...How to apply a LEM connector update package Overview Apply the LEM data connector update package any time SolarWinds updates a connector you use, usually when Support informs you to do so. SolarWinds automatically updates all of your data connectors any time you perform an appliance upgrade, but you can use stand-alone connector updates from Support as needed to address "Unmatched Data" alerts in your environment. Procedure To apply a LEM connector update package: 1. Prepare the update package: a. Download the Connector Update package here or from the Additional Components page on the SolarWinds Customer Portal. The download is approximately 3 MB. b. Unzip the file. c. Open the SolarWinds-LEM-Connectors folder. d. Copy the LEM folder to the root of a network share. For example: C:\share\LEM\. 2. Connect to your LEM virtual appliance using a virtual console or SSH client. 3. Access the CMC prompt: o Virtual Console: Arrow down to Advanced Configuration, and then press Enter. o SSH Client: Log in using your CMC credentials. 4. At the cmc> prompt, enter manager. 5. At the cmc::cmm# prompt, enter sensortoolupgrade. 6. Press Enter to validate your entry. 7. Enter n to indicate that your update is on the network. 8. Press Enter to validate your entry. 9. Enter the server and share name for the location into which you saved the update package in \\server\share format. 10. Enter y to confirm your entry. 11. Enter the domain and user name for a user that can access the share in domain\user...

...Port Expander “Port expanders are devices that allow one port on a computer system to connect to multiple devices. There are two basic forms of port expander: internal and external. An internal expander has a connection inside the computer, while the external connects to the outside the computer through an existing port via USB.”(What Is a Port Expander?) The use of a surge protectors or aka splitters is used to connect multiple devices so that they can get power from the wall outlet in order to work. While on the other hand port expanders get there power from the computer instead from a wall outlet. There are different types of port expanders: Ethernet port expander hardware, FireWire port expander hardware, DB-25 port expander hardware, Serial port expander hardware, USB port expander hardware, VGA port expander hardware, DVI port expander hardware, SCSI port expander hardware, Audio port expander hardware, Video port expander hardware, Microphone port expander hardware, RS-422 port expander hardware, Modbus Serial port hardware, SATA port expander hardware, SAS port expander hardware and SSD port expander hardware. Some port expanders can work on all computers while other port expanders can only work on some computers it is depended on what kind of motherboard that computer is using. “The advantages of using port expanders are that you get more ports to use. SAS expanders take one port and make many out of them. SSD are so much faster, often capable of reading 200MBPS or...

...the PC and also troubleshoot the computer in Safe Mode with the display driver disabled (in case the driver is the cause of the problem). VGA History VGA was introduced on IBM's PS/2 line in 1987 and quickly replaced the earlier digital CGA and EGA interfaces, which had lower resolution and fewer colors. In a short time, non-IBM vendors boosted resolution and colors, calling them "Super VGA." IBM later introduced XGA with a 1024x768 resolution, and over the years, numerous resolutions were added that were fractions or multiples of the total number of pixels in VGA and XGA resolutions. See screen resolution and XGA. The VGA Port (Socket) Using D-sub sockets, VGA, serial and game ports were found on the back of early PCs. See D-sub connectors. Screen Resolutions Modern PC display adapters support a variety of SD and HD resolutions. This illustration compares the viewing area for several of...

...Step 1: Mounting the power supply to the computer case A fairly simple step to get your started. Before messing with the motherboard, RAM, and CPU, I mounted the power supply to the computer case. Simply slide the power supply into the computer from the INSIDE. I’ve heard horror stories of people trying to jam the power supply through the back. Once you get the power supply into the case, the mounting holes should line up like so… Simply tighten down the screws that were provided and TADA, you have taken the first step in building your own computer! Congratulations! Step 2: The Motherboard Adding the processor (CPU) The CPU is considered the “brains” of the computer. This little piece of metal and silicon is involved in 100% of your daily computing activities whether it’s something as simple as clicking your mouse or something as complex as editing the video you just took of a recent vacation. Because of its importance, you should handle this piece with EXTREME care. Once you have located your CPU socket, the area that will house your CPU, you are ready to mount the CPU to the motherboard. Unpackage your CPU and any other parts that came with it (likely a heat sink and maybe some thermal compound). Typically, new CPUs will come with a heat sink and thermal compound applied to it already but if not, you WILL need to apply thermal compound to it. Processors can easily reach 100 degrees Celsius otherwise known as the boiling point for liquids…not a good thing! ...

...Port Expander A port expander is a hardware device designed to allow a user to utilize more than one device on a single port at one time. For example, the device may allow seven devices to connect to one serial port. Hardware Expander Types: * Ethernet Port Expander Hardware * FireWire Port Expander Hardware * DB-25 Port Expander Hardware * Serial Port Expander Hardware * USB Port Expander Hardware * VGA Port Expander Hardware * DVI Port Expander Hardware * SCSI Port Expander Hardware * Audio Port Expander Hardware * Video Port Expander Hardware * Microphone Port Expander Hardware * RS-422 Port Expander Hardware * Modbus Serial Port Hardware * SATA Port Expander Hardware * SAS Port Expander Hardware * SSD Port Expander Hardware Port expanders are generic devices that can be used with any computer as long as the computer has the port for which you are trying to use and expander for. Now pretty much every computer from PC to MAC has all the same ports on them. It used to be that MAC was the only one using Firewire, but then it became available on the PCs. However, even since it became available on PCs, it has now been mostly phased out. Well, depending on what you are using it for there are different kinds of advantages and disadvantages. If you are using it on a desktop or home computer one of the advantages is the ability to allow more devices of a particular port type to be utilized at the same time. One disadvantage...

...Arcacia Godfrey 1/19/15 Unit 4 Assignment 1 Port Expanders A Port Expander is a computer hardware that allows more than one device to connect to a single port on a computer. The commodore VIC-20 used a port expander to allow more than one cartridge to be connected to the single ROM cartridge. There are fourteen different types of port available on the expander hardware. * DB-25 Port Expander * Fire wire Port Expander * Serial Port Expander * USB Port Expander * VGA Port Expander * DVI Port Expander * SCSI Port Expander * Audio Port Expander * Video Port Expander * Microphone Port Expander * RS-422 Port Expander * Modbus Port Expander * SATA Port Expander * SAS Port Expander * SSD Port Expander Port Expanders will work for almost any P.C, specific expanders are not made for different PC’s as they are all the same. The advantages of using port expanders are that you can use more ports. SAS port expanders takes a single port and makes many out of them. A single 6GBps port can be expanded so you can connect up to 8 different devices. The Disadvantages of using this are if you used all 8 ports of the 6GBps each device shared this throughout slowing all devices connected this would create a bottleneck effect of all the data and information running through the single port. They are mostly external and require a large power supply creating a strain for a stock supply designed for a specific work load as well as the...

...Port Expander A port expander essentially allows one to become two. What I mean by that is it allows more than one device to connect to a single port. Expanders are equivalent to splitters or extension cords in everyday life. They are usually inside the computer on the motherboard, with the only visible part of it being the extension plate showing multiple ports. Some example of the type of ports that we’ve covered and that I’m familiar with are: Ethernet Port Firewire Port Serial Port VGA Port Audio/Video Ports SATA Port DVI Port USB Port DB-25 Port Microphone Port Port expanders are pretty generic, meaning that they’re compatible for almost any PC. There is not a specific expander made for the numerous number of computer brands on the market today. The advantages and disadvantages sort of go together when talking about port expanders. They do allow you to connect more devices at one time but it also slows those devices down. Depending if the port has a 3GBps or 6GBps, all the devices had to share that speed, rather than being used individually and using all of the particular speed for one device. In most cases, buying port expanders are more convenient than trying to find a computer that comes with that many ports for a decent price. The only true downside you could run into would be the amount of power you have available on your computer. There are only so many ports you can use at one time before you overload your computer. Once it overloads...

An internal expander has a connection inside the computer, typically on the motherboard and the only part the user sees is the expansion plate that contains multiple ports. A disadvantage is that a lot of the time they are external and can be annoying by being in the way. Also , if your power source isn’t good enough it could cause problems. When you add more devices it takes up more power, the power source can only handle so many extra ports.
