Logistics Lets the Game Begin

Now this article caught my interest because I love me some football and I never really picture football and logistics as a couple until I read and really thought about how both go hand and hand. I forgot that everything you do in life that you want done right takes preparation and logistics is a major for of preparation. Before the high-profile athletes and rebid fans arrive at a major professional sports event, superstar logisticians and planners perform their own feats of greatness to ensure the big game goes off without a hitch. So after reading this comment, the thought of the NBA, NHL, MLB, all of the NCAA’s sports as well as any other sport that is played all have people, mainly logisticians there in the background making sure that all of the big games and events goes off without a glitch. I know I would love to work for some major NFL franchise doing logistics. That would be the highlight of my life. Making it to the final contest that determines a professional sports championship takes practice, hard work, and determination – whether you’re and athlete competing or part of the team charged with planning the momentous event. The whole world will be watching, and the slightest oversight could have game – changing repercussions. Organizers of the Super Bowl in Arlington, Texas, faced challenges including frozen roads, ice falling from the stadium roof; events spread 30mmiles apart, and pre-sold temporary seating that was not ready on game day. Now to the outside world of logistics probably believe that all of these mishaps could have been avoided and true some of them could have. But if you worked in this field long enough you already know that mishaps happen. You have to know what to do be able to react quickly after they happen. Like I stated early I would love to have some part in

Logistics

...11.1 Logistics In both vertical and horizontal marketing systems, systematised information contributes to the efficient flow of goods and services from the point-of-origin to the point-of-consumption. This process of regulation begins with customer service and extends to the procurement, handling, and processing of resources aimed at delivering customer satisfaction. All ways in which resources are procured, handled, and processed fall within a set of activities known as logistics. Logistics  is a process of systematising information to facilitate the efficient and cost-effective flows of goods and services to produce customer satisfaction. Each member in the supply chain must be involved in logistics activities. Logistics flows may begin with the supplier/manufacturer relationship, but efficient logistics activities are needed throughout the marketing channel. Relationship marketing epitomises the interac-tive process necessary to achieve customer satisfaction by maintaining a participative exchange of information with all of a firm’s channel partners. In addition, develop-ments in electronic retailing are now aimed at making this whole process more effective and efficient.   The Council of Logistics Management defines logistics management as: ‘The process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, cost-effective flow and storage of raw materials, in-process inventory, finished goods, and related information from point-of-origin to point-of-consumption for...

...Task 1: Ethical Situations in Business Assessment Code: EST1 Student Name: Student ID:   Date: Task A Peter Drucker once wrote (n.d.), “profits for a company is like oxygen for a person. If you don’t have enough of it, you’re out of the game. But if you think your life is about breathing, you’re really missing something”. What Drucker meant is it’s not all about the almighty dollar; today’s businesses are expected to participate in corporate citizenship to fulfill its responsibility to contribute financial and human resources to the community to improve the quality of life. Unfortunately, Company Q operates as if their purpose is breathing. Gross profit margins for grocery stores are very low, especially in high crime districts. In order to survive businesses must be able to sell products customers want and be able to promote their store throughout the neighborhood to differentiate themselves from the competition. Company Q attitude toward social responsibility is very poor. A decrease in customer retention has clearly affected store sales because they hesitated offering healthy related foods. Selling high margin organic food products in a poor neighbor shows a lack of common business knowledge. The lack of sensitivity Company Q has towards their customers has forced them to buy from other stores. The absence of top management driving social responsibility has allowed the store workers to become poor corporate citizens. Company Q’s lack of social responsibility...

...Research Paper Adam Pajerski Advanced Logistics BUS 698 Matthew Keogh May 12, 2014 This paper shall discuss the opportunities that exist to improve supply-chain activities; how to better align logistics and the company’s strategic plan, to integrate the supply-chain. In order to improve the movement of goods; identify challenges in integration of suppliers and manufacturers in the logistics management; companies must be willing to adjust their practices to current circumstances affecting supply-chain. Many processes exist on the market today that companies can adopt to increase their values, which affects the supply-chain management on organizational level; and financial implications by reviewing some of the best practices available on the market and improving their own supply-chain management. I have not worked directly in supply chain management for many years however; I spent over 22 years in Logistics on active duty in the United States Air Force and decided to enroll in the MBA program in Organizational Management at Ashford. Furthermore, since there is a lack of experience in a particular supply chain management, this paper will instead break down a theoretical focal company’s strategic management overall and the theories of strategic management of supply chains in particular and how they need to support each other. The three levels of supply-chain that companies used to survive and operate in business are strategic, tactical, and operational. Organization make...

...Attempt Only Four NO. 1 MARKETING SPOTLIGHT- NIKE Nike hit the ground running in 1962. Originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports, the company focused on providing high-quality running shoes designed especially for athletes by athletes. Founder Philip Knight believer that high-tech shoes for runners could be manufactured at competitive prices if imported from abroad. The company’s commitment to designing innovative footwear for serious athletes helped it build a cult following among American consumers. By 1980, Nike had become the number-one athletic shoe company in the United States. From the start, Nike’s marketing campaigns featured winning athletes as spokespeople. The company signed on its first spokesperson, runner Steve Prefontaine, in 1973. Prefontaine’s irreverent attitude matched Nike’s spirit. Marketing campaigns featuring winning athletes made sense. Nike saw a `pyramid of influence’’ – it saw that product and brand choices are influenced by the preferences and behavior of a small percentage of top athletes. Using professional athletes in its advertising campaigns was both efficient and effective for Nike. In 1985, Nike signed up then-rookie guard Michael Jordan as a spokesperson. Jordan was still an up-and-comer, but he personified superior performance. Nike’s bet paid off: The Air Jordan line of basketball shoes flew off the shelves, with revenues of over $100 million in the first year alone. Jordan also helped build the psychological image of the Nike brand...

Supply Chain Management

...developed and continues to evolve with the direct input of industry leaders who manage global supply chains and use it daily to analyze and improve the performance of their organizations. It features an intentionally broad scope and definitions that can be adapted to the specific supply chain requirements of any industry or application. Figure 4 and 5 SCOR model include: • Rapid assessment of supply chain performance • Clear identification of performance gaps • Efficient supply chain network redesign and optimization • Enhanced operational control from standard core processes • Streamlined management reporting and organizational structure • Alignment of supply chain team skills with strategic objectives • A detailed game plan for launching new businesses and products • Systematic supply chain mergers that capture projected savings The SCOR model helps refine strategy, define structure (including human capital), manage processes, and measure performance. Organizations that have applied SCOR to help with supply chain problem solving, process improvement, process redesign, or business process engineering, have demonstrated that SCOR is an effective enabler for aligning an organization’s portfolio of improvement projects with strategic goals and objectives. the SCOR model is to build a superior supply chain that is integrated with the overall organizational strategy. ...Introduction It is possible to overcome this problem, however, with negotiation skills training.   Such training is beyond the scope of this site; however, many good texts on negotiation are available (summaries of several can be found at http://www.colorado.edu/conflict) and a few particularly useful excerpts are summarized in this online training program.  In general, it is useful to know and understand the difference between integrative (or win-win) negotiation strategies and distributive (or win-lose) strategies.  Win-win strategies are most useful when it is possible to develop a solution to a problem in which both (or all) sides win, or at least come out ahead of where they would, were the conflict to continue.  When this is possible, following the rules of principled negotiation is usually the best approach. When the situation is unavoidably win-lose, however, as it often is (at least in part) in intractable conflicts, then principled negotiation is unlikely to work.  In that case, either distributive negotiation (which is much more adversarial) or a needs-based approach (such as analytical problem solving) is more likely to yield success.   Do you feel that someone is continually taking advantage of you? Do you seem to have to fight your corner aggressively, or ally with others, to win the resources you need? Or do you struggle to get what you want from people whose help you need, but over whom you have little direct authority? If so, you may need to brush up your...

Netflix members can instantly watch unlimited films and TV episodes streamed over the internet to more than 700 devices for about $7.99 a month. With regards to increasing the influence of the Netflix brand, expansion into the video game industry could be an option, however various factors such as competitors, viability and sustainability of the company as a whole need to be further analyzed in order to assess whether this proposal is feasible. GameStop should: * Focus efforts on building a larger presence in the European and emerging markets. * Consider varying its product mix, with a larger focus on used items, within its mall stores to drive higher profitability and enhance differentiation in those customers’ settings. * Align with a software developer to establish a presence in the online gaming and social gaming market. * Focus on gaining US market share by establishing more customer loyalty from new purchase to used trade-in or purchase.
