...Listen Up! HCA/230 November November 10, 2013 Listen Up! To: All Staff From: Office Manager Date: Novermber10, 2013 Subject: Active listening and its benefits. As you all may know, I recently attended a conference where I acquired information about active listening and its benefits in the health care workplace. We all know that listening is a process that is learned. As health care providers and professionals it is very crucial to pay close attention to what our patients and fellow colleagues have to say regarding their health. The study of literature concentrating on communication and listening in healthcare agrees with the acceptance that listening is a vital aspect in patient contentment. (Davis, Thompson, & Foley, 2008). To become a more improved active listener you would only need to follow four simple steps. With these four simple steps we can all succeed as better listeners for our patients. The first step is do not interrupt the person who is speaking. Instead of saying something whenever the someone says something we may not agree with, it is best to just listen until he or she is through speaking. While you are listening, without interrupting the patient, you should also watch him or her as they speak. According to "Active Listening Strategies" (2013), " A lot of information can be obtained by watching as well as by listening.” (Look at the person who is speaking.). This way all of the information is given and received without anything being left...

...Invisible HUNTER HAYES LYRICS Crowded hallways are the loneliest places For outcasts and rebels Or anyone who just dares to be different And you've been trying for so long To find out where your place is But in their narrow minds There's no room for anyone who dares to do something different Oh, but listen for a minute Trust the one Who's been where you are wishing all it was Was sticks and stones Those words cut deep but they don't mean you're all alone And you're not invisible Hear me out, There's so much more to life than what you're feeling now Someday you'll look back on all these days And all this pain is gonna be invisible Oh, invisible So your confidence is quiet To them quiet looks like weakness But you don't have to fight it 'Cause you're strong enough to win without a war Every heart has a rhythm Let yours beat out so loudly That everyone can hear it Yeah, I promise you don't need to hide it anymore Oh, and never be afraid of doing something different Dare to be something more Trust the one Who's been where you are wishing all it was Was sticks and stones Yeah, the words cut deep but they don't mean you're all alone And you're not invisible Hear me out, There's so much more of this life than what you're feeling now And someday you'll look back on all these days And all this pain is gonna be invisible These labels that they give you just 'cause they don't understand If you look past this moment You'll see...

...With savagery being a strong human impulse, it can abruptly arise and entirely change a person’s state of mind. William Golding develops the theme that savagery is a delicate human trait, where it can be contained but not abolished through Jack progressively becoming more violent and cruel. ‘“I went on. I thought, by myself —“ The madness came into his eyes again. “I thought I might kill.”’ (Golding 51). This passage shows Jack being exposed to the savagery within him. Golding develops savagery as a symbol using various methods. Golding uses savagery as a central theme in Lord of the Flies. Jack uses hunting as an outlet for his rage, putting it over other imperative projects. “The fire’s only been out an hour or two. We can light up again.”...

...Sally and Steve have been dating for about a month or so, and things seem to be going smoothly, besides the fact that Steve says that Sally is constantly pissing him off. She is always texting him and never giving him space, she overreacts about every little thing he does wrong, she expects him to read her mind constantly, when he compliments her she denies the compliment, and worst of all, she never stops talking. Like Sally, most women are always pointing the finger at men for causing problems in their relationship; they claim that men do not communicate or meet their every need, but in reality women are the problem. Men do not know how to handle women most of the time because women piss them off so much. In order to prevent this from happening, women need to know how they piss men off so that they can prevent themselves from doing these things. 1. Constantly text them and never give them space. Men need space just as much as women do, and when women are constantly nagging them, they do not get the space they need. Women tend to constantly text their boyfriend, “What are you doing? Where are you? Who are you with? Why aren’t you responding?” This is not going to make their boyfriend reply any faster than he would have before. This step tends to piss off men because sometimes they just need time alone from their girlfriends to gather themselves before confronting her about where he has been for the past three hours. Ladies, starting “World War III” because they do not reply...

...#1: Beware of interrupting Titanic wireless operator Jack Phillips interrupted a wireless message from a nearby ship, telling them to shut up. In doing so, he prevented that ship from sending Titanic an iceberg warning. Be careful about interrupting others, particularly your customers. They'll be especially upset if, while they're explaining a problem, you interrupt them and start offering a solution. If you feel you have to interrupt, at least cut to the chase and tell the other person what you think his or her main idea was. That way, the other person at least can confirm or correct you, and in either case save time. #2: Listen actively Did you ever get the feeling, when talking to someone that you were really talking to a wall? The person may have heard you but gave no indication of it at all. Avoid doing the same thing. When communicating with others, it's just as important that people be aware that you're listening as it is that you're actually listening. For that reason, be involved with and react to what the other person is saying, either via a nod, or an "I see," or a paraphrase of the other person's statements. You'll strengthen your own understanding and make a better impression. #3: Avoid negative questions Suppose you say to a customer, "You don't have Word installed?" and he answers "Yes." What does he mean? Yes, you're right, Word is not installed? Or yes, he DOES have Word installed? Asking a negative question creates confusion. It's clearer if you phrase...

...The short story has therefore a historical meaning. The title of the whole story is symbolic cause of the army that Mr. Vello creates. Within the army there is a revolt and which is between Mr. Vellon and the boys. The text”The Indian Mutyni”, is a short story written by Will Self. The short story is about how a former student at Creighton Comprehensive School, Fein a talk show host, who action as a child led to his supply teacher committing suicide. It’s about how he feels great guilt. Guilt about how he treated Mr. Vello haunts him. The impression we as readers get of Fein, is that he was that kind of boy who was feared by all teachers. He knew that and he took advantage of it. In the first lesson with the class they were told to shut up by Mr. Vello, but class 4b didn’t follow that order. In class 4b, there were 3 minorities: There were “The Jews”, “The Gentiles” and “The Asians”. The ones who controlled the class, who had the power was the Gentiles and the Jews, who also called themselves “The Yids” and “The Yocks”, they fought about the power in the class. The Asians were different from the others. They were all first-generation immigrants. All the students except the Asians, was seen as the doomed dregs of the society. “Mr Vello saw the rest of us, immediately, for what we were: time-servers; time-wankers; boys full of nasty decadences. The doomed dregs of our culture.” (p 3, line 13-15.) The class was the type of students that could see the weakness in a teacher, practically...

But the ten white girls we encounter at the camp are closer to us and, therefore, more real and capable of exciting envy and hatred. At the end of the first day at camp, Arnetta reports she heard one of the white girls refer to Daphne, a black girl, as "a nigger." On prompting by Arnetta, Daphne, a quiet girl, nods her head to confirm that the derogatory term was used. Arnetta tells the other girls that they cannot let the white girls get away with using that word about them. She told us that we must teach the white girls a lesson. Janice suggests that they put daddy-long-legs in the white girls' sleeping bags, and when the girls awake, beat them up. Arnetta told Janice, to shut up and then announced that we are going to hold a secret meeting. She then turned to me and asked if I had plans to tell Mrs. Margolin, who was our troop leader, about the situation. On the second day of camp, our troop ate our sandwich lunch by a stream that borders the field hockey lawn. Arnetta, for some reason, eyed the white...

...How Businesses Are Organised and Their Purposes Division of work Work is divided up in the Coca Cola business because this makes it much easier for employees so that they can get the job done. This takes out conflicts between individuals opinions towards the work they are working on. This will mean that no one can say anything about each other’s work and they can do the work in piece without any contribution from others unless it is wrong that needs to be improved told by the manager. Lines of control This means that if Coca Cola Company knows what they are doing and they can control the activities being done. The heads of Coca Cola set task to the senior managers then they do the same thing setting the task to the employees.
