3. Does the writer offer enough support (at least six to eight detailed sentences) of his or her topic sentence or point? Where could the writer add more support? Be specific. Are the steps in the process sequential (in some kind of order, time or space)?

4. Does the writer define a term for his or her issue? Did the writer cover every facet of that definition, using six or more sentences to do so? Consider the Reporter’s Questions (who, what, when, where, why, and how).

5. Are there places where you have to stop and reread the sentence to understand it?

6. Does the writer supply enough transitions to assure “flow” from one sentence to the next? If not, where would you add transitions? Place arrows at those points.

7. Copy the summary statement. Is it weak? Explain how you would make the sentence more forceful.
