...13 December 2012 Commuting vs. Dorming The hardest decision a student has to make during their senior year of high school is which school to attend and whether to live on campus or commute. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both scenarios. The entire college experience is a learning trip and it is oftentimes a young adults first step towards independence. Living on campus is an adjustment and is a huge eye-opener to the real world. The college dorm life is considered to be part of the "full college experience," but the costs of living in a residence hall can persuade students to remain home while they are in college in order to avoid housing fees. The biggest advantage of living on campus is that it gives you a chance to gain independence. Some students know they want to move out of the house but aren't quite sure they're ready to have their own apartments. Living on campus can provide an in-between step (Lyons 1). Students will still be living on their own and responsible for taking care of their living space, it just wont be as overwhelming as paying rent and everything else that comes with owning an apartment. Another great thing about living on campus is you are much closer to your classes so it will take much less time to get there. Being able to get to and from classes more quickly means students living on campus will also have more time to devote to getting their coursework done (Lyons 1). One main advantage of living in a dorm is that companions...

...English 0310 10/21/11 On Post Housing vs. Off post Housing Being a part of the military comes with a lot of amenities and benefits. One of the most popular amenities offered to soldiers and their family members is housing. As a soldier, the army pays for your living arrangements. Soldiers are given a basic housing allowance; with that allowance, soldiers can either choose to live on post or off post. There are pros and cons to both ways of living. A few things to consider are bills, maintenance and your basic housing allowance and security. Many soldiers have their own preference to why it’s better to live on post or off post. Speaking as a member of a military family, I believe it’s better to live on post and be secure financially, but some people beg to differ. Living on post can be good for most soldiers and their families. The army gives soldiers a basic housing allowance. The normal rate for the basic housing allowance is $1000.00. If the decision is made to live on post, the army keeps that allowance and provides a nice home. One of the pros of moving on post is there are no utility bills. Some soldiers are not used to paying bills, and often pay bills late. So living on post is a great idea for soldiers and their families that are just starting out. Another amenity offered on post is the maintenance. If there is any maintenance issues or problems with the home you’re living in, the army will send someone to your home to fix it for free. Security is also something...

...Renting Vs. Homeownership Jasmyn Gould ECPI University Online Thesis: Most people would either like to rent or become a homeowner, but there are several factors that need to be address before making the decision; these reasons include financial status, lifestyle, tax deductions, privacy, commitment, savings, utility cost, and a whole lot of research. Today’s housing market is on the rise, so this is the time to jump in or is it? You are probably asking, what advantages do I have if I purchase a home or rent? What would be better for me financially? It is important to know some facts of renting vs. homeownership before making such an important decision. Homeownership is not for everyone. I believe it’s up to the individual if they want to rent or buy. In some cases people are just better off renting. Before buying a home, it’s important to consider how that purchase will affect your finances and your lifestyle. Homes typically increase in value by allowing you to build equity in it, which will offer an investment for the future. Every time a mortgage payment is made, it is applied to your balance which reduces the loan that was taken out. Your monthly costs are usually more predictable and more stable than renting because they’re ideally based on a fixed-rate mortgage. Which means, the monthly amount of your mortgage will not increase for the duration of the loan. An article from TurboTax said (2013), “You know that you can get an income tax deduction on the mortgage...

...Apartment Living Vs. Living in a House At some point in everyone’s life they are faced with the decision of choosing where they want to live. This can be a very difficult decision to make. Depending on the lifestyle you have or are wanting, there are many options. The first thing that you need to decide is what type of housing suits your needs and preferences. In the world we live in today you can choose from the convenience of an apartment or the freedom of a house. There are several advantages and disadvantages to both of them. Let us begin with the size of property you are looking for. Apartments can vary in size, they are built to please families and single people. Efficiency apartments are good for those who are not needing a lot of space. They are typically very compact and fit an entire apartment in just one room. If this is not for you and maybe you have a family, you can get an apartment with up to three bedrooms and two bathrooms. On the other hand, if you would prefer a house, they too vary in size. With a house you have more options on the amount of bedrooms you can choose from. There are houses available from only one bedroom and up to as many as you need. The size of the rooms are also a factor that you need to consider. The two main differences between the size of an apartment and the size of a house, are the sizes of the kitchen and the bathrooms. These rooms are much smaller in most apartments than they are in a house. All though they are still just as...

...PAKISTAN VS. PAKISTANIS In order to understand the importance of the independent state, Pakistan let me first clear the picture of what would have happened if Pakistan had not come into being. If Pakistan had not come into being, we would either have been governed and ruled by the British or the Hindus. If the British would not have given us independence, they would still have been ruling us. No people in the whole world like to be rules by some other nation. There would have been everything but harmony. People would have been dying in the fight of getting their rights and freedom. They would still have been rioting against studying English or wearing pants. Well that was a joke! In short, nobody would have been living in peace. As far as being ruled by the Hindus is concerned, we all are fully aware of the legendary Hindu-Muslim controversy and blood-threatening conflicts. So, we would have been fighting again for freedom and rights. In both the cases, we the Muslims would have been at the disadvantage. We should thank leaders such as Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal for getting us an independent country where we can say our prayers, fast and say “Asalam-o-alaikum” to any passerby without the fear of getting shot. Its another issue that now-a-days our ways of greeting each other have changed from “Asalam-o-alaikum” to “Hi, hello, what’s up dude? Etc.” This country was made for Muslims of Subcontinent. It is a rich country. It is rich in minerals and fossil...

...Long Term Care Facility vs. Home Health Care Nursing Karen Waite Eng/102 July, 2014 Will mom or loved one receive better care at home or in a nursing home? This is a hard choice to make, but which is the best? In this paper, it examines the efficiency of home care programs, assisted living and long-term care programs. It examines the care and cost of the different programs with respect. The decision of whether or not to place an aging parent (or a loved one) into a long-term care facility, or to try and to keep them in their own home or yours is one that many American families are facing each day. Factors in dealing with this decision are too numerous to count, but we will address a few of them in the following paper, like the financial aspects, psychosocial, and meeting the overall needs of our ever aging parents or ill loved one. Taking care of your loved one is a full time job in most cases. Long-term care facilities are a traditional approach to caring for the elderly or chronically ill members of society. These facilities are set up in a couple of different ways to provide specialized care depending on a person’s need. In some cases, mom may not need a great deal of care with her daily living, but may need help with fixing food or remembering to take her medication. So, the first point of our discussion is assisted living facilities. These are apartment type communities that specialize in assisting seniors who may have a problem accomplishing their normal activities...

...City vs. Country Living Tired of waking up to gunshots or sirens at 3 A.M? Does the thought of crickets being the loudest noise around sound appealing? Big city living and country living both offer a place to lay down roots and make a house a home. It has always been a controversial decision when determining whether country living or city living is best, it is all based on what people’s perception of living is. But, both would require a particular type of person due to the dramatic differences each has. The difference between the city and country are; surroundings, entertainment, transportation, employment, and education. The city offers a variety of buildings of all different shapes, and sizes. The bright lights at night can be real pleasing to the eyes such as the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington or the Empire State Building in New York City, New York. People travel from all over the world to see these kinds of structures. Which leads us to the wonderful 5 mile an hour bumper-to-bumper traffic, and beautiful brownish/yellow tinted skies. There are houses as far as the eyes can see; they are so close that best friends can basically jump from rooftop to rooftop. Where as in the country, there might not be another house or car for miles. Trees or large open fields usually surround the houses; this may be the main reason for the fresh, crisp clean air. People can lie out at night and count the stars, since there are no distractions from buildings or bright lights. This...

...occur over the course of your life that can be understood through a social point of view. I have decided to explore the social-conflict approach society displays through aging, and the impact on society by relating the Frontline video clip we watched in class, “Living Old”. The social - conflict theory argues that individuals and groups, such as social classes within society have differing amounts of material and non-material resources such as wealth and poverty. As well as, it refers to various types of negative social interaction that may occur with social relationships and well being. For example rich vs. poor. I believe this has always been a social concern and is increasing due to successful research and modern improvements in medicine and healthcare. Resulting in elderly people living longer than before. Aging and social-conflict in this video emphasizes the involvement of the aging or older individuals in social activities and engagement in society due to their social status. As well as the ability to be able to take care of themselves in the elder years. I believe that individuals from more of an upper class tend to have better health and independence, which leads them to be more dependent than those of a lower class in their elder years. They typically have even better or greater access to healthcare, consistent access to food, medicine and housing, and can afford to have the help they need for daily tasks and well being of living. Even though a wealthier...

...audience? What was your basic reaction to the piece? Did you find it Funny? Sad? Tense? Etc? The story is about everyday life in a town called Grover’s Corners. What had happened at the end is Emily had died during childbirth and is sad about not being able to do stuff as she use to when alive. She tells the fellow dead that humans just don’t understand the beauty of earth and life. The basic story is very well easy to follow. The performers added a lot of clarity to a difficult set to become real in life and made it look easy to do. The play was well executed. My reaction was that I couldn’t believe she had died during childbirth and that people take for granted the life we have on earth and just don’t get it. It was a sad story with the death from Emily and her reaction of being dead. 2) What was the main conflict? State in a ________ vs. ________ way, such as “Oedipus vs. The people of the kingdom” or Father vs. Son” or “Melissa vs. her own past” or “Ann vs. traditional woman roles.” The main conflict was to be the town and the separation of Emily and understanding the way humans look at life. When saying,” they don’t understand,” is talking about the beauty of earth and life itself. When Emily becomes nostalgic about everyday life, that shows you how the living takes advantage of their life. 3) Was the conflict resolved? Why or why not? The conflict wasn’t resolved because to Emily she was unable to communicate to the living and was not able to...

..."My Little Bit of Country" by Susan Cheever What would you prefer; The relaxing life of the suburbs or the wild diversity of the urban life? Some would prefer one while the other would feel inexplicably horrible in choosing the other. “My Little Bit of Country” is an essay by Susan Cheever, this essay starts from when she was a little girl and ends in 2012 which is when she wrote the essay. In the beginning little Susan Cheever was living in New York and was pretty happy with her life there, but that wasn’t enough for the family, they wanted the American Dream with the white picket fence and a place in the “real” country, as Susan Cheever puts it. This did not please her and she really disliked the suburbs, that when she got older she would go to New York as much as possible. In the end she moves to New York again and is happy and forever satisfied with the urban life. The story is basically written with contrasts, contrasts and more contrasts. The most obvious one is the suburb life vs. the urban life; country vs. city. She very much dislikes the country life, it being a step down from the city: “Why would I want to scrape around the rough, dangerous ice of a country lake when I could glide around the smooth ice at the Wollman Ring and pause for a hot chocolate when my toes and fingers get too cold?” here she compares the natural procedure of the lake turning to ice with a manmade ice rink specifically made to be the most safe way to skate. Some would say that the country would have something special about it...
