...Jan Lokpal Bill The Jan Lokpal Bill (Citizen's ombudsman Bill) is a draft anti-corruption bill drawn up by prominent civil society activists seeking the appointment of a Jan Lokpal, an independent body that would investigate corruption cases, complete the investigation within a year and envisages trial in the case getting over in the next one year. Drafted by Justice Santosh Hegde (former Supreme Court Judge and present Lokayukta of Karnataka), Prashant Bhushan (Supreme Court Lawyer) and Arvind Kejriwal (RTI activist), the draft Bill envisages a system where a corrupt person found guilty would go to jail within two years of the complaint being made and his ill-gotten wealth being confiscated. It also seeks power to the Jan Lokpal to prosecute politicians and bureaucrats without government permission. Retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi and other known people like Swami Agnivesh, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Anna Hazare and Mallika Sarabhai are also part of the movement, called India Against Corruption. Its website describes the movement as "an expression of collective anger of people of India against corruption. We have all come together to force/request/persuade/pressurize the Government to enact the Jan Lokpal Bill. We feel that if this Bill were enacted it would create an effective deterrence against corruption."Anna Hazare, anti-corruption crusader, began a fast-unto-death today, demanding that this bill, drafted by the civil society, be adopted. The website of the India Against Corruption...

...This is a summary of a paper presented at the 28th Annual Conference of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action in November 1999. This paper was submitted to the peer-reviewed academic journal Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly for consideration. ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬_______________________ Nonprofits’ Use of the Media in the Influence of Public Policy: Is there a correlation between exposure in the media and positive results? DAVID A. RICE STRATEGIC POLICY CONCEPTS Abstract: The extent to which interest groups and the media influence policymakers has been a popular topic of research. However, there has been little research on interest groups’ attempts to use the media for the specific purpose of influencing policymakers. This paper examines the attempts of nonprofit advocates in Massachusetts to use the media to influence public policymaking. The research was conducted through a survey of policymakers, the media, and registered lobbyists for nonprofit and for-profit interest groups in Massachusetts. The results of the survey indicate that the majority of nonprofit advocates do not use the media as a tactic to influence policymakers primarily because they do not believe policymakers are very influenced by the media. The results also found that policymakers would view nonprofit advocates as being more influential if they frequently obtained media coverage of the issues important to them. The paper posits that...

...The Lokpal Bill, 2011, also referred to as The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill, 2011, is a proposed anti-corruption law in India which "seeks to provide for the establishment of the institution of Lokpal to inquire into allegations of corruption against certain public functionaries and for matters connecting them". The bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha on 22 December 2011 and was passed by the house on 27 December 2011 as The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill, 2011. The bill was subsequently tabled in the Rajya Sabha on 29 December 2011. After a marathon debate that stretched until midnight of the following day, the vote failed to take place for lack of time.[11] On 21 May 2012, the bill was referred to a Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha for consideration. The bill was introduced in parliament following massive public protests led by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and his associates.[12] The bill is one of the most widely discussed and debated bills in India, both by the media and the People of India at large, in recent times.[13] The protests were named among the "Top 10 News Stories of 2011" by the magazine Time.[14][15] The bill received worldwide media coverage.[16][17][18] Corruption is an emotional issue in India, where at least 12 whistle-blowers were killed and 40 assaulted after seeking information under a new Right to Information Act aimed at exposing local graft, according to data compiled by Bloomberg L.P. from January 2010 through mid-October 2011. After few minutes, he pointed at one dish on the menu and indefinitely said “Maybe, they ordered these. We can ask the waiter.” Finally, I ordered the one which was the same as the next table’s dishes. While we were waited for our dishes, we were talking about some interested things and laughing. After about half an hour, here came my food which is steak, salad and soup. I tasted the dishes and found the food were very delicious. I ate the meal very fast and finished it very quickly. I wiped my napkin across my mouth, and belched loudly. After we finished the meals, we needed to wait for the waiter to pay the bill. When we got the bill, we started talking about how much tips we needed to pay. Finally, we just paid a ten percent service charge because in my mind, I thought it was enough. Then we walked out of the restaurant. Guests’ perspective Today, I had a meal in a restaurant which my classmate recommended with my girlfriend. My...

...Discuss the importance of data accuracy. Inaccurate data leads to inaccurate information. What can be some of the consequences of data inaccuracy? What can be done to ensure data accuracy? Data accuracy is important because inaccurate data leads may lead to such things as the closing down of business, it may also lead to the loosing of jobs, and it may also lead to the failure of a new product. To ensure that one’s data is accurate one may double check the data given to them, as well as has more than one person researching the data they are researching. ...What is RH bill? Answer: The RH Bill is controversial because the Catholic Church is vehemently opposed to any legalization of birth control or discussion of family planning. The opponents of the bill have spread a large number of myths and tried to make people afraid that the bill would make abortion legal and cause immoral behavior. I enclose a link sponsored by the bill's supporters, who believe that women in the Philippines deserve control over their own bodies, and should have the right to practice family planning or obtain birth control. Those who are opposed to the bill claim the following: 1. Sec. 17 of RH Bill could mean - Employers must provide employees free ligation/ vasectomy, condoms, pills, breast cancer treatments and information on contraceptives otherwise they are put to jail or fined or both. They also claim this bill will lead to abortion on demand, and that even criticizing the bill could result in fines or penalties. In their view, the RH Bill would thus diminish religious freedom. That is why the Catholic Church has delayed this bill from even coming to a vote for nearly a decade. RH bill now a law, Palace confirms (UPDATED Dec. 29, 11: 04 a.m.) The Philippines now has a Reproductive Health (RH) law as the highly controversial measure bagged President Benigno Aquino III's approval, the Palace confirmed Saturday. ...Frank Bassetti It was a warm summer evening as I drove home from work. I was taking in the beautiful Alaskan scenery and thinking of how far that I had come with my life. Feelings of thankfulness ran through my thoughts as I remembered all of the help that I had received during hard times. Those times seemed to be so very long ago, but yet so vivid in my memory. The ability to lift my head up gave me a different perspective on life. It was that much easier to relax and focus while taking in the beauty around me. Driving home that day I can remember that there were a few puffy clouds in the sky that they reminded me of cotton balls. There was a gentle wind off of the Pacific Ocean that carried the smell of a fisherman’s hard day at sea. Along with that breeze came the reminder of winter from the chill that followed. Off in the distance I could see a Subway sign. Instantly, I had a vision of freshly baked, warm, fluffy, honey wheat bread topped with crisp, juicy vegetables and partially heated moist, tender chicken teriyaki. Since my taste buds had been awakened, I had no choice but to pull in and eat. I walked in and right away I noticed that there was a little boy up against the ordering glass. The little guy was rocking from foot to foot in a sideways motion with great enthusiasm. He had on some frayed Wrangler jeans, and a tee-shirt that was too small for his quickly growing body. His oily head of hair was reflecting the incandescent lights above, and his eyes were slightly...
