almost all of the performer's body and soul. It has started wars, and it has brought peace. Dance has changed the world. Two of these styles are Ballet and Jazz, and they have been apart of society and life for many years. When one thinks of beauty and grace in dance, they cannot help but to think of Ballet. In the 15th century, Ballet was first developed in the Italian Renaissance courts. Celebrations like weddings and extravagant parties called for dancing to be an elaborate spectacle. At these events, dancing instructors taught Noblemen and women how to make these events truly memorable by having them participate in the performances. This was the meager beginning of Ballet until Catherine de Medici began to fund ballet in the French court in the 16th century. Catherine de Medici was the wife of King Henry II of France and a great patron of the arts. Catherine would throw elaborate festivals called ballet de cour. Ballet de cour included dance, decor, costume, song, music and poetry. It was a culmination of all the arts...

Jazz Dancing Research Paper

...Part A: Describe the origins and development of Jazz dancing Jazz dancing has changed a lot throughout the years but has always kept its stylish ways. It was interestingly enough originated by tap dancing because of the way it moves to the rhythms of the music with an African influence to it. Jazz dancing actually originated in Africa, and when the African slaves were brought over to America they started performing Jazz as a way to keep fit and healthy. By the 1930’s Jazz dancing had transformed and became a worldwide style and by the 60’s many choreographers such as Bob fosse was already using this style in different movies such as All That Jazz, pyjama game and Cabaret. Today Jazz dancing is used all over and more and more people are being inspired by this wonderful art. A Jazz piece can tell a story, it is very descriptive and the watcher should be able to feel the emotion through the dance if performed well. All That Jazz is a film that literally dances. Its opening is brilliant, a thrilling and poignant montage of leaping, straining but with the dancers in workout garb, and with Fosse capturing the action by putting the camera right onto the floor with them, creating a “you are there” feel. After watching all that Jazz you felt alive and wanting to dance, the music, the way it is choreographed and everything about makes you want to dance and be part of it. It makes you tingle when you watch and you want to be part of it. Part B: Describe the characteristics of Bob Fosses...

...Steven Kanhai Spring 2012 Causes of World War II The 1920’s begun with a favorable outlook for peace but toward the end of the decade and throughout the 1930’s the clouds of war was forming. Dictators arose in countries that were dissatisfied with the result of World War I, Germany, Italy, and Japan took aggressive actions and neither the League of Nations nor the democratic countries were able or willing to stop them. British Prime Minister Chamberlain suggested that the best way to deal with Hitler was a policy of appeasement. Actions were taken that moved Europe toward war. The debate over the causes of World War II provides different perspective. To begin with, the one form of appeasement was done by Germany when they annexed Austria. In Winston Churchill’s speech (Document 6) he disagreed with Chamberlains policy of appeasement. He also warned England about following a policy of appeasement. This document also stated that England and France should have protected Czechoslovakia against the Nazi’s. Another form of appeasement can be seen in the Munich Agreement (Document 7). The Munich agreement was a desperate act of appeasement at the cost of Czechoslovakia. It was a hope to stop Hitler’s hunger for land. However the Munich Agreement was unnecessary because the Czech defenses were very strong and Hitler was too weak at the time to attack Czechoslovakia. After Hitler took the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia Hitler also wanted Hungary, Rhineland, and the Danzig...
