Today’s society has immensely changed throughout the years in history. One of the biggest changes is women’s rights. They are almost part of a new generation compared to how it was in the past hundreds of years. Lisa Tetrault’s book, The Myth of Seneca Falls, is an inspiring book that shows how the beginning of the women’s movements came about in America. Tetrault is a historian in writing this book and is able to share the history of the Seneca Falls convention and also how some of the most well-known activists made it possible for a right known in America as women’s suffrage. As Tetrault writes this book she begins with a prologue in the beginning that explains some history background to the women’s movement. When reading many passages it was understandable of the author’s passion to expressing the history behind women suffrage. She doesn’t just mention her opinion on the story but, explains two intertwined stories that represent the myth of Seneca Falls. Throughout the book, there are dates mentioned that represent the times the events are happening which help understand follow the book. Additionally, during this time women had no voice in the matters of law, property, and wages, making them considerably oppressed of their citizenship. The 14th and 15th amendments paved a way for those underprivileged, but it is not until after the 19th amendment was finally passed that shows everything these radicals went through came to be a well done reform and a step toward gender equality.
