Introduction to education
EDU-120

For my child’s school I would consider several factors to ensure that they are in the best possible learning environment. I believe that it is not just a case of having the best teachers and assuming that they will get the best experience. The classroom should be the centre for all major activity and have lots of room for children to not feel crammed in and have a full interactive whiteboard so the children can feel more immersed in the lesson. It would have windows that ran along the wall to allow lots of natural sunlight as I feel working under fluorescent light can hurt children’s eyes whilst trying to read. I feel that there should be an area in the classroom where children could read and take time to themselves. I would like it if there was a pet in the room also to teach the children about how to look after animals and other creatures. I would like to have the tables set up in rows for when doing class work but also be able to change them to circles for group work and projects. For the cafeteria, I would prefer a place where the children are offered a choice of healthy meals and there is ample seating. I think that the portions should be small enough for a child and try to combat the obesity problem in this country. I feel that lunch time is a great time for children to relax much like recess but without the running around so the cafeteria needs to be a place where my child can do this. I would like it if there were a lot of opportunities for sport at the school with a selection of sports on offer such as soccer, basketball and softball. Also if there was a swimming pool available it would be a great chance for my child to learn how to swim. I think if there were both indoor and outdoor facilities so that sport could be played throughout the school year it would keep my child

Scribe and Evaluate Carl Jung’s Theory

...immense. Many of Jung’s original theories and methodology still influences the way psychologists and psychoanalysts practice today. Psychological concepts such as ‘archetype’, ‘collective unconscious’, ‘the complex’ and ‘synchronicity’ are Jungian precepts. The ‘Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which is used today to measure an individuals perception of their surroundings and how their decisions are formed, is based on Jung’s ‘Typological theory’. Jung’s father being a pastor and his mother an atheist (in modern day terms) from an early age gave Jung the opportunity to consider and reflect on both “sides” of the religious vs non-believer question, along with the subsequent impact and conflicts within his own psyche. Throughout Jung’s life he expressed a keen interest in nature and spiritual matters, both of which would go onto profoundly influence his work. Originally trained as a clinician Jung was drawn into (at the time, unfashionable) psychiatry whilst working with psychotic patients. It was whilst reading a psychiatric textbook that referred to psychosis as a ‘personality disease’ that Jung became really focused on psychiatry. He was aware that patient’s presenting...

Chapter One of Alternatives to Gdp

...Abstract This paper discusses Gross Domestic Product and related concepts as a measure of social progress and welfare. Although GDP remains the most widely used measure of social progress, the recent global financial crisis and continued depletion of natural resources and environmental adverse impact has brought into question the use of GDP as the main indicator of social welfare. Four alternatives to GDP are assessed and evaluated as the standard for national accounts for Botswana and China. Alternatives fall into the following broad categories, corrected GDP and extended national accounts, composite indexes and subjective approaches. Key Words: composite indicators; economic growth; GDP, sustainable indixes. Botswana, China   Table of Contents   Introduction A region's gross domestic product, or GDP, is one of the ways for measuring the size of its economy. The GDP of a country is defined as the total market value of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time (usually a calendar year). It is also considered the sum of value added at every stage of production (the intermediate stages) of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time. Until the 1992 the term GNP or gross national product was used in the United States. The two terms GDP and GNP are almost identical - and yet entirely different; GDP (or GDI - Gross Domestic Income) being concerned with the region in which income is generated...

Cultural Influence on Organizational Practice

...frequent in contemporary literature. In fact, there are almost no relevant attempts to examine these phenomena. Nevertheless, after democratic political changes in May 1991, we can observe a growing interest in understanding national culture and leadership practices in Ethiopian organizations, as well as in the whole Ethiopian society. Therefore, the main purpose of this assignment paper is to investigate the influence of national culture on organizational culture and practices (subcultures and leadership styles) in Ethiopian organizations. Widely known Geert Hofstede’s value/belief theory of culture (Hofstede, 2001) with its theoretical and methodological premises has been used as a starting point of this assignment.   1 2. 2.1. Like many other behavioral science terms like Leadership, there are many different definitions of culture used in management today. The famous Dutch behavioral scientist, Geert Hofstede defined culture “as the collective mental programming of a people in an environment". These mental programming consists of values, attitudes,...
